Central Cee to add UK flavour to the Hey Neighbour music festival

The Hey Neighbour music festival has added UK Rapper Central Cee to the lineup. The skilled lyricist from Shepherd's Bush, London, England, will join a roster of performers, brimming with talent.
The UK might arguably be one of the best places for hip hop. Both streams, grime and drill, appear to be more enterprising than the output of nations like America at present.
Fans of real rap music found this staggered announcement to be a relief, as someone like Doja Cat is perhaps more of a hip-hop artist than apure rap.
Central Cee, or Cench as he is lovingly known by his fans, will take to the stage on Saturday, August 30. He will dispense an array of his global rap hits, which include songs like Sprinter, Doja and Obsessed with You.
His charismatic and choppy delivery works well on his albums. Hopefully, this translates well to his stage presence and approach to performance.
Hey Neighbour has made a string of announcements over the last couple of days. Along with Central Cee, American R&B sensation Leon Thomas will be on hand with the musings of his impeccable magnum opus, Mutt.
Fans are already salivating at the prospect of seeing the New York native dispense the lead and title single from that album.
Hey Neighbour also announced that they are condensing their offering to two days instead of three.
'We're switching from a three-day festival to two jam-packed days, meaning the festival dates will be 30-31 August 2025. Yes, we're still bringing awesomeness to the hood,' they said via an Instagram post.
They have also provided assurances that the festival will still be a world-class affair. All current ticket holders have been notified of this change by email.
The first Hey Neighbour Festival was held two years ago. A string of local and international talents thrilled the crowd. Acts like Tyla, Swedish House Mafia and Kendrick Lamar delivered performances of a high level.
This sophomore offering by the same organisers will have to go far and above what fans saw at the first iteration. Not to mention the unfortunate debacle involving exorbitant Uber fares at the end of each day.
Hey Neighbour will be held at the Legends Adventure Farm in Pretoria in August of this year.

Coco Gauff fights past Madison Keys to book French Open semi-final spot

Coco through to the semis US Coco Gauff celebrates after winning her women's singles quarter-final match against US Madison Keys on day 11 of the French Open tennis tournament on Court Philippe-Chatrier at the Roland-Garros Complex in Paris on Wednesday. Photo: Dimitar Dilkoff/AFP Image: Dimitar Dilkoff/AFP Coco Gauff battled back from a set down to beat Australian Open champion Madison Keys in an error-strewn quarter-final at Roland Garros on Wednesday. The second seed battled past her fellow American 6-7 (6/8), 6-4, 6-1 in a tense last-eight clash littered with a whopping 14 double-faults and 101 unforced errors. Gauff will face the winner of the last quarter-final between Mirra Andreeva and world number 361 Lois Boisson for a place in her second French Open final on Thursday. "It means a lot, especially getting through this tough match today, it wasn't an easy match and I'm very happy to get through it," she said. Keys came through a tense first set in a tie-break after blowing a 4-1 lead with a double-break, but Gauff upped her level enough to fight back. The 21-year-old was the runner-up to Iga Swiatek in a one-sided showpiece match in 2022. Keys had been hoping to challenge for a second consecutive Grand Slam title, but failed to reach the semi-finals in Paris for a second time. Gauff will be hoping to go at least one better than last year when she was beaten by Swiatek in the last four. Both players seemed to struggle with nerves early on with six breaks of serve in total in the first set. They also made 10 double-faults between them in the opener, while an off-colour Keys made 28 unforced errors and Gauff, who missed a set point in the 10th game, 21. However, it was the seventh seed who finally fell over the line and into a one-set lead when Gauff followed her seventh double-fault by sending a wild return sailing wide of even the tramlines. Gauff improved slightly to take a 4-1 lead herself with a double-break in the second set, only to gift Keys a way back into it with a sloppy service game finished off by another double-fault. Keys made it three successive games with a forehand winner to level at 4-4, but then gave up the 11th break of the match. Gauff served it out to force a decider as her opponent dumped a backhand into the net. The 2023 US Open champion found some consistency in the third set, which was enough to ease to a victory sealed with a break to love when Keys blazed a forehand long. AFP

Eminem takes on Meta in R2 billion copyright lawsuit

Eminem's publishing company, Eight Mile Style, filed a lawsuit accusing Meta of unlawfully using 243 of his songs without permission. Picture: Bang Showbiz American rap icon Eminem is taking Meta Platforms, owners of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to court in a massive copyright battle that could cost the tech giant over R2 billion. Eminem's publishing company, Eight Mile Style, filed a lawsuit accusing Meta of unlawfully using 243 of his songs without permission. According to court papers dated May 30 and seen by E! News, the rapper (real name Marshall Mathers) alleges that Meta allowed the 'unauthorised storage, reproduction and exploitation' of his music across its platforms. The lawsuit specifically points fingers at features like Reels and Original Audio, claiming these tools encourage users to use music including Eminem's without proper licensing or credit. Now, the multi-Grammy Award-winner is demanding financial compensation for what he calls the theft of his creative work. He's asking for either lost profits and damages from Meta's earnings or the maximum statutory damages of $150,000 (about R2.1 million) for each track, which adds up to more than $109 million (around R2.05 billion).

Alcaraz inspired by rival Sinner for ruthless Roland Garros win

Defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz drew inspiration from his main rival and world number one Jannik Sinner to race past Tommy Paul in 94 minutes and reach the Roland Garros semifinals on Tuesday. Alcaraz gave a masterclass in attacking tennis to win the opening two sets in under an hour and overwhelmed the American 12th seed for a 6-0 6-1 6-4 win and a meeting with Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The Spanish second seed's ruthless display came a day after Sinner beat Andrey Rublev in three sets to continue his devastating form at the year's second Grand Slam. 'I love to watch matches on my days off, and yeah, let's say he inspires me in some way just to give my 100% in every match,' Alcaraz told reporters. 'He sees how important it is to play at such a great level in the whole match, just to have more time to recover after the match. So I'm just trying to do it as well. "I could close my eyes and everything went in." 😁 Alcaraz's on-court interview following his win over Paul 🎤 #RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 3, 2025 'But for me, it's great to have tennis. I love Grand Slams for that because on my days off, I have great matches to watch and get inspired by watching them.' Alcaraz beat Musetti in the Monte Carlo final and the Rome semifinal en route to the title but expected a tough test when they face off again in Paris. 'It's going to be a beautiful battle, a beautiful match,' Alcaraz added. 'I think we're both playing great tennis. Monte Carlo final, semis in Rome, so it's going to be great for the people to watch as well. I have to be ready for that match.' Alcaraz continued his title defence with a display of breathtaking brutality. The second seed has searched in vain for his usual sublime form on Parisian clay this year, needing four sets in his last three matches to dismiss determined opponents, but he had no trouble on a balmy evening on Court Philippe Chatrier. What an amazing day of tennis, check out the best moments presented by @emirates ✈️ #RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 3, 2025 'It was like I could close my eyes and everything went in,' Alcaraz said in his on-court interview. 'My feeling was unbelievable, I tried to hit my shots at 100% — today was just one of those matches where everything went in. 'We were in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and these matches aren't easy. I've lost to him twice and against Tommy, matches are very difficult. That helped me focus on my tennis and try not to go down or let him get into the match.' The Spaniard motored through the opening set without dropping a game and grabbed his fourth break early in the second set after sparing Paul the ignominy of another bagel and the 22-year-old pulled further away to double his lead in only 53 minutes. He glided across the red clay while delivering punishing shots, knocking the racket out of Paul's hands at one point with a thunderous effort, before finally facing some resistance in the third set. Former junior French Open champion Paul stayed level with Alcaraz until 4-4 but soon faded away and the holder closed out the victory.
