Absolom, 46, previously played Matthew Rose in BBC soap EastEnders from 1997 to 2000.
But he is now set to make the switch to rival soap Emmerdale where he will play the role of Ray, an old contact of of Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
ITV said Ray will arrive at the farm claiming to be selling farm machinery, but it is not long before his true drug-dealing ways become clear.
The broadcaster added Absolom's character will have a 'calm and collected exterior' with a hidden 'menacing streak'.
Speaking about his new role, Absolom said: "Well, what an honour to join such a talented team at Emmerdale.
"It's an iconic show and I'm grateful to be part of it. I can't wait to see what's in stock for Ray.'

"It's fantastic to have such a high-calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team to play the role of Ray.
'Charming, charismatic and effortlessly likeable, Ray is an extremely complex character who very quickly shows his dark and villainous side to some of our most loved villagers, leaving them in no doubt as to what he's capable of.'
Absolom has also appeared on various other TV shows throughout his career, including ITV's Doc Martin (as Al Large) and Code of Silence (Braden Moore).
News of the EastEnders star joining the soap comes after ITV announced it would be airing its first-ever Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover episode.

‘Beloved' Race Across The World star Sam Gardiner dies after car crash

A star of BBC adventure series Race Across The World has died after a car crash. Sam Gardiner competed in the global travel competition's second series with his mother, who said she was devastated by his death. The 24-year-old was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R estate when it came off the road and rolled before landing on its side. The accident happened on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle on Monday night and he died on Thursday from his injuries, his family said. The landscape gardener had been working on an isolated estate on the west coast of Scotland and was home in Manchester for a family gathering. Mr Gardiner featured in the BBC competition with mum Jo Gardiner, broadcast in March 2020, which saw the pair enjoy adventures across Mexico and Argentina. In a statement, Mrs Gardiner and his father Andrew said: 'We are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Sam in a terrible accident. 'Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special. 'Sam was adored by his family. As a son, brother and nephew, he was loyal, funny and fiercely protective. 'He did Race Across The World in 2019, which opened his eyes to the wonder of adventure and travel. 'He was willing to go wherever the trail might lead and he touched everyone he met on the road. He found great happiness working as a landscape gardener on the west coast of Scotland.' — Race Across The World (@RATW_official) June 1, 2025 He added: 'Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts. 'We will miss him endlessly, but we'll also remember him with smiles, tall tales and a depth of love that will never fade.' A police spokesperson said: 'We sadly must confirm that the driver of a white VW Golf R estate involved in a single vehicle collision on Monday 26 May on the A34 in Gatley has since passed away from his injuries. 'The driver, a 24-year-old man, has been named as Sam Gardiner. 'His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. 'Emergency services attended the scene after a vehicle was reported to have left the carriageway and rolled before landing on its side.' ⭐Meet the teams⭐ Jo & Sam, mother and son from Manchester! 'Everyone who worked with him and indeed everyone who watched Sam could see just how precious and transformative the trip was for both him and his mum, Jo. 'Sam embraced the seven-week trip with an energy, love and a determination that saw the pair enjoy adventures across Mexico to Argentina, making audiences fall in love with them and their special bond as a result. Chris Hughes causes a stir with topless photo in bed with JoJo Siwa

Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa have caused quite a stir with their latest selfie. The Celebrity Big Brother co-stars have only grown closer upon leaving the ITV abode, having pretty much confirmed that they are more than friends, whether it be with their cosy Insta pics or JoJo's declarations on stage at her gigs. But for those who were still in doubt about the nature of their relationship, it looks like Chris has made it crystal clear where they stand. Taking to Snapchat this weekend, the 32-year-old Love Islander uploaded a snap of JoJo, 22, sleeping on his bare chest. The Dance Moms alum rested her hand on his body while snuggled up into his side, with Chris planting a sweet kiss on her head. 'Sleepinnn beauty', he added as a caption. Naturally, it didn't take long for the selfie to circulate, with fans on X stunned at the bold and unexpected PDA. 'Anyone doubting Chris and JoJo's relationship after this today is kidding themselves', joked @slinehan1. 'I'm litrally not ok after seeing this', added @Cat_J_Parry upon seeing the pic. 'They just TOO cute!! [sic]' 'Way too invested in JoJo & Chris and honestly I'm sound with it. Love their love', wrote @SophieScribbles. @demilea_c also laughed: 'Never did I think I'd see Chris Hughes from Love Island posting pictures in bed with JoJo Siwa from dance moms. what a surreal couple of months it's been'. 'I'm here for it though! As surprising as it is, they make a lovely couple and I'm OBSESSED!', replied @emmiestones. JoJo told the Channel 4 show: 'She (her mother) does love him. My parents think the absolute world of him, and him and my dad are like best friends. 'Chris was actually telling me that yesterday they went to the spa together. They're literally best friends. 'Mum, she absolutely adores him. I love watching her watch us because I've never seen my mum so happy.' 'It feels like we're a family,' she added. 'It feels like he's been in my family for however many years. It feels like they just all get along as well as I do.' On whether the American star has plans to stay in the UK, she said: 'I think there will definitely be a lot more time spent here, and I think from him as well, a lot more time spent over there, but we both have families, you know, on either end.' JoJo, who came third in CBB, while Chris finished sixth, was also asked about her time on the reality programme. On deciding to sign up for the second showbiz edition since ITV's reboot, she explained: 'I didn't even question a yes or no. I knew it wasn't even a question. It was an immediate yes. 'I think, for me, growing up on reality TV, it almost feels like a little bit of home to me, and it just feels like it's just fun. 'And right before I went in, I told my mum, I was like, 'I think this is gonna be the best thing I've ever done.' And she's like, 'What do you mean?' And I was like, 'I don't know, something tells me, like for my personal, like for my life, it feels like it's gonna be the best thing I've ever done,' and by a landslide, it has been. 'Being on Big Brother, you're captured 24/7, so for people to just get to see the real me was something that I wasn't sure how to share; essentially on my own, I guess I wasn't brave enough to share it.' More Trending The sports presenter, who has previously dated Olivia Attwood and Jesy Nelson, was also asked about their blossoming connection by Access Hollywood presenters Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover last month. 'I would struggle to describe it,' he admitted. If you want adjectives, I'd go for…', at which point he began to stutter and became uncomfortable before laughing it off. 'Oh… why am I speechless? What is going on? God,' Chris smiled. Got a story?
