Emmerdale's Laura Norton felt she was "outing" her children by going public with their Usher Syndrome before they know about it.
The 41-year-old actress and her fiance Mark Jordon - who have spoken openly about how their son Jesse, four, and daughter, Ronnie, two, were born deaf and risk losing their eyesight when they are "around 15" because of the genetic condition - felt they had to talk publicly about it to raise awareness and to "make a difference" by getting people to donate to the Cure Usher Syndrome charity.
In an interview with Best magazine, she explained: "It's a genetic condition which causes hearing and vision loss.
"Going public was a tough decision because obviously we're kind of outing the children before they know.
"But we realised we could never make a difference unless we actively did something. Mark and I are now board members, trustees and patrons of the charity.
"In the beginning, it was about our babies. And then you meet other families going through the same thing and it becomes about everyone else.

"It's such a rare condition and so many people have never heard of it and this community deserves to have people fighting for them and helping raise funds."
Laura admitted she has more "purpose" in life because of Jesse and Ronnie's Usher Syndrome.
The star - who plays Kerry Wyatt on Emmerdale and met Mark on the ITV1 soap when the 60-year-old actor played Daz Spencer - said: "It's a life mission for me and Mark.
"We've both got a job that we love and we feel very lucky to have that, but when something like this comes along and pulls the rug from under your feet, you question it - 'How is this our life?'
"But weirdly we both think it was meant to be. I've never felt more purpose in my life."
And Laura is glad that he "whole world revolves" around Jesse and Ronnie.

Asked what difference her and Mark's children have made to Laura's life, she said: "I went and got my nails done the other day and I said to Mark - 'That's the first time in four and a half years!'
"I enjoyed it and I didn't feel guilty about it, but I love the thought that I know I'm driving back home to them.
"My whole world revolves around them and that's how it should be."

Leonardo DiCaprio reveals 'biggest regret' from his career in honest admission
Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed the 'biggest regret' he has from his career in an honest admission. The Academy Award winner, 50, has starred in some of Hollywood's biggest hits, from Titanic to The Wolf Of Wall Street - but there's one job he regrets turning down. Speaking to Variety, Leo revealed that the movie he had to back out of was Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights. Leo had to pass on starring in the 1997 film because he was already signed on to play Jack Dawson in Titanic. Instead, Mark Wahlberg took on the role of Eddie Adams in Boogie Nights - which was nominated for three Oscars and deemed one of the best films of all time by Variety. Meanwhile Titanic was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won 11. Leo said: 'I'll say it even though you're here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights, it was a profound movie of my generation. 'I can't imagine anyone but Mark in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece.' The actor told GQ in 2008 that he wished he could have done both films but was forced to choose. It comes after Leo hinted he has finally settled down with his model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti in a new interview, after making some changes in his life since entering his fifties. The star, known for his lothario lifestyle, has always hit headlines with his relationships with model women all under the age of 25. Ever since he burst onto the big screen in the early 1990s, Leonardo has dated a never-ending conveyor belt of glamorous models and actresses, including Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen and Bar Refaeli. Vittoria has seemingly broke Leo's rule of strictly dating women under the age of 25, as the pair's relationship continues to blossom. In a rare new interview with Esquire UK, Leonardo declared he is living by the new rules of always being 'honest' and more 'upfront' because he has 'no time to waste' at his age - which has been inspired by his beloved mother Irmelin Indenbirken, 82. Leo reflected on how there is 'much more life behind him now' than there is ahead of him as he discussed is expectations for the coming decades. Speaking in the unfiltered interview, Leo said: 'Turning 50 creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time. 'I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress. 'I look at my mother, for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.' Before Vittoria, he famously split from Camila Morrone after five years together in 2022, just a month after she turned 25. Detailing the importance of saying exactly how you feel, he explained: 'Being more upfront and risking having things fall apart or risking the disagreements or risking going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life. 'The personal, the professional — it's that you don't want to waste your time any more. 'You have to just be much more upfront. It's almost a responsibility, because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you.' Leo famously dated model Gisele for five years starting when she was 18, to a five-year romance with Bar Refaeli that ended when she turned 25. The Hollywood star had also been linked to model Gigi after they fuelled romance speculation in September 2022. He was first linked to the model just weeks after his split from then-girlfriend Camila Morrone. But rumours were quickly squashed in February 2023, as a source told 'Leo is very single right now and he is not keen on the hype suggesting that he is seeking out these very young women.'

'Megan is such a wonderful and clever writer, and with Michelle Keegan in the lead and Nicola Shindler at the helm, this is going to be an unmissable drama and one I'm very proud to have on ITV.' The show has been written and executively produced by the woman behind Her Fault and Wolf Megan Gallagher. Mary said: 'The Blame is such an important and urgent story to tell; I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring Charlotte Langley's world and characters to life on screen. 'It's my second collaboration with Quay Street Productions, and it's great to be working with the team again - I'm truly in the best hands.' While the executive producer for Quay Street Productions, Nicola Schindler and Richard Fee, said: 'We are so delighted to be working with Megan again. 'She is an exceptional writer who has written a compelling series taking viewers on a twisty journey to discover what really happened through the lens of a contemporary police station brimming with secrets, corruption, and betrayal. 'We are also thrilled at the brilliant cast led by Michelle and Douglas, who will keep viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering who to trust at a time when the themes explored in The Blame are more relevant than ever.' This is one of Michelle's first roles since welcoming her daughter Palma, who she shares with husband Mark Wright, into the world. The former Corrie star gave birth to her baby girl back in March this year. They announced the happy news that they were expecting back in December 2024. The last TV show that she starred in was Netflix's Fool Me Once, where she played Maya Stern in the drama. That was back in 2024. She's also still playing the roles of Kate Thorne in Ten Pound Poms and Erin Croft in Brassic.
