He also asked why a "third country" announced the cessation of military action by India and Pakistan.
"We expect Pakistan to remain committed to the ceasefire, though questions have been raised - why did a third country announce it despite the government's policy of no third-party intervention... We don't know what they (Pakistan) might do next, so the security forces have to be alert," he said.

Meanwhile, Congress MP and AICC in charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Naseer Hussain, on Saturday, condemned Pakistan's recent cross-border shelling in Poonch, which targeted places of worship, including Gurudwaras, Churches, Madrasas, and Temples, resulting in 13 deaths and significant damage.
"They neither left the Gurudwara nor left the Church nor left the Madrasa nor left the Temple. Thirteen people lost their lives here. Apart from this, many people were injured, and many people lost their property. Therefore, a lot of damage has been done," Hussain said.
"Rahul Gandhi will go to the homes of people killed in the shelling. He will go to the schools of two children killed in the shelling and meet their classmates. There was an attack on a Gurudwara; he will visit there. He will go to the Madrasa, which was attacked and where one person was killed. We want to give confidence to these people who are in the farthest-flung areas of the country," he added.
Hussain raised questions about the India-Pakistan understanding, suggesting it was reached with US mediation, and expressed disappointment over the ceasefire's implications.
"When the ceasefire happened, the whole country was disappointed because of the way our soldiers were fighting, our army was fighting, the way our armed forces were fighting, and we had the upper hand. However, with the US-mediated arbitration, we accepted this ceasefire. The whole country is asking for answers," he said.
Earlier, a five-member Trinamool Congress delegation on Thursday met with the families affected by
Pakistani shelling
in Poonch district, expressing solidarity with the families and reaffirming their commitment to humanity and peace. After meeting the families and seeing the damage, TMC MP Derek O' Brien underlined how he has been "deeply moved" by meeting the affected families.

Massive crowd welcomes Rahul Gandhi as 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' kicks off in Bihar

A mammoth crowd turned Sasaram into a sea of Tricolour on Sunday as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched the 16-day, 1,300-km-long 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' across Bihar. Senior INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, joined Rahul Gandhi at the historic launch that drew thousands of supporters lining the roads. Addressing the rally, Kharge called upon the people of Bihar to resist 'vote theft' allegedly being carried out by the BJP. 'This yatra is not just for winning an election, it is to save the Constitution, democracy and people's right to vote,' he said. Kharge accused the Election Commission of deleting 65 lakh voters from the rolls, largely from Dalit, Adivasi, minority, and other backward communities. Rahul Gandhi, in a sharp attack on the BJP and RSS, said the fight was to protect the Constitution from being 'wiped out' through electoral manipulation. 'Elections are being stolen in Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha across the country,' he said, citing Bihar's Special Intensive Revision of voter lists as 'a conspiracy to disenfranchise millions ahead of state polls.' He also pointed to Maharashtra, where, he claimed, the INDIA bloc swept the Lok Sabha elections but lost ground in the Assembly polls due to the sudden addition of one crore new voters, 'all favouring the BJP.' Gandhi further cited the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in Bengaluru Central, where Congress alleged over one lakh fake votes had swung the outcome in the BJP's favour. Reiterating his party's commitment to social justice, Gandhi said the Congress would conduct a nationwide caste census and push to remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making false promises on the issue and warned that the government would not act sincerely. The event was attended by INDIA bloc leaders including K.C. Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel, Krishna Allavaru, Rajesh Ram, Shakeel Ahmad, Dipankar Bhattacharya, and Akhilesh Pratap Singh.

According to the DCC chief, Rahul will formally enter Gaya district on Monday. He is scheduled to be felicitated by INDIA bloc supporters at several locations, including Guraru, Yahyapur and Panchanpur. The Congress leader will conclude the second day of his yatra with the corner meeting near Khalish Park. Later, he will spend the night in Rasalpur village on the eastern outskirts of the town, staying in a specially designed container. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi is set to visit Gaya four days later on Aug 22. He will address a public meeting on the Magadh University campus, where he is expected to announce several development projects for Bihar and particularly for the Magadh region, ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections. The back-to-back visits of Rahul and Modi to Gaya are being viewed as significant campaign manoeuvres by the two political rivals.

Cong-RJD campaign a political drama: NDA

Patna: The BJP and other NDA allies on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the opposition's 'Vote Adhikar Yatra', led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav from Sasaram in Rohtas. Deputy CM and senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary circulated a 1991 photograph showing film actor Rajesh Khanna casting his vote with former PM Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi standing beside him. "Have you ever cast your vote like this?" he asked. Choudhary alleged that the Nehru-Gandhi family treated the country as personal property. "This family used to consider voting as a family joke and used to vote. The entire frustration of Rahul Gandhi, the heir of the 'Nehru sultanate' drenched in the anarchy and arrogance he inherited, is on the fact that he is no longer getting the exemption that his family used to get. When those who considered voting as a means of entertainment for their family were rejected by the public, they set out with a web of lies, rumours and confusion," he said. Union minister Nityanand Rai accused the opposition of attempting to mislead the public. "The Grand Alliance leaders, especially Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, are conspiring to mislead the people of Bihar, but they are not going to fall into their trap now because they know the reality," he said. Turning his attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Rai added, "Those who stole the fodder are distributing fake certificates of vote theft. I want to ask Lalu ji who did the fodder and uniform scam? Before standing on the mountain of scams and accusing the Election Commission of vote theft, look into your own conscience and see how you have ruled Bihar for a long time by making foreign infiltrators, Bangladeshis and Rohingyas voters. The EC is trying to correct the mistakes through SIR." Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) national president and minister Santosh Suman dismissed the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' as political theatre. "Congress and RJD, guilty of ruining Bihar for decades, should apologise to the people of Bihar. It is ridiculous for a party whose culture is booth looting, violence and snatching the right to vote of the poor and Dalits, to take out a yatra in the name of protecting the right to vote. In 2000, due to RJD's booth looting, repolls had to be held at 2,273 polling booths in Bihar. Before that, in the 1995 Bihar Assembly elections, repolls had to be conducted at 1,668 polling booths due to widespread complaints of booth capturing," he said. JD(U) spokespersons Arvind Nishad, Manish Yadav and media panellist Mahesh Das also criticised Rahul Gandhi's Bihar campaign. "Rahul should understand that Bihar is not the land of political tourism, but of development and progress. There is no need to wear the glasses of politics, because you have the one only of massacre, looting and crime," they said.
