‘Extremely frustrating': People still without answers or cars after JIA garage fire
Nearly one month after the parking garage fire that damaged 50 cars at the Jacksonville International Airport, people are still having issues getting information about their cars.
Tracey Casteel says she was only told by the valet company SP+ that they were unable to get her car and that she had to take a Lyft or Uber. She only found out her car was melted from seeing her car on the news.
'It's like when I watch my cat chase her tail. It's just you're going in circles, only you're hitting brick walls everywhere you go,' said Casteel.
That's how Casteel describes her experience dealing with Jacksonville International Airport and the Valet service SP+ since the fire.

She hasn't been able to get access to the car since returning back to Jacksonville on May 19th.
She says she contacted the airport when the fire first happened.
'I did the little online thing of putting in your car and everything, but everything tells you if you're valet parked that you have to talk to the valet folks,' Casteel says. 'I have attempted to reach the airport through social media and different things like that. I've gotten no response from the airport.'
Because she can't get to the car, she can't get anything done through her insurance either. She's been paying for a rental while she tries to get some answers from the airport or the valet company.
'The airport has not necessarily talked to directly the folks that valet parked, because valet parking is managed by another company. They have spoken to us, and I actually was able to reach out to a couple of different folks, even at their corporate office in leadership roles, but they can only tell us what the airport tells them,' said Casteel. 'Just trying to get some answers has been extremely frustrating.'
Action News Jax has reached out to both JIA and the valet company SP+ to get a response on this. JIA responded asking for names of the people who had not been contacted. We have yet to hear back from SP+.

Private companies could shell out billions for new express lanes on GA 400
Over the next couple of weeks, parts of GA 400 will see occasional lane and shoulder closures as the Georgia Department of Transportation sets the stage for future construction on express lanes. The new express lanes, which Channel 2 Action News first told you about in August, will run 16 miles from the North Springs MARTA station into Forsyth County. Two lanes in each direction will run from the North Springs MARTA station to McGinnis Ferry Road, and one lane in each direction will run from McGinnis Ferry to just north of McFarland Parkway. But GDOT tells Channel 2's Michael Doudna says any closures you see in that area for now are part of its planning stages. Some single lanes have been closed nightly for the last week as workers do Geotech work to plan ahead. Under the current plan, private companies would cover the $4.6 billion construction cost, pay $4 billion to the state and cover maintenance. In exchange, they would get 50 years of the Peach Pass user fees for those lanes. 'When motorists choose to use the express lane system, then it frees up space in the managed lanes, so it frees up space for all users,' GDOT spokesperson Natalie Dale said. If private companies shell out $8.6 billion for construction and payments to the state, they'll need to get $172 million a year for each of the 50 years they would get Peach Pass fees to recoup their money. Upcoming paving project to affect several roads in downtown St. Augustine
The City of St. Augustine plans to begin a road project this month that will disrupt parking and potentially cause traffic delays. Beginning the week of June 23, a contractor will begin milling, resurfacing, and striping on several streets downtown. Jacksonville man dies in Northside car wreck
A 33-year-old Jacksonville man is dead after crashing the car he was driving Wednesday morning. The wreck occurred at about 3:53 a.m. at Interstate 295 and Alta Drive, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The driver was traveling northbound on I-295 approaching Alta Drive in Jacksonville when he took the Alta Drive exit ramp and his car left the roadway and crashed into a tree, FHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.
