China-based EV company NIO Inc. NIO is slated to release fourth-quarter 2024 results on March 21, before the opening bell. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the to-be-reported quarter is pegged at a loss of 42 cents a share on revenues of $2.85 billion.The loss estimate for the fourth quarter of 2024 has widened by 2 cents a share over the past 60 days. However, the bottom-line projection indicates an improvement from a loss of 45 cents reported in the year-ago period. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for quarterly revenues suggests year-over-year growth of 18.3%.

For 2025, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for NIO's revenues is pegged at $14.2 billion, implying a rise of 46.3% year over year. The consensus mark for the 2024 bottom line is pegged at a loss of $1.03 per share, indicating an improvement from a projected loss of $1.43 in 2024. In the trailing four quarters, NIO surpassed EPS estimates twice for as many misses, with the average earnings surprise being 2.31%.

For the three months ended Dec. 31, NIO delivered 72,689 vehicles, up 45.2% year over year. This figure also reflects a rise from 61,855 units delivered in the third quarter of 2024. The fourth-quarter deliveries set a new quarterly record for the company, within its projected range of 72,000-75,000 vehicles.
NIO has expanded beyond its luxury lineup with the launch of a more affordable ONVO brand. In September, deliveries of L60 — ONVO's first product — commenced. In the fourth quarter of 2024, 19,929 L60 units were sold. L60 is cheaper than EV giant Tesla's TSLA Model Y in China, giving tough competition to TSLA's Model Y in the country.
Revenues for the quarter to be reported are expected to have benefited from increased deliveries. However, it is likely to have been somewhat offset by pricing pressure, thanks to stiff competition in the EV landscape.
Amid the volume ramp-up and cost optimization of components and supply chains, vehicle margins are on an upward trend. The metric grew to 9.2% in the first quarter of 2024, 12.2% in the second quarter and 13.1% in the third quarter. The trend is expected to continue in the to-be-reported quarter. Encouragingly, NIO targets a vehicle margin of around 15% for the fourth quarter of 2024.
NIO has been struggling with operational inefficiencies for several quarters. In the last reported quarter, SG&A expenses rose 13.8% year over year. This trend is likely to have continued due to higher personnel costs and increased spending on sales and marketing. High operating expenses may have hurt profit margins. Investments in battery swapping stations and store expansion could have further strained cash flow and overall finances.
On a year-to-date basis, shares of NIO have declined 12.4%, outperforming the industry but underperforming its close peers — Li Auto LI and XPeng XPEV.

NIO is expanding its presence in the EV market with a strong lineup of SUVs and sedans. The launch of the ONVO brand and the upcoming Firefly brand aim to boost deliveries further. The company expects vehicle sales in 2025 to double from the 2024 levels.
Despite its growth efforts, NIO faces challenges. Strong competition may force price cuts, impacting profitability. The company has yet to achieve a full-year profit due to high R&D and expansion costs. While it aims for higher EV sales next year, rising expenses from ONVO's expansion and pricing pressures could hurt margins. External risks, such as tariffs and trade tensions, add further uncertainty. Additionally, NIO's cash reserves are shrinking (from RMB 32.9 billion in December 2023 to RMB 23.7 billion in September 2024), raising concerns about financial flexibility.
For now, investors should closely watch whether NIO meets its vehicle margin targets and improves operating efficiency. New investors should wait for clearer signs of profitability before jumping to buy the stock. However, existing shareholders should hold their positions, as long-term growth prospects remain intact despite near-term headwinds.

Why it matters: As employers wrestle with rising health plan costs, individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements (ICHRAs) are gaining steam. Driving the news: Launched in 2020, ICHRAs were enabled by a Trump-era rule letting employers reimburse employees tax-free for individual health insurance instead of offering group plans. After a slow start, rule clarifications and compliance tools made them more accessible to midsized employers. Follow the money: Existing backers Pitango and 10D joined the round, which will be used to scale operations and improve support for employers. The Series A brings Zorro to $31.5 million total raised. The company is not yet profitable. How it works: New York City-based Zorro replaces traditional group plans with defined-contribution models. Employers set a budget; employees use Zorro's AI engine to select personalized plans, and brokers get real-time tools to compare group plans versus ICHRA-based options. Reality check: While ICHRAs are gaining traction, they remain a small fraction of the employer market. Zorro's long-term success depends on widespread broker adoption and employee trust in AI-led benefit decisions. State of play: A February Bailey's report predicted the debut of several new ICHRA startups in 2025. Several others have secured recent funding. In April, Thatch raised $40 million in Series B funding led by Index Ventures and Venteur Health Insurance raised a $20 million Series A led by Informed Ventures and American Family Ventures. The boom includes not only familiar names such as Pret a Manger and Sweetgreen, but also brands new to New York. 'Coming soon' signs just went up in the windows of 40 W. 53rd St. for Farmer J, a UK-based, health-focused chain with 11 locations in London and expanding to the U.S. for the first time. Pollo Campero, which its broker, Meridian Retail Leasing president James Famularo, called 'the Chick-fil-A of Guatemala,' was unknown here until it opened at 966 Sixth Ave. and at 714 Lexington Ave. about a year ago. Famularo also brought Springbone Kitchen, a bone broth operation, to 25 E. 51st where he represented the landlord. 3 British health-focused chain Farmer J will open its first store in the U.S. at 714 Lexington Ave Steve Cuozzo Landlords and retail brokers attribute the boom to the return of five-day office workweeks for many employees. 'A lot of this is a function of people returning five days a week, and major companies believe Midtown and the Financial District are viable again,' said Patrick A. Smith, vice chairman of retail brokerage for JLL. Five-day work schedules are crucial to casual food businesses because, Smith explained, 'They mostly have to survive on one meal a day — lunch. They can't do it on only three days a week.' Famularo agreed, saying, 'The big story is that people are back in the offices. This is after years of hearing the city will never be back to five days a week, which was the biggest impediment we found when we showed midtown spaces.' He said as a result of the fast-casual spread, 'There's basically no space available for any more between Lexington and Seventh avenues,' Soutenidkj said. Some of the new arrivals are taking over spaces that were dark for years. A bagel operation called Scoop is coming to previously vacant 7 E. 53rd St. Also new to the scene are Yumpling, a Taiwanese spot at 16 E. 52nd St.; British coffee-and-snacks chain WatchHouse, which just signed a lease at the Chrysler Building on the heels of its success at 660 Fifth Ave.; and Bagizza, a pizza-and-bagels hybrid at 424 Madison Ave. 3 Bagel shop Scoop will open at 7 E. 53rd Street. Poland's Robert Kubica sealed a deserved place in motor racing history as he took victory – alongside China's Ye Yifei and Britain's Philip Hanson – at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Hard fought with a relentless determination that has matched his refusal to be cowed after a life-threatening accident, his victory also secured an impressive third consecutive win for Ferrari at the 93rd edition of the vingt-quatre. The victory after 387 laps for the No 83 privateer Ferrari 499P, run by the Scuderia's works partner AF Corse, was the first overall win at Le Mans for drivers from Poland and China and will make Ye a household name in his home country, while for the 25-year-old Hanson it is a career high point in only his second run in the top, hypercar, category. The victory was a triumph for a driver who has fought tirelessly to continue his career after he was seriously injured in a crash at the Andora Rally in 2011, leading to the partial amputation of his forearm. It all but ended his burgeoning F1 career, when he was set to join Ferrari the following year. However, he demonstrated immense fortitude, not least in returning to racing only a year later and now sealing a win in the greatest sportscar race of them all, putting in an exhausting five stints for more than three hours in the final phase of the race. Vindication for a driver Lewis Hamilton rated as one of the most talented he had raced. It was clear that tired as he was, nothing could have stopped Kubica from closing out the race himself. 'We deserve it. Happy for Ferrari. Three years in a row with three different crews, it is amazing,' he said. 'I was not supposed to do five stints at the end of the race. It is three hours and something in the car but fortunately I was able to control everything with a cool head, no mistakes and managed to bring it home.' Advertisement Moreover it was achieved in an enormously competitive field at the Circuit de la Sarthe. The hypercar class at Le Mans is in absolutely rude health, with eight major manufacturers now competing and three more, including Ford and McLaren, likely to join by 2027. The intensity of the competition at the race was immense with the cars running at sprint race pace solidly, with only one safety car deployed and nothing in it at the sharp end. At the close the No 83 took the flag by just 14 seconds from the second-placed No 6 Porsche of Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Matt Campbell, with the Ferrari No 51 of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi in third and the No 50 Ferrari of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen fourth, all within 30 seconds of the lead after a full 24 hours. Ferrari would doubtless have preferred one of their works cars to have taken the honours and that had looked the most likely result for some time but, regardless, it was a prancing horse that won, their car once more a formidable competitor. In race pace it was indomitable, consistently leading and holding down the top three slots for long periods for their third win since they returned to the top flight at Le Mans in 2023 after a 50-year hiatus. A remarkable achievement for the Scuderia who had previously last won at La Sarthe in their heyday when they took six victories in a row between 1960 and 1965. Being Ferrari, there was of course drama too. Kubica and his colleagues had been aggrieved when Ferrari issued team orders in favour of the works cars in the mid-period of the race and doubtless felt some sense of justice when the race fell in their favour and they seized their chance. Advertisement With just under four hours remaining Pier Guidi had looked comfortable leading the three Ferraris, albeit with little to choose between them, when in a tiny but enormously costly misjudgement, he overcooked it into the chicane leading into the pit lane, clipped the kerb, spun and was left in the gravel. He was able to resume but the lead was gone and the No83 car took to the front. Yet the fight continued to the flag at unforgiving pace, the three Ferrari's hunted down by the No 6 Porsche which as the race entered the final two hours was able to move up to second place. Indeed the Porsche squad had thrown everything at the Ferraris. Having started at the very back of the hypercar field after being disqualified from qualifying for being underweight, a fired-up Estre launched an absolutely mammoth assault from the moment Roger Federer waved the tricolour to start the race on Saturday afternoon. He was decisive and committed and in a field of 21 cars, featuring works entries from Toyota, Alpine, Peugeot, Cadillac, BMW and Aston Martin, had moved up to third by the end of the second hour and was in the mix from then on. Indeed the No6 did hold the lead at times as the race ebbed and flowed against Ferrari, who ultimately just had the edge. Advertisement The Porsche duly pushed to the last, the final moments impossibly tense as the minutes inexorably counted down but appropriately it was Kubica behind the wheel to see his team home with familiarly steely resolve. In the LMP2 class the Inter Europol Competition Oreca of Tom Dillmann, Jakub Smiechowski and Nick Yelloly took the flag. The LMGT3 category was won by the Manthey Porsche of Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera and Ryan Hardwick.
