Kasabian star designs elephant for hospice trail
Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno has designed one of 40 giant elephants that will form an art trail in the band's home city of Leicester.
Stomp Round Leicester, which supports LOROS Hospice, is due to run from 14 July to 21 September and will be the biggest public art event the city has ever seen, organisers say.
Pizzorno is an artist under the name Daft-apeth when he's not singing with the indie favourites and his design will be kept secret until the trail begins.
He visited the charity to meet staff and patients and said the LOROS team "make the most difficult part of your life as easy as possible. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen".
"When I visited LOROS I found it simply breathtaking," he said.
"From the receptionists to the physios to the healthcare assistants, everyone works to make families feel cared for and loved.
"I've had family members cared for at LOROS and my elephant is a way to say thank you to everyone who works there for helping so many families like mine over the years."
LOROS has worked with Wild in Art to create the trail for its 40th anniversary.
At the end of the 10-week trail, the 40 Elephant sculptures will be auctioned with proceeds going to the hospice.
Clare Bloomfield, from LOROS, said: "Our 5ft elephants are probably one of the bigger canvases Serge has designed.
"His art is quirky and fun, and we can't wait to see where his imagination has taken him.
"We're also hoping Serge's involvement will open up the trail to lots of people who show their support and make a donation to LOROS Hospice.
"Serge really cares about all things Leicester and LOROS is a big part of that."

Kelsey Parker shares tragic loss of third child
Kelsey Parker has announced the loss of her third child, a baby boy she was expecting with partner Will Lindsay. The podcast host and widow of The Wanted's Tom Parker shared in an Instagram post on Sunday that her first child with Lindsay was "born sleeping". "Phoenix Parker-Lindsay, you will forever be loved," Kelsey wrote, alongside a touching poem titled For Phoenix, Born Sleeping, Forever Loved. "The world grew quiet as you arrived / So loved, so longed for, yet not alive / Our precious boy, our angel light / Born with wings, took silent flight," the poem read. Kelsey later posted a note on her Instagram Stories, signed by herself, Lindsay and her family. "Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt well wishes, I want to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share," she wrote. "But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news." The loss of Phoenix comes more than three years after Tom died at age 33 in March 2022, following a diagnosis of stage four glioblastoma. The Mum's the Word podcast host and her late husband welcomed two children together, who are now aged four and five.

Why Danny Boyle shot ‘28 Years Later' on iPhones
Director Danny Boyle famously shot his post-apocalyptic classic '28 Days Later' on Canon digital cameras, making it easier for him to capture eerie scenes of an abandoned London, and giving the movie's fast-moving zombies a terrifying immediacy. To make his decades-later sequel '28 Years Later' (which opened this weekend), Boyle turned to a different piece of consumer tech — the iPhone. Boyle told Wired that by using a rig that could hold 20 iPhone Pro Max cameras, the filmmaking team created 'basically a poor man's bullet time,' capturing the brutal action scenes from a variety of angles. Even when he wasn't using the rig, Boyle (who once directed a biopic of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs) said the iPhone was the movie's 'principal camera,' albeit after disabling settings like automatic focus and adding special accessories. 'Filming with iPhones allowed us to move without huge amounts of equipment,' Boyle said, adding that the team was 'able to move quickly and lightly to areas of the countryside that we wanted to retain their lack of human imprint.'
