CM releases ₹50 crore development grant to each MLA; to hold meeting with legislators on July 30 and 31
In a bid to gain the confidence of the legislators, particularly those of the Congress, the Chief Minister decided to hold meetings with MLAs district wise on July 30 and 31 at the State Secretariat.
Utilisation plan
As per the note signed by Mr. Siddaramaiah, out of the ₹50 crore, the MLAs have been instructed to utilise ₹37.5 crore for roads and bridge works under the Public Works Department, both in rural areas, and other works in urban areas. The remaining ₹12.5 crore can be utilised for other department works identified by MLAs in their respective constituencies.
The funds would be released from the Chief Minister's Infrastructure Development Programme (CMIDP), and ₹8,000 crore has been allocated in the State Budget for 2025-26.
The release of the grants is expected to ease discontent within the Congress, where some MLAs had publicly criticised the delay. The taking up of development works at the local level is also expected to benefit the party in the civic and local body elections in the State.
Internal discussions
The decision to release funds came after weeks of internal discussions and mounting pressure from party MLAs who had complained of fund shortage for taking up development works in their constituencies. During the meeting with Mr. Surjewala, the party MLAs expressed disappointment over the lack of financial support. Later, Mr. Surjewala held a meeting with Mr. Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and reportedly took up the issue of release of funds for legislators.
It may be noted that Congress MLA for Kagwad Raju Kage had threatened to resign over the delay in implementing development works in his constituency and blamed the government for denying funds for the past two years.

Conspiracy to keep 'Bahujans' out of education: Rahul Gandhi slams govt on vacant university posts
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday attacked the Modi government over vacant reserved posts for SCs, STs and OBCs in central universities and said this is not just negligence but a "well-planned conspiracy" to keep 'Bahujans' out of education, research and policies. The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha demanded that all such vacant posts be filled immediately and 'Bahujans' be given their rights, not "Manuwadi boycott". In a post on X in Hindi, Gandhi said the figures presented by the Modi government in Parliament are solid proof of 'Bahujans' being deprived of their rights and the presence of "institutional Manuism". In central universities, 83 per cent of the posts of professor for STs, 80 per cent for OBCs and 64 per cent for SCs have been "deliberately" kept vacant, he claimed. At the same time, 65 per cent of the posts of assistant professor for STs, 69 per cent for OBCs and 51 per cent for SCs have also been left vacant, the Congress leader charged. "This is not just negligence, it is a well-planned conspiracy to keep Bahujans out of education, research and policies," Gandhi said.

Gujarat Govt Tells Teachers to Serve Food at Temple Fair, Withdraws Order After Criticism
New Delhi: The Gujarat government has been criticised for ordering 48 schoolteachers in Rajkot district to serve food instead of teaching students. After the controversial move resulted in criticism including the opposition Congress training its guns on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state, the order was scrapped, reported New Indian Express. The order was issued by the deputy Collector of Jasdan with 48 schoolteachers from Jasdan taluka being ordered to serve food to VVIPs during the upcoming Shravan month festival at the Ghela Somnath temple in Rajkot district. According to the circular directed at primary teachers from over 10 local schools, the teachers had to manage food arrangements during the religious fair. Gujarat is already grappling with an alarming shortage of 12,500 teachers and 700 principals across the state. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi slammed the the government, calling it a 'repeated insult to educators.' He added that teachers in Gujarat have been roped into more than 30 non-teaching roles over the years, including for crowd mobilisation for political events to pest control. Following the uproar over the order, Jasdan's provincial officer withdrew the circular and stated that teachers may still choose to volunteer at the temple fair but not under compulsion. Gujarat education minister Kuber Dindor admitted the error and clarified that the Education Department had instructed local authorities to scrap the directive. He said that teachers should only be assigned essential national duties like elections or voter list revisions and not temple hospitality.

Modi becomes India's second-longest serving PM in uninterrupted tenure, surpasses Indira Gandhi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday became India's second-longest serving prime minister in consecutive terms, completing 4,078 uninterrupted days in office — surpassing the continuous tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi, who held office from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977, had served 4,077 days in her first uninterrupted term. Modi, 74, assumed office on May 26, 2014, and was sworn in for a historic third consecutive term in June 2024 after the Lok Sabha elections. With this milestone, he trails only Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, who served for 16 years and 286 days from August 15, 1947, to May 27, 1964. Modi is now the first and only non-Congress prime minister to complete two full terms and secure a third successive mandate. He also holds the distinction of being the first PM born in independent India and remains the longest-serving prime minister from a non-Congress party. Before becoming Prime Minister, Modi served as the chief minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 — the longest tenure for a CM in the state's history. His national political journey began with the BJP's landslide victory in the 2014 general elections, where the party secured 272 Lok Sabha seats on its own. Under his leadership, the BJP improved its tally to 303 in 2019. Although it fell short of an outright majority in the 2024 elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and formed the government with the support of its NDA allies. Modi is also the only non-Congress leader to have led a party to a single-party majority in the Lok Sabha — a feat he achieved twice, in 2014 and 2019. Indira Gandhi returned to power for a second term from January 14, 1980 until her assassination on October 31, 1984. However, her unbroken tenure during her first term had remained second only to Nehru — until Modi's latest record.
