EVM, VVPAT check to begin in Saran on May 2
Chhapra: On the directive of the
Election Commission of India
(ECI), district election officer Aman Sameer informed political party representatives in a meeting on Saturday that the first-level checking (FLC) of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verified paper audit trails (VVPATs) would commence on May 2.
Saran district public relations officer (DPRO), Ravindra Kumar, said the FLC would take place daily from 9am to 7pm. The district, which has a total of 3,039 polling booths, possesses 6,210 ballot units, 4,993 control units and 6,134 VVPATs that require inspection.
Kumar added that authorised representatives of recognised state and national political parties must participate in the FLC to ensure complete transparency. Political parties have been instructed to send their representatives for this purpose.
The district election officer urged political parties to assist in encouraging the enrolment of young voters, saying that there are two more cut-off dates – July 1 and Oct 1 – before the final roll is published.
Saran district has 10 assembly constituencies – Chhapra, Baniapur, Ekma, Manjhi, Taraiya, Garkha (reserved), Parsa, Amnour, Marhaura and Sonepur.
