Orange County Jail inmate, arrested after years in hiding, dies
Sources at the Orange County jail have confirmed that an inmate died in custody Friday.
The sources said 42-year-old Julian Nunez-Aranzamandi was found at 8:49 p.m. in his cell.
Deputies attempted to treat him, but he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, they said.
The sources did not specify how Aranzamandi died or what evidence was found in his cell, if anything.
Nunez-Aranzamandi was arrested April 10 and charged with molesting two children from 2016 to 2019 when they were as young as six years old.
Law enforcement spent nearly 2,000 days searching for him.
Court records show a judge denied him bond hours before his death Friday.
In the docket notes, Leticia Marques wrote that Aranzamandi was a danger to the community and noted he had previously been deported for being in the country illegally.
This was the second death at the jail in less than a year. In July, 37-year-old-old Jean Caleb Joseph died two days after his arrest.
Before Joseph's death, guards described him as acting 'erratically' and suffering from possible mental health episodes. They said they had been trying to move him to an observation cell.

Off-duty police officer shoots, kills murder suspect in Fontana
An off-duty police officer shot and killed a man who was alleged to have slain two people in Fontana on Saturday night, according to authorities. In a statement, the Fontana Police Department said officers responded to the Falcon Ridge Town Center shopping area at about 9:40 p.m. after it was reported that shots were fired. Two people, a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, were shot. An off-duty law enforcement officer witnessed the shooting, police said, and shot the suspect. The suspect, identified only as a 45-year-old man as of Sunday morning, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two victims, who also remain unidentified as of Sunday morning, were pronounced dead at a local hospital. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing. As of Sunday morning, it was not yet clear if the suspect and victims knew each other or what led up to that initial shooting. It's also unclear how the officer-involved shooting occurred, or if the suspect fired shots at the officer first. No additional details were immediately made available. Fontana PD did not indicate whether the off-duty officer was a member of their department or another agency, or if they were at all injured during the incident.

Giants pitcher Sean Hjelle accused of abuse by wife, MLB investigating
The San Francisco Giants said Major League Baseball is looking into allegations of abuse made by the wife of reliever Sean Hjelle. Caroline Hjelle made a post on TikTok on Friday of her with the couple's two children with a caption that said: "When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after this (video was taken) once I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I've been raising two boys alone." Hjelle said after Saturday's game that he had no comment on the allegations, adding that he and his wife are in the process of finalizing their divorce. "I feel confident in saying that I will have one eventually," he said. "I don't have an exact timeline on that. But I would like to actually meet with the people that are handling the situation with me and for me before I actually make an official statement." The Giants said in a statement Saturday that they are "aware of these serious allegations" and that MLB is handling it. Manager Bob Melvin said before Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox that Hjelle would be available to pitch. "Obviously we're aware of it," Melvin said. "He told me about it last night. We talked to MLB. At this point, it's in their jurisdiction right now so I really can't comment on it further." Hjelle took the loss in Friday night's game against the Red Sox, allowing a tiebreaking homer to Ceddanne Rafaela in the sixth inning. 1 woman killed, 9 other people wounded in shooting at Juneteenth celebration in South Carolina
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — One woman was killed and at least nine others were wounded during a shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in South Carolina, authorities said. More than 100 law enforcement officers and rescue workers responded Saturday night to the outdoor event in Anderson, South Carolina, according to the sheriff's office. No arrests had been reported by Sunday afternoon. Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb, 35, died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the county coroner's office. Nine others were taken to area hospitals, two with severe injuries. Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S. following the American Civil War. Similar events hosted in Anderson over the past five years have occurred without major incident, officials said. Investigators don't believe the shooting was politically motivated. Several hundred people had gathered throughout the day on Saturday to celebrate, Anderson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Shale Remien said. Later that night, a group of people began fighting in the parking lot, and that escalated into the shooting, officials said. Detectives are continuing to investigate, officials said.
