
1,552 MSU students get aid worth 91L
This year, 2,334 students applied for financial aid. After a rigorous and transparent scrutiny process, 1,552 students were found eligible and granted assistance amounting to Rs 91,27,895. The beneficiaries include students from 14 faculties and three affiliated colleges.
"We, as a university, remain committed to inclusive education and continue to take concrete steps to support students from underprivileged backgrounds," said MSU vice-chancellor Dhanesh Patel.

f the 1,552 beneficiaries, 1,202 belong to regular courses, while 350 are enrolled in higher payment programmes (HPP). The university also extended special support to students facing exceptional hardships. A total of 69 students who lost a parent received 100% fee reimbursement under the government's institutional assistance scheme. For HPP students in similar cases, a maximum aid of Rs 10,000 was provided.
One visually challenged student was granted full tuition fee coverage as a special case.
The Faculty of Commerce recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, with 649 students receiving scholarships worth Rs 36,63,174. The Faculty of Journalism and Communication had the fewest, with five students receiving a combined Rs 31,985.
"This initiative reflects the university's commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic aspirations," said Professor Hitesh Raviya, officer on special duty (public relations and communication).

West Bengal records 12% growth in GST collection for July: CM Mamata
West Bengal has registered a 12 per cent year-on-year growth in gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for July 2025, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday, citing provisional figures released by the Centre. In a post on X, Banerjee said the state collected Rs 5,895 crore in GST revenue last month, up from Rs 5,257 crore in July 2024. "Glad to share that West Bengal has reported a robust 12 per cent year-on-year growth in gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for July 2025, recording collection of Rs 5,895 crore, compared to Rs 5,257 crore in the same month last year, according to provisional figures just released by the Government of India," she said. "Cumulative growth rate in our state's GST revenue till the month of July is 7.71 per cent. This marks a steady improvement in business and consumption in West Bengal, which is a sign of good economic health," she added. Banerjee's remarks come at a time when her government has been highlighting economic recovery and resilience in the state following the opposition parties' allegations of economic decline in the state.
