Talking about the controversy, the former actress told ANI, '…It was all in God's hands for me to become Mahamandaleshwar in that Kumbh, which was such a holy occasion in 140 years. God provided me with the fruits of 25 years of my 'tapasya'. So, that happened."

'The great Kumbh festival of Sanatana, where our roots are connected, is a grand celebration. This is a sacred festival Some people associate vulgarity, intoxication, and inappropriate behaviour in the name of Kumbh – this is not the true essence of the Maha Kumbh," Baba Ramdev told PTI.

Movie 'Thug Life' will not be released in Karnataka on June 5, producers tell HC
Bengaluru, June 3 (PTI) Kamal Haasan starrer 'Thug life' will not be released in Karnataka on June 5, the scheduled date for the pan-India release of the much-anticipated movie, its producers informed the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday. When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Nagaprasanna, counsel for the petitioner maintained that there was no malice and an apology was not warranted and submitted that the screening of the movie would not be insisted upon in Karnataka till the issue gets resolved through dialogue. The court posted to June 10 further hearing of the petition by the production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, seeking adequate security for the movie's release in the state. During the hearing, filmmaker Haasan came in for strong criticism from the court for his remark suggesting that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil," and the court observed that a 'single apology could have resolved the situation." The petition was filed following widespread protest against the actor's recent remarks regarding Kannada language and a demand for his apology. Hearing the petition, Justice Nagaprasanna asked, 'Are you a historian or a linguist to make such a statement? No language is born out of another. A single apology could have resolved the situation." Further, the judge said no citizen has the right to hurt sentiments and underlined that an apology 'even a symbolic one," was missing. To this, the counsel for petitioner submitted that 'an apology is needed when there is malice, not for a misunderstanding." Justice M Nagaprasanna said that the actor's recent statement has stirred the hornet's nest and triggered 'certain unrest in the state of Karnataka,' and held that it undermined the Karnataka people's sentiment of language. 'There are many ways of clarifying, but only one way of seeking apology," the court noted, as it recorded that the letter addressed by Haasan to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) did not include an explicit apology. 'Freedom of expression cannot be extended to the extent of hurting someone's sentiment, of a mass in particular," the Judge said. He also observed that languages may be many, but the country is still one and there can be no division there. The remarks, reportedly made by Haasan at a promotional event in Chennai for his upcoming Tamil film 'Thug Life', sparked a backlash in Karnataka, prompting the KFCC to announce that the film would not be screened in the state unless Haasan apologised. In response, Raajkamal Films International the production company of Haasan filed a plea before the High Court seeking protection for the film's release. The senior counsel submitted that the petitioner is not, for now, willing to screen the movie in Karnataka, unless a dialogue or a trialogue with the KFCC was encouraged. Further, the counsel submitted that the matter may be adjourned to enable them to have a dialogue. Senior Advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, appearing for Haasan, read out the letter the actor sent to KFCC, which said, his recent statement in connection with the evolution of Kannada language was misunderstood and that his words were taken out of context. The actor also has asserted that his love for Kannada language is genuine. 'He has sincere love for Kannada and meant no offence," Chinnappa said and added that the 'communication' was issued immediately after Haasan returned from a promotional event in Dubai. The Judge said, 'but the word apology is not found in the communication…." '….on all these factors, and also in the light of the fact that of the statement of the senior counsel on instructions that the screening of the movie would not be insisted upon in the state of Karnataka till the issue gets resolved till the dialogue/trialogue would yield any results." The court underlined that an apology 'even a symbolic one," was missing. 'Only one sentence was to be added. It is not compulsion, that is the grace he (Haasan) should have," said Justice Nagaprasanna. Chinnappa maintained that the statement was not issued with malice and thus did not warrant an apology. 'It is not ego at all," he argued. 'An apology is needed when there is malice, not for a misunderstanding." The judge said that the actor's statement had hurt the sentiments of the people of Karnataka and questioned his refusal to offer an apology. 'Language is an emotional and cultural identity of a people," and stressed that no individual has the right to make comments that undermine the pride of an entire linguistic community, the court observed. 'Water, land, and language ' Jala, Nela, Bashe ' are crucial to citizens. The division of this country itself was based on linguistic lines," the court observed. Late leader C Rajagopalachari made a similar statement but apologised for it, the court said. '….If Rajagopalachari could tender a public apology 75 years ago, why can't you (Kamal Haasan)? For your commercial interest, you have approached this court seeking police protection for a situation created by you," the judge said. Advocate Chinnappa, told the court that the remark was not 'drastically wrong". During the argument when Chinnappa said, eggs and words must be handled with care, the Judge added, 'you cannot unscramble the scrambled egg." "Whoever plays better will win the game": Anil Kumble ahead of IPL 2025 final
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 3 (ANI): Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), former India captain Anil Kumble shared his thoughts on the title clash, where he said that the team that plays better will win the match. Kumble met Karnataka's Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre at his (latter's) official residence on Tuesday. The Rajat Patidar-led side and the Punjab-based franchise will lock horns against each other in the final of the 18th edition of the cash-rich league at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to end their title drought in the competition. Speaking on the IPL 2025 final, Anil Kumble told the media, 'I have been involved in both teams. It is good that there will be a new winner. It will be a really good game. Whoever plays better will win the game.' RCB have qualified for the Indian Premier League final thrice in the past, losing all three times in 2009, 2011 and on the other hand, qualified for the final once in 2014 when they were known as Kings XI Punjab, losing the match to Kolkata Knight Riders. Royal Challengers Bengaluru were the first team to qualify for the final. They finished the league stage in second spot with 19 points from 14 games before beating Punjab Kings by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 to book their berth in the final. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, topped the league stage with 19 points from 14 games and a better net run rate than RCB. However, PBKS lost their Qualifier 1 game against RCB, leading to them facing Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 clash, which they won by five wickets to secure their spot in the summit match. (ANI)

"He's probably one of, if not the most feared batsman": Keshav Maharaj on Heinrich Klaasen's international retirement
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): After Heinrich Klaasen's retirement from international cricket, South Africa all-rounder Keshav Maharaj hailed the wicketkeeper-batter's influence on the modern game, as per the ICC official website. Heinrich Klaasen stunned the cricketing world on Monday by announcing his decision to step away from international cricket. Widely regarded as one of the most destructive batters of the modern era, Klaasen's international career spanned just seven years, having debuted in 2018. Despite the brevity of his stint, the 33-year-old played a pivotal role in South Africa's white-ball resurgence, helping them reach the semi-finals of the 2023 Cricket World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy, as well as the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Maharaj, who has watched the wicket-keeper batter from close quarters through the years, reflected on what he believes was the turning point in Klaasen's career. 'From a teammate point of view and a cricketing point of view, we know the skill he possesses,' Maharaj said, speaking with the ICC while in preparation for the World Test Championship Final. 'It's amazing to see how his journey's transitioned, where you're sort of in and out, probably not knowing where he stands, and then it just took one series that really changed the game. It was actually against Australia, I remember that ODI series, I think he got two 100s and a 50 [one hundred and two fifties] in that three-match series. And he's never looked back,' Maharaj added. The innings Maharaj referred to came during the home ODI series against Australia in February-March 2020. At the time, Klaasen's ODI career appeared to be on shaky ground, with just 251 runs in 14 matches at an average of a little over 22, with only one score above fifty. That series marked a dramatic turnaround for Klaasen in international cricket, starting with a brilliant unbeaten 123 in the opening match, his maiden ODI century. He followed it up with scores of 51 and 68* as South Africa swept the series 3-0. He finished with 242 runs and was deservedly named Player of the Series. Maharaj paid tribute to the retiring batter, recognising both his influence on South African cricket and the significant void he leaves behind. 'He's probably one of, if not the most feared batsman, especially in the white-ball game these days. Yeah, it's sad to know that he's walking away. He's still young,' Maharaj noted. 'He's younger than me. But, you know, we can only wish him well. I'm sure he has his reasons as to why, and you've got to respect that. Obviously, a huge boot to fill within the lineup. But I know he'll still be here supporting us and making sure that we get over the line in this game as well,' he added. One of the most memorable matches Maharaj and Klaasen shared in recent times was the thrilling ICC Men's T20 World Cup Final against India. Chasing 177 for victory, South Africa were 70/3 in the ninth over when Klaasen walked in and immediately seized the momentum. With a stunning counterattack, he smashed a 27-ball 52, swinging the match in South Africa's favour and reducing the equation to just 26 needed from 24 balls. But the game turned dramatically when Klaasen fell to the very first ball of a new over from Hardik Pandya, a pivotal moment from which South Africa never quite recovered and ended up seven runs short. Looking back at the game, Maharaj said: 'If you look at it, it probably goes down as one of the most special finals. We didn't get over the line, but if it wasn't for that knock, we would have probably lost by a lot more than we did. 'So he brought us back in the game and gave us a little bit of hope. And [we] probably didn't cross the final hurdle, but it was super special to witness the calibre and the skill factor of the player come out in a game of that magnitude. It just shows why he's world-class,' Maharaj concluded. (ANI)
