Raksha Bandhan 2025: Why Is This Year Different?
On 9th August 2025, Raksha Bandhan will be graced by a truly rare combination in the zodiac—Saubhagya Yog and Sarvartha Siddhi Yog, both aligning during the auspicious period known as the Sharavan Nakshatra. Such a blend is seen once in a lifetime, with the last occurrence nearly a century ago.
Saubhagya Yog is an alignment that is said to bring prosperity, luck, and well-being. In the context of family and relationships, it means that the actions performed under this yoga are blessed with extra positive energy.
Sarvartha Siddhi Yog is even more powerful, believed to help fulfil all righteous desires. 'Sarva-artha' means 'all purposes' and 'Siddhi' means 'success'. This yoga is considered the ultimate time to start anything important, as obstacles melt away and the path is cleared for growth.
Add to this the influence of Sharavan Nakshatra, one of the most auspicious lunar mansions, known for nurturing relationships, deepening faith, and increasing spiritual power.

On CM's directive, JDA launches Dravyavati rejuvenation project
Jaipur: Following a directive from Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has once again launched a rejuvenation project for the Dravyavati River. This time, the project focuses on the banks of the entire stretch of the river flowing through Jaipur. The project involves planting exotic trees and restoring walking and jogging tracks. Speaking to TOI, Monali Sen, divisional forest officer (JDA), stated that the project was undertaken following a recent directive from the Chief Minister's Office. "The state govt is committed to further developing the banks of the Dravyavati River with both environmental conservation and aesthetic perspectives," Sen said. Residents had long complained that the banks were neglected by the previous govt, despite real estate prices in the area appreciating since then CM Vasundhara Raje's 'Dravyavati Project', which was inaugurated just before the assembly polls of 2018. "Knowing that the river and its banks would undergo an aesthetic and environmental rejuvenation, I decided to buy a property adjacent to the river at a very high rate in 2018. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Everything was fine for the first two years. Later, the situation deteriorated. Hopefully, the fresh initiative will bring back life to this project," said Satish Chand Jain, a Pratap Nagar resident. Officials of JDA's horticulture department stated that altogether the civic body would plant 2,593 plants of at least eight species at a cost of Rs 1 crore 9 lakh. "The species include a few costly plants like Sahtoot (Mulberry), Kachnar, Amaltash, and Karanj. A few of them have medicinal values as well," said an official of JDA's horticulture wing. For role in Op Sindoor, Goan woman earns despatch after leaving corp job for IAF career
Panaji: In the heat of May, Poma Braganca Pereira and Eustaquio Pereira were watching Operation Sindoor unfold over north India's skies while sitting at their cosy home at Porvorim. The couple offered a silent prayer for the men in uniform, particularly the aviators tasked with defending the country from drones, enemy fighters, and surface-to-air missiles. What they did not know was that their daughter, wing commander Maria Ismenia Sancha Pereira, was also awake that night, keeping a close watch on Indian fighter jets. The only woman in her mechanical engineering batch, Pereira chose an uncertain path over a secure career at Godrej, answering the call of duty by joining the Indian Air Force . Her determination paid off, with the 44-year-old mother of two becoming the first Goan woman to earn a mention-in-despatch for her crucial role as an air traffic controller in Operation Sindoor. 'We were watching the news during Operation Sindoor, but we did not know that she was involved. We came to know on Aug 16 when her name was announced, and she sent us a WhatsApp message. When we found out, we were very happy. Her dedication and hard work paid off,' said Poma. Being mentioned in despatches means a member of the armed forces has been recognised in an official report (a dispatch) for acts of bravery or distinguished service in a combat zone, but not to the extent that would warrant a specific gallantry medal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? As a child, Maria excelled in her studies, standing first in her HSSC boards in her school. Known to be hardworking, Maria had one aim — to excel in whatever she did. 'She was a mechanical engineer, the only girl in her batch. Because of her marks, she got selected by Godrej during a campus interview at Farmagudi, but after working for a few months, she decided to apply to join the Indian Air Force,' said Poma. Born to a career educationist and professional footballer, Maria is the first in her family to join the armed forces. She is married to a fellow air warrior, a wing commander from Guwahati, with whom she has two sons. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). GMC renews drive, pushes for household waste segregation
1 2 Guwahati: As part of its flagship programme 'Mur Guwahati Sikun Guwahati', the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a brand-new drive to address the city's persistent waste management challenges. The initiative focuses on transforming household waste practices and strengthening civic engagement across the city. Over the past few days, GMC teams have visited wards 1, 2, 3, 17, 32, 33, and 38, engaging directly with residents, school authorities, and students to emphasise the importance of waste segregation at the source. "The initiative places responsibility on citizens to hand over segregated waste directly from their homes to garbage collectors. If NGOs collect waste in segregated form, it eliminates the need for additional sorting later. To streamline the process, the civic body has introduced a revised collection schedule — sanitary, wet and hazardous waste will be picked up daily, while dry waste will be collected twice a week," said Gitanjali Pathak, assistant commissioner of GMC. Pathak said the drive will continue till the people fully embrace this practice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo She also said efforts are underway to promote home composting, especially for households with rooftop gardens. To ensure accountability and improve the effectiveness of cleanliness drives in every ward, GMC has set up ward-level Swachchta Monitoring Committees. Each committee will be chaired by the respective ward councillor, with the assistant commissioner-cum-executive officer serving as member secretary. "The committees also include Assam administrative service officials and representatives of local residents from different age groups to make the committees more participatory and inclusive," the GMC official said. The official added that this mechanism is not just about monitoring, it's about building stronger community engagement. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
