The Sun01-05-2025

However, the programme was later revived by 5 for a second run this year.
The format required contestants to use their language skills, lateral thinking, visual intelligence and memory to solve various mind boggling puzzles.
Channel 5 is set to launch a new weekly series, Celebrity Puzzling - with Jeremy Vine taking over as host.
It will see the longtime Eggheads quizmaster putting famous faces through mind-bending puzzles.
Actress Sally Lindsay and Countdown legend Carol Vorderman have signed up as team captains.
Each week, the pair will welcome a new celebrity guest to their teams.
Viewers will also see the likes of Sam Quek, Rav Wilding, John Thomson and Dr Ranj Singh, to name just a few.
Discussing his new role, host Jeremy said: "It's amazing to do a quiz that's so simple and yet feels so fresh in every way.
"Celebrity Puzzling is one of those shows where, from the very first edition, everything fell into place with our amazing 5 team, with Carol and with Sally, and we just had the greatest fun in the studio.
Jeremy Vine vanishes from Channel 5 show in hosting shake up - and fans have the same thing to say about his replacement Channel 5
"Not to mention burning through quite a few brain cells as we all tried to solve those beastly puzzles!"
Sally Lindsay added: 'I was honestly a bit nervous about this challenge as I'm more your general knowledge type but even though it was really competitive at times I surprised myself on some rounds! If you love a puzzle you will love this!'
While Carol Vorderman said: 'I'm so excited to be a team captain on Celebrity Puzzling.
"Finally, all those years of loving numbers, words and brainteasers are about to pay off! Well, I hope that they are.
"Joining forces with my brilliant and really good mate Sally Lindsay, and with the ever-clever Jeremy Vine keeping us all in line, it's going to be a battle of brains… and I'm going to be fighting all the way, of course!'
Hardest Quiz Show Questions
Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
The Chase - The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.
Federico Ruiz, Commissioning Editor, Unscripted, 5 remarked: 'It's a great thrill bringing together Jeremy and Sally, two much-loved stars of the 5 family, but from polar opposite ends of the schedule.
"When we signed Carol, we knew it was going to be something really special. It's fun, warm and a joy to play along.
"And in case you're wondering if quiz queen Carol has still got it… she most definitely has!'
The series will be available to watch and stream on 5 this year.

Watch the moment Stephen Mulhern is left red-faced as he makes HUGE blunder on Catchphrase puzzle

STEPHEN Mulhern made the ultimate slip-up during the latest episode of Celebrity Catchphrase. The TV host was seen on Saturday in the latest episode of the gameshow favourite, joined by Jeremy Vine, Charlie Hedges and comedian Luke Kempner. 6 6 As the group got to grips with the latest game – which shows famous sayings turned into cartoons for contestants to guess – Stephen found himself slipping up. Encouraging the gang to make a guess, the encouragement resulted in him accidentally spilling the answer himself. As the clip showed a man going into a coffee shop with rapidly increasing price tags until they burst through the ceiling, Stephen declared: "Literally, the prices have gone through the roof!" The contestants then stood in silence for a second as an embarrassed Stephen clocked what he had said. Jeremy Vine eventually broke the silence, pressing his buzzer and asking: "Sorry, what? Was that the answer?" Stephen then embarrassingly nodded and burst into fits of laughter alongside the cast and studio audience. "I have never in my life done that. In 10 years!" he admitted. Luke Kempner then joked: "I was just thinking 'this is a very tricky one, if it's not that!" before declaring Stephen had won himself £200. "We've got a bit of Catchphrase history here!" added Jeremy, poking fun and adding: "Roy Walker never did that." Stephen was soon crying with laughter before eventually regaining his composure and continuing with the game. Watch as three celebs fail to work out popular Catchphrase - but would you have got it on first try? Hopefully Stephen has learned his lesson - considering the show has already been given the go-ahead for an 11th series. If the three celebrities can 'say what they see' they could get the chance to win £50,000 for their chosen charity. ITV commissioner Gemma John-Lewis said: "We're delighted to announce a further series of the much loved family favourite, Celebrity Catchphrase. "The only show where you say what you see, the hugely popular series continues to win legions of fans and with Stephen's infectious and playful humour it's a firm favourite with our viewers." It is good news for the star after his other ITV programme, In For A Penny, was shelved after six years. 6 6 6

Paddy McGuinness reveals his unexpected celeb crush 'he wasn't supposed to have'

Celebrity Gogglebox is back for another year – and Paddy McGuinness has already used the show to confess to a surprise celebrity crush. The Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy star, 51, is sitting alongside fellow Boltonian and BBC Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay for the new run of episodes. Paddy and Vernon's involvement in the new series of the TV reaction reality show was announced just hours before its returned on Friday, June 6. And in that first episode of the new series, Paddy confessed to an unexpected celebrity crush that he says he wasn't supposed to have. The pair were watching clips of Countdown together when co-presenter Rachel Riley appeared on the screen to deliver one of the quiz show's numeracy rounds. At that point, Paddy spoke up: 'There's something about Rachel Riley. I don't know what it is. You know when you have, like, a celebrity crush that you're not supposed to have?' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Joking about Paddy's comment, Vernon remarked that '[Rachel] is a [Manchester] United fan,' referencing the fact that Paddy and Vernon both support fellow Lancashire side Bolton Wanderers. 'Oh, I've gone right off her!', Paddy immediately shot back, jokingly deciding that Rachel's choice of football team was enough to kill his crush stone dead. Paddy was married to ex-wife Christine McGuinness (née Martin) between 2011 and 2024 – the couple had three children, including two twins, together across 13 years. In 2022, it was announced that the couple had separated, but they would continue living in their family home together with 10-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, and seven-year-old Felicity. The couple's divorce was finalised in 2024, but they still live in the same house in order to make things easier for their children, who are all autistic. On Loose Women, Christine explained to panellist Coleen Nolan that she and Paddy's living arrangements were 'the same as always' and that they still spend Christmas together. 'I don't want the children going to different houses,' she said. 'And you know when they come home from school, they struggle with change anyway.' In a new interview, Christine admitted that the divorce has been expensive, but she's determined to be able to say: 'I paid for my own divorce.' During an appearance on The Shizzio Show podcast, she said: 'There was times where it was fine and really civil, and we were agreeing on what we wanted and what we were going. More Trending 'Then there was times where it felt like we were starting all the way back at the beginning. It's the biggest bill I have ever paid in my life, and I will say that I paid for my own divorce, nobody else.' Celebrity Gogglebox is back for its seventh season, with the first new episode available to watch on Channel 4 – each Celebrity Gogglebox season so far has had six episodes. The first season of Celebrity Gogglebox premiered in 2019, and the show has run annually in June ever since, featuring famous faces from the world of showbiz and TV. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's furious row that 'ripped the monarchy to pieces'

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were said to have had a furious row during a clear-the-air meeting in 2018 A Royal expert has described a crucial meeting between Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate and Meghan as an event that "ripped the monarchy to pieces". The explosive encounter reportedly took place in June 2018 when the Prince and Princess of Wales sat down with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex amid rising tensions after Harry and Meghan's wedding. The situation escalated post-ceremony, as recounted in Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare', who cited early turbulence involving his wife and his sister-in-law. He detailed a dispute concerning bridesmaid dresses prior to his wedding which purportedly left Meghan in tears, mentioning that Kate "grimaced" when Meghan used her lip gloss. ‌ In an effort to resolve matters, both couples convened for a candid discussion after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon. The atmosphere during the chat reportedly grew so fraught that it caused physical signs of distress in the Princess of Wales. ‌ According to Harry's depiction in 'Spare', the intense air-clearing session at Kensington Palace saw Kate demand an apology from Meghan while clenching a leather sofa, which saw her "fingers turn white". Harry detailed in 'Spare' that Kate's request stemmed from a comment Meghan made about her pregnancy hormones, referring to it as "baby brain". Meghan apparently offered her apologies, justifying the contentious remark as commonplace amongst her circle of friends, reports the Mirror. The situation escalated when Harry alleged that William "pointed a finger at Meg", and reportedly admonished: "Well, it's rude, Meghan. These things are not done here." Harry claims Meghan retorted: "If you don't mind, keep your finger out of my face." ‌ In the new Channel 5 documentary 'Meghan vs Kate: The Meeting That Changed the Monarchy', Royal commentators suggest this encounter was pivotal for the Sussexes, setting in motion their eventual departure from Royal duties. Richard Kay of the Daily Mail posited that this was the moment "the seed of Megxit was sewn", while his colleague Sarah Hewson reflected: "Had that meeting been a success, had they been able to put their differences aside, things would have been very different indeed." Newsweek's chief Royal correspondent Jack Royston commented: "If only they'd listened. If Meghan had listened to what was being said to her, she could have changed way back in 2018. ‌ "And even if they had still quit the monarchy, they could have saved themselves so much pain and so much conflict." He went on: "What happened in that room back in June 2018 was the defining element of the relationship between the two couples that ripped the monarchy to pieces." ‌ Valentine Low, a noted Royal author, also remarked: "They had pathetic little differences that should have been sorted out in two minutes. But it helped fuel the flames." Harry's candid reflections in his memoir 'Spare' come as Meghan shared her experiences with the royals on their Netflix series. Recounting their earliest encounters, she expressed surprise at the private formality of the Royal family members. ‌ In the second instalment of their six-part Netflix documentary, 'Harry and Meghan', the Duchess discussed her first impressions of her brother-in-law and wife Kate. "When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot," Meghan explained. ‌ "I was a hugger. I've always been a hugger, I didn't realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits." The mother-of-two elaborated further on the Royal customs saying: "I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. "There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go 'You can relax now', but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."
