Cyber-criminal held for duping Hyd bizman
Kanpur: The Telangana police apprehended a cyber-criminal from the Kidwainagar area of the city who had swindled a businessman from Hyderabad of Rs 1.98 crore through online fraud.

The accused, Amar Sharma, a resident of Juhi Lal Colony in Kidwainagar, was nabbed by the Telangana police. They, with the assistance of local law enforcement, detained Amar Sharma on Saturday night.
After securing a transit remand from the local court on Sunday, the Telangana police took him with them. Amar and an accomplice, Nikhil, had tricked the businessman by promising profits in stock investments, the police said and added that Nikhil was already captured in Delhi.
The investigation revealed that Amar Sharma contacted the Hyderabad businessman via Facebook and suggested investing in the stock market with promises of quick, substantial returns. He allegedly defrauded the businessman of Rs 1.98 crore through these investment schemes. When the businessman realised the fraud, he demanded his money back but received only excuses from the accused. He then lodged a police complaint.
The police first arrested Nikhil in Delhi, who, during questioning, implicated Amar. Following this lead, the Telangana law enforcement agency coordinated with the Kidwai Nagar police station and arrested Amar at his home.
Inspector Kidwai Nagar police station Dharmendra Kumar Ram confirmed that the accused in the cyber fraud case was arrested by Telangana police, who took him to Telangana after taking him into custody.

According to official reports, a comprehensive physical examination revealed gold bars strategically hidden around her body using medical bandages and tissues, particularly around her waist and leg areas. Investigators also discovered additional gold pieces concealed within her footwear and clothing pockets. The confiscated precious metal, confirmed to be 24-carat quality, carried an estimated value exceeding Rs 12.56 crore. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Rao under both the Customs Act and the Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act. During recent court proceedings, Additional Solicitor General Aravind Kamath informed the court that formal objections had been submitted regarding the case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 18. The Special Court for Economic Offences had granted release to both Rao and co-accused Tarun Kondaru Raju last month, requiring each to provide two guarantors and post a Rs 2 lakh security bond. The release conditions included restrictions on international travel and prohibitions against repeating similar offenses. Justice Vishwanath C Gowdar approved the release after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence failed to file charges within the required timeframe. However, the Cofeposa legislation enables authorities to maintain preventive detention for individuals suspected of engaging in smuggling operations or activities that could harm foreign exchange stability, effectively overriding the earlier bail decision. This legal mechanism has resulted in Rao's continued incarceration despite the court's initial approval for her release.

New drivers flee with cars to Lucknow, Gaya

Cops insist that if possible, hire the driver from a reputed agency and ensure you have enough documents ready. At least two cases have been reported from south Kolkata where a gang, responding to online queries, is masquerading as drivers and stealing vehicles to then sell them off in UP and Bihar. Raju Singh, who recently purchased a car through a loan, hired Mohit Kumaras a full-time driver through the website "Work India". Kumar was employed by the Singh family since May 29, charging Rs 500 for six hours of daily service. On May 3, around 10.30 am, Kumar picked up Singh, along with his mother and wife, from their Haridevpur residence and dropped the family near a momo shop on Sarat Bose Road and drove away, claiming there was no parking available nearby. After multiple failed attempts to contact the driver, the family discovered that the car's GPS system was disabled, making it difficult to track the vehicle's location. The car was later traced to the Asansol area by the police. Within hours, the next location was found to be Lucknow. This incident follows a similar case where the Kasba police station recently arrested four individuals for a comparable scheme. In that case, Somnath Mukherjee rented a car through an app-based service from owner Pravesh Kothari before disappearing with the vehicle. The police successfully tracked the car to Durgapur Expressway near Memari, where they apprehended four suspects who had initially taken the car to Gaya. "People who rely on internet platforms to hire drivers often compromise their security," said a cop. "While hiring drivers provides convenience for non-drivers, the lack of proper verification systems on these platforms poses significant risks," he added.
