Prayagraj: The state govt will establish digital libraries in 400 villages across Prayagraj with an aim to provide modern educational resources for children and teenagers. According to official sources, these digital libraries will be set up primarily in panchayat bhawans. In cases where panchayat bhawans are unsuitable, alternative buildings will be identified. The libraries will be equipped with desktop computers and LED screens with integrated cameras, allowing students to view books and study materials on large screens. In addition, the buildings will be made Wi-Fi enabled to ensure seamless digital access. The library will consist of books from both national and local sources. The National Book Trust will supply 50% of the books while the remaining will be sourced from local publishers. The libraries will also be furnished with desks, chairs and storage cabinets to create a conducive learning environment. To oversee the implementation and operation of these digital libraries, a committee has been formed. The district magistrate will serve as the chairperson while the district panchayati raj officer (DPRO) will ex officio acting as the member secretary. In some cases, minor repairs or construction may be needed to make the panchayat buildings suitable for the libraries. These expenses will be covered by the panchayat fund. Preparations are already underway, including the finalisation of the list of villages where the libraries will be established.

Rahul Gandhi denied permission to meet students at Darbhanga hostel, venue shifted

Darbhanga : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Thursday denied permission to interact with students at the Dr Ambedkar Welfare Hostel in Bihar's Darbhanga. The district administration, in a letter issued by district welfare officer (DWO) Alok Kumar, had informed the Congress party on Wednesday that permission was not granted for its proposed event under the 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' initiative, to be held on hostel premises. Later in the day, a district public relations officer (DPRO) announced that the venue had been shifted to Nagar Bhawan, near the municipal corporation office. 'The organisers informed that the venue of Rahul Gandhi's program has been changed to Nagar Bhawan (Town Hall). Necessary arrangements have been made there,' the DPRO said. Senior Congress leader and MLC Dr Madan Mohan Jha told HT, 'If permission was to be denied, why did the administration carry out road construction and make security arrangements at the hostel earlier? The party still stands by its decision to hold the 'Chhatra Nyay Samvad' at the Ambedkar Hostel,' 'The letter, dated May 14, 2025, addressed to a leader of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Shadab Akhtar, merely states, 'Permission for the said event is not granted.' This terse line, devoid of any explanation or rationale, betrays the very spirit of transparency expected from a responsible administrative office,' a Congress party worker alleged. District magistrate (DM) Rajiv Raushan, meanwhile, clarified that the permission for Dr Ambedkar Welfare Hostel was denied according to government policy. 'An application was received from former minister and MLC Madan Mohan Jha to book the Town Hall, and accordingly, Nagar Bhawan was allotted. Any attempt to hold the program at the said hostel would not be allowed due to security and legal concerns,' he said. Ludhiana: Fake missile attack videos uploaded, two detained

Two individuals were detained for reportedly spreading panic by posting fake videos on social media, falsely claiming that missiles had struck areas near the city amid India-Pakistan tension, police said on Saturday. According to the police, the accused, in a bid to gain likes and followers, shared sensational footage showing blazing flames, accompanied by captions suggesting missile strikes had taken place, including a video falsely claiming an attack near Sacred Heart Convent School. Calling the act 'highly irresponsible', deputy commissioner of police (DCP, city and rural) Rupinder Singh said the videos were discovered during routine surveillance by the cybercrime and technical support teams of the Ludhiana police commissionerate, who are closely monitoring online activity during this sensitive time. 'One individual posted a video claiming a missile had hit a spot near Ludhiana. Another shared a clip from an unknown source alleging an attack near a local school. Their motive was merely to gain social media attention and appear to be the first to break news,' said the DCP. The police have scanned both the backward and forward links of the posts and confirmed that the videos were not genuine and had no connection to any real incident. Although the suspects have not been officially charged yet, the investigation is ongoing. 'We haven't given them a clean chit. Strict action will follow once the inquiry is complete,' the DCP added. Issuing a stern public warning, DCP Singh urged citizens not to engage in creation or circulation of fake news, especially during times of national tension. 'Spreading misinformation is a punishable offense. It disrupts public order and creates unnecessary panic,' he said, reminding the public of the police's zero-tolerance policy on social media misuse. To help prevent the spread of false information, residents have been urged to verify any claims through official sources. For authentic updates, citizens can follow the verified accounts of the deputy commissioner and the district public relations office (DPRO), Ludhiana, on Facebook, Instagram and X, the police stated. In case of any suspicious activity or fake content, the public is urged to call the dedicated helpline at 78370-18500 or the emergency number 112, cops added.
