Texans' order of picks for 2026 NFL draft
The Houston Texans entered NFL draft weekend with seven picks.
They left with nine players after making a record-setting seven trades over the three-day span and picked up several draft pieces for the future.
With the 2025 draft in the past and a chance to secure a third division title, the Texans' front office can now look ahead to planning for the 2026 class.
As things stand now, Houston currently holds seven selections for the 2026 NFL draft. The Texans lost their third-round pick in a Day 3 trade to acquire USC running back Woody Marks, but retained New York's third-round pick in the trade-up for quarterback Jaxson Dart in Round 1.
Outside of that third-rounder, the Texans hold just three of their seven remaining original picks for 2026, plus a 2026 second-round pick acquired in the Laremy Tunsil deal with the Washington Commanders. With a hit tip to prosportstransactions.com, here's a look at the team's order of 2026 selections.
Texans 2026 NFL draft order of picks
Round 1 : Own pick

: New York Giants' pick Round 4 : Own pick
: Own pick Round 4: Washington's pick
Washington's pick Round 6 : Philadelphia's pick
: Philadelphia's pick Round 7: 49ers' pick
This seems to be normal in the Nick Caserio era. Most Day 3 picks are shuffled around for either players or future draft compensation to move up into Day 2. That could change, of course, by the time next April arrives because future trades can't be ruled out.
The Texans have already made a trade involving 2027 with the Cleveland Browns, though it was only for a Day 3 selection. That could (and likely will) change, but for now, the Texans hold eight picks heading into next combine showcase.

Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route

Ultimately, the Cincinnati Bengals and first-round pick Shemar Stewart are likely to resolve the contract standoff at some point this summer. But what if things go the super-rare route? There are, believe it or not, clauses written into the CBA that deal with rookies who never sign with the team that drafted them, or who want off the team that drafted them. Advertisement Stewart, as pointed out by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio and others, has roughly three options: Stewart doesn't sign and demands a trade. Teams can trade unsigned draft picks until up to 30 days before the first game of the season. Stewart signs the Tuesday after Week 10 and his case goes to arbitration to decide about his playing status. Stewart refuses to sign at all and re-enters the 2026 NFL draft, where he could be selected by any team but the Bengals. RELATED: Bengals news: Jermaine Burton buzz, practice urgency and more That third and final point is the nuclear option most fans and media seem to bring up the most. The Bengals wouldn't get compensated in that scenario at all. But it's nearly impossible Stewart would give up his massive rookie contract this year, sit out of football for a year, then potentially go undrafted in 2026 after teams likely stay away from him. For now, both sides play the staring contest. The Bengals want to insert new language into their contracts that better aligns with the rest of the NFL and have started it with Stewart. He doesn't want to be treated differently than past Bengals rookies. Hence, a standoff. Advertisement Again, Stewart will sign with the Bengals and play in 2025. But the above are the other options, including the nuclear one that drags this out until 2026. We hit 84 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

We hit 84 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now We've reached 84 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 84 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 84 Who's wearing it now: TE Qadir Ismail Ismail was signed this offseason. Receiving is in his blood as his father is former NFL wide receiver Qadry Ismail and his uncle is former Raiders WR/KR Raghib "Rocket" Ismail. Along with his hands being in his bloodlines, he stands at a towering 6-6. He showed up well in minicamp and could either sneak onto the roster or earn a spot on the practice squad. Who wore it best: WR Art Powell Back when reaching 1000 yards was a very big deal, Powell was flying by that mark every season. He played DB as a rookie in 1959. Upon switching to receiver, Powell immediately was named a first team All Pro. All told, he spent 10 years in the NFL, joining the Raiders in 1963. In his four years in Oakland, he made the Pro Bowl every season, had double digit touchdowns every season, went over 1000 yards three of them and over 1300 yards 14 games per season. Just an absolutely dominant player.

NFL insider: Panthers have interest in free-agent S Justin Simmons

NFL insider: Panthers have interest in free-agent S Justin Simmons The Carolina Panthers still might be on the prowl for a veteran safety. This past Thursday, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler joined Kincade & Salciunas on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic. Fowler was asked about the possibility of the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles adding free-agent safety Justin Simmons, and offered up another potential suitor for the two-time Pro Bowler. "Simmons is interesting, because I think coming out of Atlanta, I do think he's looking for that big scheme," he stated. "That's why the Eagles are on the shortlist there. It's Philadelphia, it's Carolina—has interest in Simmons. Ejiro Evero came from the Vic Fangio school. So that's where I think you should look for Simmons." Before becoming Carolina's defensive coordinator two years ago, Evero served in the same role for the Denver Broncos in 2022. That'd be Simmons' penultimate season in Denver, where he recorded an NFL-leading six interceptions and a career-high three forced fumbles. Simmons, who turns 32 years old in November, spent the 2024 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons. He amassed 62 combined tackles and two picks over 16 starts. Despite signing Tre'von Moehrig to a three-year, $51 million deal this spring, the Panthers could use some additional safety help. Outside of Moehrig, Carolina is carrying six other players at the position—veterans Demani Richardson and Nick Scott, 2025 fourth-round pick Lathan Ransom and undrafted rookies Isaac Gifford, Jack Henderson and Trevian Thomas. Carolina has previously expressed interest in free-agent safeties Julian Blackmon and Marcus Williams, both of whom were brought in for visits in late March.
