Olympic champions Summer McIntosh and Leon Marchand claimed gold medals in the women's and men's 400m individual medley at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.Teenager McIntosh won her fourth gold medal of the week as she finished more than seven seconds clear of silver medallist Jenna Forrester on Sunday with a championship record time of 4 minutes 25.78 seconds.Earlier this week, the 18-year-old took gold in the 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 200m medley, as well as bronze in the 800m freestyle on Saturday.McIntosh - who holds world records in both the 200m and 400m medley and the 400m freestyle - won three gold medals and a silver at her first Olympics last summer.Great Britain's Freya Colbert came last after qualifying for the final as the eighth-best swimmer in the heats.
Frenchman Marchand scraped through in the men's 400m medley heats with a sluggish performance, but recovered to win gold in 4:04:73 - almost four seconds ahead of silver medallist Tomoyuki Matsushita. The 23-year-old Paris Games hero set a new world record in winning gold in the men's 200m individual medley on Thursday, but was two seconds shy of breaking the 400m world record he set at the 2023 World Championships.Max Litchfield finished seventh, capping a disappointing week for Team GB. Marchand later helped France take silver in the men's 4x100m medley relay, as Team GB finished sixth. The USA set a new world record in the women's 4x100m medley relay with a time of 3:49.34, while Britain came last. There was a gold medal for Tunisia's Ahmed Jaouadi in the men's 1500m freestyle, adding to the 20-year-old's triumph in the 800m freestyle earlier this week.Olympic silver medalist Meg Harris won the women's 50m freestyle, while Lithuania's Ruta Meilutyte retained her 50m breaststroke with a time of 29.55.Kliment Kolesnikov won gold in the men's 50m backstroke with 23:68, though he fell more than a second short of the world record he set three years ago.In the final diving event of the week, Britain's Robbie Lee came 12th in the men's 10m platform as Cassiel Rousseau of Australia took gold.
Brigh future for GB after tough week
Great Britain enjoyed a difficult week in Singapore, winning just five medals, including one gold. While illness has caused issues in the camp, GB's performance director Chris Spice does not want that to be an excuse."We don't try to dwell on that. You only have to look at some of our relay selections in the last couple of days to see some of the people who might have been affected by that," he told BBC Sport."We're not staying close to other teams, we've tried to minimise the risk of transferring anything between teams."But of course you're in a heated environment with people all close to each other. It's natural that there is going to be some illness around. That's what it is. We just put our heads down and try and get on with it."There has been a lot of change both in the water and behind the scenes for British Swimming, something Spice felt contributed to an underwhelming week."We've had three British records here as opposed to two last year. Underneath the bonnet, things aren't bad," he added."We think we've got the best crop of juniors we've had in the last four or five years. Hopefully as we get towards LA [2028 Olympic Games], those two things will come together and the results will start to come."We've got a very young team, we've got eight people here at their first World Championships. There are a lot of newbies, there is a lot of learning going on. "There were missed opportunities this week, we left two or three medals on the table."We've got a new head coach, a new team manager. The head of sports science and medicine has gone across to diving. We're all learning about each other and need time to bed in."

Kate Waugh out to be best of Brits at T100 London triathlon

The 26-year-old from Gateshead laid down a marker with the biggest ever margin of victory on her debut at the distance in Singapore. She has now settled comfortably into the T100 level, having prioritised a fresh feeling after making her Games debut in Paris. 'It was really important for me to try something new,' Waugh said. 'I think a lot of people post-Olympics feel a bit burnt out because it is a lot. 'It is a race that comes around every four years, and there is a lot that goes into it, emotionally, mentally, physically. 'After my off-season, I asked my manager whether he thought I could get a T100 contract, and when one came through, I just really wanted to take that opportunity and jump on the T100 train. 'I have been watching it for a few years now and really admire the women in particular who race the T100, I just see them as such strong athletes, so I really wanted to get involved with it. It has been really positive and really refreshing to try something new.' T100 sees athletes complete a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18k run, with London the fourth stop on a nine-leg tour around the world. Waugh currently sits third in the standings as she followed up her win in Asia with third place in San Francisco. T100 has allowed Waugh to focus on new challenges after a Olympic debut that did not go to plan (Image: PTO/T100) She believes she has experienced two very different races, with Singapore going perfectly while having to grind out a result in California. In London, she leads a British pack of nine women set to compete, with three-time Olympic medallist Georgia Taylor-Brown making her debut at the distance. No Brit has yet topped the podium in the capital, with Kat Matthews coming closest as she finished third in 2024. Waugh added: 'There are so many of us who are super strong over that distance. 'It is pretty cool that we have such a strong contingent from Great Britain, obviously, I want to be the first one across the line. 'I hope the couple of races that I have done can give me that upper hand over newbies, like Georgia, at this distance. 'I would imagine she is going to be really strong as well. She is a very well-rounded athlete. 'And then there is Lucy Charles-Barclay, Lucy Byram, and India Lee, who are all really strong athletes, so I am sure everyone is pretty motivated to compete well, which hopefully makes for a really exciting race.' The next T100 Triathlon World Tour race takes place in London on 9-10 August. Visit

Crystal Palace to FINALLY appear at Court of Arbitration for Sport to appeal Europa League demotion

Crystal Palace will attempt to overturn their Europa League demotion at a high-stakes hearing on Friday – and the man at the centre of the issue will not be present. Eagles lawyers and officials will present their case having appealed UEFA's decision to drop them into the Europa Conference League thanks to breaches of its rules on multi-club ownership. Last month, revealed how Palace were in grave danger of being kicked out of the competition. And, following a hearing at UEFA HQ, the FA Cup winners' fears became reality. UEFA adjudicators ruled that John Textor, the US businessman whose company held a 43 per cent stake in the club along with a majority stake in fellow qualifiers Lyon, did hold 'control or decisive influence' at Selhurst Park, despite the fact he only possessed 25 per cent of voting rights. Because the French side finished in a higher position in their domestic league they took the slot, with Nottingham Forest subsequently leapfrogging Palace. Palace will appear at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in Lausanne, Switzerland, but Textor, who was a key witness at the UEFA hearing and who has subsequently sold his stake in the club, will not be there. Palace want their demotion overturned and for either Lyon or Forest to be demoted. Forest are sending their own legal team. Those who attend have the option to evade publicity by entering via a side exit. It is understood Palace, who believe they have done nothing wrong, will shun such a manoeuvre and enter via the main entrance.
