Yemen : UN Envoy Arrives in Aden to Revive Peace Talks
Grundberg's visit comes at a critical time, with escalating Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, rising displacement, and worsening food insecurity across several governorates.
According to a statement from the UN Office of the Special Envoy, Grundberg will hold meetings in Aden with government officials, civil society leaders, and humanitarian actors to discuss steps toward a comprehensive ceasefire and inclusive political process.
The envoy is also expected to travel to Sana'a in the coming days to engage with Houthi representatives, focusing on confidence-building measures such as the release of detainees, reopening of key roads, and resumption of public sector salary payments.
In a brief statement upon arrival, Grundberg stressed that 'the opportunity for peace still exists, but it requires courage, compromise, and a genuine commitment to the Yemeni people's future.' He also called for unimpeded humanitarian access and greater international support to stabilize Yemen's collapsing economy.
This visit marks Grundberg's first to Aden since the breakdown of indirect negotiations earlier this year and is seen as a pivotal moment in the UN's efforts to prevent a return to full-scale conflict and lay the groundwork for a lasting political solution.

Sana'a – Saba: A meeting was held in Sana'a today, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jamal Amer, and attended by the leadership of the political and consular sectors. The meeting discussed diplomatic and administrative issues, focusing on elevating the level of political engagement to confront aggression through a strong diplomatic front. Diplomacy, it was noted, should serve as a solid support and complement to the armed forces led by Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, which have proven to be a deterrent force and an unignorable strategic actor. This strength has granted Yemen's political role increased effectiveness in negotiations and consultations with various international powers to confront military escalation. Minister Amer stressed that the diplomatic front must exhibit the same strength and clarity as the Yemeni armed forces. He stated: 'The next stage does not allow for half-solutions or neutrality. One must choose either the national liberation path that rejects hegemony and foreign dependency, or align with those who have betrayed their homeland and become mere tools and mercenaries for regional and international powers of dominance.' The minister also called for continued efforts to develop and improve diplomatic performance in line with local, regional, and global developments. He announced the completion of procedures to adopt the financial bylaw for the diplomatic corps, in accordance with Law No. (5) amending certain provisions of the Diplomatic Corps Law, which is supported by the President of the Supreme Political Council.
