Aimee Betro, 45, was allegedly involved in a plot that saw Aslat Mahumad threatened with a firearm that jammed in South Yardley, Birmingham, a court heard.

The American denies conspiracy to murder, the possession of a firearm with intent and the illegal importation of ammunition, Birmingham Crown Court was told.
Betro allegedly flew in from Wisconsin in the United States as part of the plot, the court heard.
She is accused of conspiring with Mohammed Nazir, 31, and his father Mohammed Aslam, 56, to murder Aslat and members of his family between August 21 and September 10 2019.
Tom Walkling KC, for the prosecution, said the botched assassination attempt was the culmination of a long-running 'vendetta' involving the family of Aslat.

The prosecution claimed that Betro, having bought a Mercedes earlier that day, lay in wait in the vehicle outside Aslat's family home in Measham Grove, Birmingham.
Birmingham Crown Court was shown CCTV footage of an incident in South Yardley in September 2019.
Sikander Ali, Aslat's son, was caught on camera arriving home in his black SUV.
The video then shows a person wearing a face covering, who the prosecution said was Betro, pulling out a firearm and approaching Ali before the gun jammed at point-blank range.
Ali then quickly reversed his SUV off the road, clipping the door of the Mercedes and damaging it so it would not close.
After the botched assassination attempt, Betro allegedly returned to the property in a taxi and fired three times at the house, smashing several windows.
Mr Walkling added: "On the seventh of September 2019 in a suburban cul de sac in South Yardley a would-be assassin tried to shoot a man called Sikander Ali at close range outside his house.
"The assassin was a woman who tried to disguise her appearance by wearing a niqab - a face covering - and what looked like a burka."

The firearms offence is alleged to have been committed on September 8 2019, while the ammunition smuggling charge relates to a period between September 12 and October 23, 2019.
She later dumped the Mercedes and police found a black glove with Betro's DNA inside, the court heard.
"Further proof if any was needed ... that she was the gunwoman in the burka," Mr Walkling claimed.
Six minutes later she was again caught on CCTV shown to the jury from close to where the car was dumped wearing a summer dress, hoodie and flip flops and carrying two bags.
Mr Walkling added that 'revenge was the motive' after Nazir and Aslam were injured during a disorder at Aslat's clothing boutique in Birmingham in July 2018, which led them to conspire to have someone kill him or a member of his family.
Betro was extradited from Armenia and arrested at Gatwick Airport earlier this year by National Crime Agency officers, the jury was told.
Betro's two co-conspirators, Mohammed Nazir and his father, Mohammed Aslam both from Derby, were convicted and jailed last year.
Both were convicted of conspiracy to murder while Nazir was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Betro, appeared in the dock on Monday wearing black glasses, a maroon top and a colourful beach shirt with bright pink Converse trainers.
The American, whose hair was styled in two "pace buns" on top of her head, denies all charges against her.
Betro is also accused of sending a text to Ali's father which said: 'Where are you hiding? … Stop playing hide and seek' and 'Come and meet me, I'm at Asda,' the court was told.
Mr Walkling said: 'This case is about three incidents. An attempted shooting of a man outside his home, the shooting of bullets through the windows of that home, and the posting of illegal bullets from the USA to the UK."
Mr Walkling said Betro was in contact with Nazir before she flew to Manchester Airport in August 2019.
He said Betro had two phones - a normal "day to day" phone which she used regularly - and a "dirty phone" - bought before the shooting.
Jurors were told that on August Betro also went to Birmingham and hired a Mercedes C Class car from Enterprise at Birmingham Airport.
The car was later involved in a three car collision in Derby with Mohammed Nazir and another woman.
Both later received insurance payouts, the court heard.
She then stayed at a hotel in Derby for two nights before travelling to London and Brighton before returning to Birmingham and then back to Derby.
The court was played a video clip - from Nazir's phone - showing a gun being fired into the ground three days before the attempted shooting in Birmingham which prosecutors said was a bid to "test" the weapon.
The trial is expected to last four weeks.

Watch moment asylum seeker pulls the middle finger & flicks cigarette at protesters outside £200 a night migrant hotel

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the moment an asylum seeker flips the bird at protesters as he is escorted by a policeman into a £200 a night migrant hotel. The man also flicked a cigarette towards the 40-person group of shouting anti-migrant protesters as tensions flared outside The Chine Hotel in Boscombe, Bournemouth. As a young man is escorted by a police officer towards the seaside hotel, an anti-migrant protester is heard shouting: "Where are you from mate?" The migrant then flicks a cigarette towards the group before shouting back at them. Adding fuel to the fire, another protester can be heard asking him: "Were you running from a war?" The man stops before turning to give the crowd the middle finger. The Chine is one of three hotels in Bournemouth that are used to house asylum seekers and thereby closed to the public. The late 19th century hotel - visited by celebrities like Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy and Dame Vera Lynn - is known for its sea views. It has 88 rooms that showcase views of the sea or the landscaped gardens, along with indoor swimming pool and spa facilities. The honeymoon suite is said to cost £200 a night. The protest saw anti-migrant protesters passionately waving their Union Jack flags and playing patriotic songs like 'Three Lions' and 'Rule Britannia' on a loudspeaker. Watch moment migrant boat arrives on Spain hols beach before they are chased & tackled by angry locals A group from Stand Up To Racism, supported by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, showed up to form a counter-protest. They held up placards, reading: 'Refugees Welcome, Stop The Far Right'. Dozens of police officers created a barrier between the two groups as things became heated. Though one anti-immigration protester squared up to a police officer, no arrests were made during the three-hour protest. It comes as mothers and children dressed in pink protested outside Britain's most controversial migrant hotel on Saturday - before masked yobs hijacked the event and clashed with police. Demonstrators chanting 'Save our kids and women' shut down a busy road outside the four-star Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf, East London. They were among 200 anti-migrant protesters waving flags, including a giant St George's Cross, and calling for an end to small boat crossings. On Sunday, the Met Police issued a Section 42 dispersal order banning some demonstrators from gathering outside the hotel for 28 days. 5 Anti-migrant protesters shouting at asylum seekers entering a hotel as police officers intervene on Monday Credit: BNPS

Scots whisky firm director who slapped wife & said ‘I hope you die' dodges jail over horrendous domestic abuse

VILE ABUSE Scots whisky firm director who slapped wife & said 'I hope you die' dodges jail over horrendous domestic abuse Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SHAMED ex-director of a Scots whisky firm who terrorised his wife was today ordered to 250 hours of unpaid work. Christopher Leggat, 44, verbally and violently abused Cara Leggat, 42, between September 2022 and November 2024. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 A trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court heard about his campaign of abuse Credit: PA:Press Association Leggat was the former managing director of Cara's family's company Douglas Laing & Co based in the Glasgow's Hillington. Leggat made current managing director Cara's life hell as their now 12-year marriage broke down. He repeatedly slapped his estranged partner and later pushed her into a kitchen cabinet which caused her an injury. Leggat wished his wife dead notably after he was unhappy about a water bottle he received as a birthday present. He also attempted to stop Cara from seeing her dad - company chairman Fred Laing and mum Catherine Laing, both 74. Brave Cara finally reported matters to the police having initially been scared that a conviction would affect Leggat's job prospects. Unemployed Leggat was found guilty in June of engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive to his partner or ex-partner. Sheriff Allan McKay told him at today's sentencing: "On some level these are an incredibly sad set of circumstances. "This offer of a community payback order is a direct alternative to custody. "If you breach it and don't see it through, you will find yourself going to prison." Moment cops 'pelted with eggs & stones' as hundreds of protesters gather in Scots street A four-month non-harassment order was also granted prohibiting Leggat's contact with Cara. The Glasgow Sheriff Court trial heard that Leggat and Cara were married in 2013 and worked together at the firm. Cara stated to the court that between September and November 2022 was "the worst time of my life" and took a panic attack. She recalled that in October 2022 she had made a re-heated sausage casserole dinner for the pair. Leggat told her to serve a "better looking meal" which he said was suitable for a child and called her names. Leggat told wife 'I hope you die in your sleep' The next incident took place in January 2023 as a result of Leggat's birthday plans. She said: "He was most aggrieved and disappointed at a lack of effort to mark his birthday in terms of a meal out. "He also didn't rate his presents which included a sports water bottle that I bought him." The water bottle - said to have been made famous on TikTok - was deemed "childish and ridiculous" by Leggat. Leggat is then told Cara: "I hope you die in your sleep." How you can get help Women's Aid has this advice for victims and their families: Always keep your phone nearby. Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women's Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine. If you are in danger, call 999. Familiarise yourself with the Silent Solution, reporting abuse without speaking down the phone, instead dialing '55'. Always keep some money on you, including change for a pay phone or bus fare. If you suspect your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a lower-risk area of the house – for example, where there is a way out and access to a telephone. Avoid the kitchen and garage, where there are likely to be knives or other weapons. Avoid rooms where you might become trapped, such as the bathroom, or where you might be shut into a cupboard or other small space. If you are a victim of domestic abuse, SupportLine is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm on 01708 765200. The charity's email support service is open weekdays and weekends during the crisis – messageinfo@ Women's Aid provides a live chat service - available weekdays from 8am-6pm and weekends 10am-6pm. You can also call the freephone 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. The witness added that Leggat apologised to her for the remark and claimed it was "a bit of banter." The pair were given hospitality tickets to Hampden Park in February 2023 for an Old Firm League Cup Final clash. Cara stated that when they walked home after the match and she was pushed into a bush by Leggat She said: "I ended up in a bush or my back against a bush as a result of the force as a result of the slap to my face." When asked how she felt about the incident, Cara replied that it was "upsetting." Leggat "discouraged" Cara to see her parents which also included a curfew which made her "twitch" when it was close. "I ended up in a bush or my back against a bush as a result of the force as a result of the slap to my face." Prosecutor Siobhan Currie said in her closing submissions: "Ultimately, there was a pattern of behaviour to isolate her." Leggat was lastly violent towards her in November 2024 at the family home in the city's Pollokshields. Leggat slapped her on the forehead and pushed her into a kitchen cabinet which resulted in a thigh injury. Cara told the court that she called her mother and father after the incident and Fred attended their home. The court heard that Fred confronted Leggat and "grabbed him by the scruff of the neck." Fred then got his daughter to contact the police which led to Leggat's arrest later that night. Miss Currie asked Cara why she did not contact the police on an earlier occasion. She replied: "I knew he wanted to stay in the Scottish whisky industry. "From my knowledge he would find it hard to get into the USA and Singapore which are key places in the industry. "I didn't want the man not to get an international job." Leggat, now of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, told the court in his evidence that he left the company in 2023 with Cara taking over his role. Duncan McPhie, defending, told the sentencing: "My client admits, accepts and regrets the behaviour. "He is remorseful and regretful and he is sorry. "In all the circumstances, he tenders his apologies to the court. "It is probably too late to apologise to his victim, but he has asked me to apologise the behaviour he was convicted of."

Fox News slams Keir Starmer's leadership in UK as they issue urgent 'Big Brother is watching' alert

A Fox News correspondent compared the UK to George Orwell's novel 1984 as they said "Big Brother is Watching" Fox News has aired an urgent alert in a mortifying dig at Keir Starmer's leadership. The American news channel caused some controversy when they declared "Big Brother is Watching" on Sunday night's Fox Business show, The Bottom Line. ‌ This is a reference to George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984, where the Ministry of Truth is a government agency responsible for propaganda, historical revisionism, and manipulating information to align with the Party's narrative. The Fox News anchor declared: "1984 called and it wants its Ministry of Truth back. ‌ "The UK has created an elite police unit known as The National Intelligence Investigations Team dedicated to monitoring anti-migrant social media posts. Leaders claim its purpose is to detect early signs of potential unrest." ‌ The channel then showed images of ongoing protests in Epping as tensions rise over migrants being housed in hotels within the area, the Express reports. The report comes amid increased worries surrounding free speech and growing disorder in the UK. ‌ An elite team of police officers are set to watch over social media for anti-migrant sentiment amid fears of summer riots. ‌ Detectives will be taken from forces across the country to team up in a new investigation that will identify early signs of potential civil unrest. During Donald Trump's visit to the UK last week, Keir Starmer assured the press that we have had "free speech here for a very long time and we're very proud of that". The Fox News correspondents were joined by Public News Founder Michael Shellenberger. ‌ Host Guy Benson said: "Michael, it's true that the UK and the West has a fairly robust tradition when it comes to free speech but i'm not so sure that's true anymore. "There is story after story about people being thrown behind bars in the UK - even for tweets they have deleted with longer prison sentences than people who have committed actual physical violent crimes." ‌ Michael replied: "It's an incredible story. There is a woman that has been in prison for 31 months which is four months longer than a child rapist. All she did was have a tweet up for four hours that she ended up taking down. "This is a sweeping crackdown on free speech in Great Britain. We have not seen anything like this for hundreds of years. Keep in mind they were arresting 30 people a day for wrong speech in Britain before this. "Now, they have a special police task force to constantly monitor social media including X formerly Twitter and they can stop content based on age verification." ‌ ‌ He added: "They are not going to allow people to criticise mass immigration. They're going to call it Islamphobia. A hate crime and prevent it. George Orwell perfectly predicted this in 1984 when he wrote his book in the mid 40s." Michael went on to explain that as the UK continues to increase social media surveillance it is effectively taking place worldwide including within the EU and the US. He explained: "It's happening everywhere and has accelerated since Trump was elected. So it's the EU, it's Britain, it's Ireland - they want to read your private text messages. Canada, Brazil - the strategy here is to make it so the social media companies will censor this content for everybody." ‌ Michael also alleged the heavy censorship that has been politicised due to the growing support of right-wing parties. Further protests have erupted across the UK as migrants are relocated to more affluent London areas. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Men, thought to be asylum seekers, were captured on film entering the hotel from a bus in the early hours of Saturday, clutching what appeared to be brown envelopes and dressed in similar attire. A representative for Tower Hamlets Council has earlier verified that the Britannia Hotel is set to "provide temporary accommodation for asylum seekers".
