Baby shower rammy left mum with bald patch after ‘baby bingo' game sparks scrap
The niece of darts legend and former world champion Jocky Wilson has been ordered to pay £500 compensation for assaulting a woman at her daughters baby shower party.
Sarah Wilson, 45, appeared for sentence after feuding families turned the pre-birth celebrations into chaos which ended with the victim's hair being pulled out.
The party last May at Lochore Miners Welfare Institute in Lochore, Fife, took place before Sarah Wilson's daughter Chantelle gave birth.
During a trial last month, Wilson from Kirkcaldy admitted assaulting Pamela Ritchie by seizing her by the hair.
Her other daughter Chardonnay, 20, was found guilty of assaulting a 61-year-old gran by attempting to remove a feeding tube.
The trial heard there was growing hostility between the two families in the run up to the get-together.
Light-hearted games such as 'Baby Bingo' were ruined by offensive comments fired back and forward across the hall and the bad feeling escalated to violence outside the hall.
There were the claims about abusive comments aimed at the Wilsons being written on a paper plate. In an earlier game one guest suggested Chantelle would rather open a bottle of wine than a bottle for the baby.
Sarah Wilson's solicitor Stephen Morrison said yesterday: 'This was a baby shower celebration that turned sour for one reason or another. She absolutely regrets the incident and she hadn't been drinking that day.
"She continues to have a relationship with her daughter's partner but not with the rest of his family. There's no reason to believe there will be a repetition of this behaviour as she's not likely to put herself into another family situation like this.'
The solicitor said his client suffered from physical and mental health issues, receives over £2,000 a month in benefits and was unfit to do unpaid work.
He said Sarah Wilson had two previous convictions for similar offences and one of these in particular was 'not insignificant'.
Sheriff Susan Duff commented: "Mrs Ritchie's evidence was that she was left with a bald section on her head as a chunk of hair had been pulled out."
The sheriff ordered £500 compensation to be paid to the victim and added she was unimpressed by Wilson's reaction in the dock.
She told Wilson's lawyer she would have to return to court in November make sure the money had been paid, adding: 'Your client's face said an awful lot about what she thought of the sentence.'

Although found guilty, Sheriff Duff had previously granted Chardonnay Wilson an absolute discharge as a conviction on her record would have ended her career as a carer for the elderly.
Jocky Wilson, from Kirkcaldy, was world champion in 1982 and 1989 and one of the biggest stars of the games. He retired to Kirkcaldy in 1995 and died at the age of 62 in 2012.

'He's not been in touch with family, friends, or associates that we know of since Tuesday, so there is concern for his welfare. Mum and daughter die in horror car crash as dad and sister remain in hospital
Six-year-old Ella and her mum Natalie, a well-known nurse, were killed in the collision with a van on Wednesday. A young nurse and her six-year-old daughter have tragically died following a two-vehicle crash. Natalie McLaughlin and her daughter Ella, from Carndonagh in Donegal were in a car which collided with a van on the R240 at Glentogher, at 6.30pm on Wednesday, July 2. Ella was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, with her parents and younger sister rushed to hospital across the border in Derry. Mum-of-two Natalie, who was in her 20s, was initially taken to Altnagelvin Hospital, but later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where she died from her injuries on Thursday afternoon. Her husband Tyrone is still in a serious condition, but his injuries are not said to be life-threatening. Their other daughter Rhea Rose, two, was also transferred to Belfast for specialist treatment, but is also understood to not have life-threatening injuries. The van driver, who is in his late teens, was treated at the scene for non-serious injuries, the Mirror reports. Natalie worked as a nurse at a GP practice in Carndonagh, having started her career as a registered nurse just three years ago. The loss of anybody on our roads is difficult for any community to take. "But the loss of a mother and daughter, particularly given the fact that they are so young, is even more poignant and more difficult to accept. People are just numb and there is very little I can add to that other than to keep them all in our thoughts and prayers." Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The road was closed for examination by a forensics team, but later reopened on Thursday. Officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch. Inspector Sean McDaid, Head of the Garda Traffic Corps in Co Donegal, has asked any motorists travelling in the area at the time of the crash who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) to pass it on to investigating Gardaí.

Former Glasgow Lord Provost stalked ex-partner and bombarded her with texts
Philip Braat was banned from going near the woman for five years. A former Lord Provost of Glasgow who bombarded his ex-partner with texts and social media messages in a bid to win her back has been banned from going near her for five years. Philip Braat was also today ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work and fined £840. The 49 year-old, of the city's Broomhill, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court. He had earlier pleaded guilty to a single charge of stalking. The court heard how he had contacted the woman 122 times between July and September 2024. The pair started dating in 2021 and went on to live together. The woman told Braat that she was ending the relationship in July 2024. Fiscal Paige Phillips said: "The woman thought that this was fake and to get her attention as well as to make her feel guilty." She later contacted Braat emphasise the end of their relationship during a "very emotional and distressing" call. The woman also stated that she did not love him and wanted to get on with her life. Braat attempted to persuade her that the pair should be together and stated that he could "not live" without her." He said: "You better visit my parents and you better keep my legacy alive." The woman believed that this was in reference to Braat ending his life and he said: "I don't want to live without you." When asked if it was in reference to ending his life, Braat replied: "Maybe." Between July and September, the woman received 18 emails, 51 Instagram messages, 15 text messages, 37 WhatsApp messages and a LinkedIn message. Some of the emails contained "goodbye" letters to the woman and Braat's own family. The woman contacted the police and Braat was traced to his parents' address where he was found "safe and well." Braat's LinkedIn message, congratulating her on a professional award she received resulted in the woman going to the police. She stated that the messages were not nasty but there was "no escape" from Braat and she could "not cope any longer." Braat gave a "no comment" interview to police after his arrest. Solicitor advocate Andrew Seggie, defending, told the court: "He was at a low point and felt suicidal and his focus was on winning the woman back during the period of the charge. As a result of the passage of time, he accepts his behaviour overstepped the mark. He is genuinely remorseful. "He was the Lord Provost during the pandemic and he said he felt additional pressure to assist those who lost loved ones as a result of the pandemic together with his own constituents. He was trying to manage this and juggle his own family issues and the end of the relationship caused him to suffer a mental health breakdown during this period." Sheriff Owen Mullan toda imposed the five year non harassment order banning Braat from approaching or contacting the woman for the next five years. The unpaid work must be completed within six months. Sheriff Mullan said Braat's behaviour had 'overstepped the mark' and that it would have been 'stressful' for the woman. Braat has represented the Anderston /City/Yorkhill ward since 2007 and is subject to an investigation by Scottish Labour. Braat was the deputy Lord Provost in 2017 before taking on the senior role in 2020 until 2022. He left the position after the 2019 resignation of Eva Bolander amid criticism of her expenses claims. Braat was also the former convener of the Strathclyde Police Authority (SPA) and represented Glasgow at COP26. Braat was a member of the Law Society of Scotland, an honorary captain in the Royal Navy Reserves, and a member of the Glasgow Tree Lovers' Society.
