CM committed to farmers' welfare: Minister Savitha
Pedaballi: Andhra Pradesh BC Handloom Welfare Minister S Savitha praised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as a true supporter of farmers, reiterating his government's commitment to their welfare.
She made these remarks during a seed groundnut distribution program held at Pedapalli village in Puttaparthi mandal, organized under the aegis of the District Agriculture Department. Minister Savitha, along with local MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, participated in the event as chief guests.
Addressing the gathering, the minister stated that under the leadership of Naidu, the coalition government is ensuring timely distribution of quality groundnut seed pods to farmers at subsidized rates for the Kharif season.
She emphasized that this government genuinely seeks the well-being of farmers. As part of the pre-poll promises, Minister Savitha announced that the first installment of 9,000 (7,000 from the state and 2,000 from the center) under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme will be credited directly to farmers' accounts on June 21.
She also revealed that from August 15, women across the state will benefit from free travel in RTC buses. Highlighting the ongoing development activities, the minister said that projects such as Polavaram, Amaravati capital construction, and CC roads in every village are being actively pursued under the present administration.
MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy echoed similar sentiments, stating that the coalition government under Naidu should be remembered as a farmer-friendly administration.
She criticized the previous YSRCP government for neglecting farmer welfare and recalled that the TDP-led government from 2014 to 2019 sanctioned approximately 1,400 crore for agricultural equipment.
In her address, MLA Sindhura Reddy encouraged farmers to adopt modern technologies and hailed CM Naidu as a visionary leader. She added that out of 14,000 acres of cultivated land in the district, about 12,000 acres have received government-supported drip irrigation systems, further proving the government's dedication to farmers. During the event, groundnut seed bags were distributed by Minister Savitha and MLA Sindhura Reddy to local farmers.

‘Leveraging power of technology': Modi reflects on India's digital progress in last 11 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reflected on the country's progress in technology and digital public infrastructure over the past decade as the BJP-led government marked 11 years in office last month, and credited the role of young Indians in shaping and driving many of these changes. 'Leveraging the power of technology has brought innumerable benefits for people. Service delivery and transparency have been greatly boosted. Furthermore, technology has become a means of empowering the lives of the poorest of poor,' PM Modi said in a post on X. The Prime Minister also shared a post by the IT ministry-led MyGovIndia, summarising key digital developments over the past decade. Titled 'Tech it to the top', the post highlighted, among other things, a 2,500-fold increase in Unified Payment Interface (UPI) transaction volumes over the past eight years, and its expansion to over seven countries, including a recent entry into Europe via France. According to the recent National Statistical Office's Comprehensive Modular Survey: Telecom 2025, nearly 99.5% of Indians aged 15-29, who can make online banking transactions, said they are capable of using UPI for digital payments. In a separate post, the Centre shared updates on its Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, which it said helped transfer over ₹44 lakh crore across 322 schemes and saved ₹3.48 lakh crore by cutting out leakages. The scale-up of Aadhaar, now used by over 1.4 billion people, was also presented as a pillar of digital governance. The post also touched upon India's innovations in the drone sector, mentioning how it has empowered rural women in initiatives like 'Drone Didis' to strategic deployments in Operation Sindoor. 'Our self-reliance is soaring with 550+ Indian drone companies emerging, and 14,000+ SwaYaan beneficiaries ready to fly,' the post read. In the field of artificial intelligence, the government said it has supported the development of AI Centres of Excellence and AI tools such as Chitralekha (an open-source video transcreation platform) and Everest 1.0 (a multilingual AI model developed under the Hanooman project). The government also lauded the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), a ₹1.55-lakh-crore production-PLI scheme aimed at attracting investment and promoting local chip design. The mission, launched by the IT ministry in 2021, has so far approved six semiconductor units across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Assam, with many more to be announced soon. In the space sector, ISRO's launch of 393 foreign satellites was cited as a marker of progress, along with a proposed goal of setting up a Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) by 2035. Finally, the government noted that its digital literacy campaign in rural areas, PMGDISHA, had trained over 6.3 crore individuals achieving its targets ahead of schedule. The campaign comes as part of a broader effort by the government to showcase achievements across sectors, as it completes over a decade in office since PM Modi took over on May 26, 2014.

India scuppered 200,000 cyberattacks during Operation Sindoor: Khattar
India foiled around two lakh cyberattacks targeting its power infrastructure in over the week during the Operation Sindoor, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said here on Thursday. "Since the advancement in technology, new dangers have emerged -- cyberattacks or cybercrimes. There has been an increase in these, but the government has worked on it, and our cybersecurity has almost stopped all such dangers," Khattar told reporters here. He was addressing a press conference on the completion of 11 years of the BJP-led Central government. "There have been many cyberattacks on the country. As far as the Power department is concerned, around two lakh cyberattacks were attempted, but our cyber department foiled each one of them, and there were no losses," the minister said. Khattar said these attempts were made in "eight to ten days" around the time Operation Sindoor went underway. Asked whether the attacks were made from within the country or outside it, the minister said these attacks can take place from any corner of the world. "It is known worldwide that those against us will do things like these, but We have stopped such attacks. Our system is capable and in the future also, we will foil all such attacks," he said. "When someone fails for the first time, and second time, he will ultimately get discouraged and stop," he added.

Karnataka protests ‘ban' on its Totapuri mangoes entering AP, Naidu govt says ‘rescue your own farmers'
The Andhra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu trijunction—Chittoor, Kolar and Krishnagiri districts, close to Bengaluru—is a famous belt for cultivation of Totapuri mangoes, known for its sweet-tangy pulp and widely exported and used domestically in packaged fruit juices, jams and other products. In response, Andhra Pradesh has urged Karnataka to rush to the rescue of its mango farmers, instead of faulting AP for financially aiding and safeguarding the interests of its local farmers. Hyderabad: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has invoked cooperative federalism to ask his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to lift a ban on the entry of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district. Naidu's assembly constituency, Kuppam, lies in this belt, and with many farmers into Totapuri cultivation, it is an electoral issue for him as an MLA too. A large number of pulp extraction and processing units are located in AP's Chittoor, making it a hub for Totapuri farmers from the two neighbouring states who take large volumes of produce there for hassle-free sale every year. This season is different, Andhra Pradesh officials say, because of a bumper Totapuri harvest. In his letter to Naidu, dated Wednesday, Siddaramaiah expressed 'deep concern over an order reportedly issued by the Chittoor Collector 7 June, imposing a ban on the entry of Totapuri mangoes from other states into the district'. The Karnataka CM called it an 'abrupt and unilateral move causing considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka', particularly those in the border regions cultivating Totapuri in substantial quantities. 'These farmers have long relied on the robust linkages with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce. The current restriction has disrupted this well-established supply chain and threatens significant post-harvest losses, directly impacting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers,' said Siddaramaiah. The Karnataka CM went on to invoke the 'cooperative federalism spirit', while cautioning Andhra Pradesh against 'avoidable tension and retaliatory measures.' 'Actions of this nature, taken without prior consultation or coordination, run contrary to the spirit of cooperative federalism. I am also concerned that this may lead to avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, with stakeholders already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the inter-State movement of vegetables and other agricultural commodities.' The region is also famous for vegetable cultivation, especially tomatoes. On Wednesday, mango farmers in Srinivaspur, a major Totapuri hub in Karnataka's Kolar district, abutting Chittoor, staged protests and observed a taluk bandh, demanding a support price for mangoes and withdrawal of the ban imposed by Andhra Pradesh. Urging Naidu to treat the issue with the seriousness it warrants, Siddaramaiah asked him to take swift steps 'to restore the seamless movement of agricultural produce in the interest of farmer welfare.' Earlier, Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh wrote a similarly worded letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand. Vijayanand did not respond to ThePrint's messages or calls. This report will be updated if and when he responds. However, a highly placed source in the Andhra Pradesh CMO told ThePrint that Andhra Pradesh is only safeguarding the interests of its farmers with higher supplies and low remuneration for Totapuri this year. Every year, the Andhra Pradesh government announces a fair price for Totapuri mangoes at which the processors i.e., private sector players, have to purchase from local farmers. The price set this year was Rs 8 per kg, he said. However, given the low price and higher supplies, the Naidu administration agreed to supplement the price by Rs 4 per kg, taking the farmers' realisation to a reasonable Rs 12 per kg. The source added that Andhra Pradesh would be spending Rs 220 crore on this price augmentation, with an estimated procurement of 5.5 lakh tonnes of Totapuris locally this year. 'On the other side, Karnataka has apparently done nothing to aid its farmers, which is why their farmers are willing to sell their produce to Chittoor processors at even Rs 5 per kg. If the AP government allows Karnataka mangoes to come in, processors would obviously prefer to buy that produce and AP farmers would suffer despite our moving in time to aid them financially,' said the source. 'It will become a major crisis for mango farmers, with the potential to become a major law and order issue for us too,' the source added, pointing to the Karnataka chief minister's references to 'avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, disrupting the inter-state movement of vegetables and other agricultural commodities'. 'We did what is best for our farmers and Karnataka should follow suit, to ensure minimum viability for their farmers instead of dropping terms like cooperative federalism.' Both CM Siddaramaiah and CS Rajneesh said that multidisciplinary enforcement teams comprising revenue, police, forest and marketing department officials have been deployed at inter-state check-posts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to implement the Chittoor collector's directive. Chittoor collector Sumit Kumar told ThePrint there was no formal ban imposed on the inward movement of Totapuris.
