Putnam County student arrested after allegedly bringing ‘what is believed to be' a THC vape to school
The PCSO said in a Friday press release that the Upperman High School student obtained 'what is believed to be' a THC vape device and took it to school before sharing it with the same two students that 'suffered from the apparent overdose issues' that sent them to the hospital.
Both minors were being treated at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, but one of the affected students was transported via helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center due to the severity of their illness, officials said.
'The safety and health of our children is our top priority. I urge parents and guardians to talk to your children about the consequences and dangers of vaping these unknown products,' Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said in a press release.

Detectives were reportedly able to recover the vape device; it will be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for testing.
The teen who brought the device to the school was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to authorities. As of publication, he is in custody at the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center.

1 person arrested after over 100 people illegally ride bikes on Boston highways
Over 100 people were illegally riding bicycles, dirt bikes, and motorized scooters through the streets of Boston on Saturday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police. Police say they received reports of the group riding recklessly shortly after 2 p.m. The bikers originally rode into the O'Neil Tunnel on Interstate 993 heading south on the Zakim Bridge. They then left the highway at Government Center, but later returned to I-93, according to officials. Video from the highway shows bikers doing wheelies and other tricks as they ride towards the exit. At one point, the bikers exited the tunnel in the Seaport. Police say that a dirt bike then crashed into a police cruiser in the intersection of D Street and Summer Street. The rider then abandoned the bike and ran away, according to a press release. The bike was later confirmed to be stolen. Witnesses say they saw a bike leaning up against a police car, but it did not appear the vehicle was damaged from the incident. A 22-year-old rider was also arrested during the incident and is expected to face charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to police. His identity has not been released. It is unknown if any other bikers were arrested. Police did fly a helicopter over Boston throughout the day to monitor the riders. It was described by onlookers as a chaotic scene as the riders swerved around traffic. "They were doing some wheelies, yeah. They were riding pretty good," said Clint Sanders. "It was mostly kids. Yeah looked like mostly young kids." Zack Wendt, another witness, voiced mixed feelings about the incident. "It's definitely not safe," he said. "If they're dangerous, then it's not good, but if they're just riding around for a joy ride, let 'em do it." Authorities are now urging the public to remain vigilant and ask them not to interact with the group if they see them on a public road. Riding a bike on a highway is illegal in Massachusetts. The City of Boston website says that everyone is welcome to ride a bike on all public streets in the Commonwealth, but they are required to follow traffic laws.

6-year-old girl detained by ICE along with mom, brother in NYC
Three family members, including a 6-year-old girl, were detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after what was supposed to be a routine immigration hearing in Lower Manhattan. Efforts are underway to try to get the family out of ICE custody. Mariposa Benitez, a founder of the grassroots organization Mi Tlalli, says on Tuesday, ICE agents detained a woman named Martha, her daughter Dayra and her 19-year-old son Manuel at 26 Federal Plaza. "They came together as a family escaping the violence that they have experienced in Ecuador," Benitez said. Manuel just graduated from high school in June, and Dayra is believed to be the young student detained by ICE in New York City. She is at least the fourth city public school student to be detained by ICE this year. Benitez says Martha and Dayra are now at an ICE detention center in Dilley, Texas, and Manuel was transferred to the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. "I'm a licensed clinical social worker, and the impact of family separation on their mental health is something that they will not be able to recover from in many years to come," Benitez said. The Department of Homeland Security released a statement saying, in part, that Martha and her children entered the U.S. illegally in December 2022. "They have all received final orders of removal from an immigration judge," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. Another of Martha's sons, who lives in Queens and did not want to share his name, said he felt destroyed when he found out his mom, his sister and his brother were detained. In Spanish, he told CBS News New York his mom admitted she was afraid of going to court, and he feels helpless. He said his mother's hugs brought him joy and peace, and his sister inherited that warmth and reassurance. Martha's boyfriend said he spoke with her recently, and she told him she's afraid of being deported and of the gangs and danger back in Ecuador. Martha's son said he feels helpless and the most painful part is not knowing when he'll be reunited with the rest of his family again. Martha's loved ones are calling for the family's reunion and release.

Investigation underway after woman found dead in Anaheim field
Anaheim police are seeking help from the public in locating a suspect in the death of a homeless woman who was found in a field on Tuesday. Officers were sent to a field in the 2100 block of W. Crescent Avenue at around 3 a.m. after learning of a woman who was unconscious and bleeding in the area. "Upon arrival, they located a deceased woman, 43-year-old Jessica Elaine Crummel of Anaheim, inside a tent in a large unoccupied field on the north side of the street," said a news release from APD. Investigators believe that the death is a homicide. They say that Crummel was possibly living out of a tent in the field where she was found.
