Saquon Barkley reveals the sources motivating his drive to succeed

USA Today13 hours ago

Eagles' All-Pro RB and reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year shares some of his primary motivations.
It's pretty impressive to walk into an NFL game, take in the atmosphere, and see the high-profile individuals who are there. Who knew? Many of the athletes, actors, and politicians we admire often find their way to a Philadelphia Eagles game to unwind and have some fun.
Maybe competition entertains competitive people. Perhaps people we admire are sometimes fans themselves, but that makes sense. Somewhere, there's an actor who wishes he could perform a reverse hurdle. Somewhere, there's a kid in the backyard, football in hand, and he or she wants to rush for 2,000 yards like Saquon Barkley.
Eagles star Saquon Barkley shares his inspiration
If Saquon Barkley never played another down for the Philadelphia Eagles, his place in this great organization's history and framework is secure. His first season with the Birds doubles as one of the most riveting in franchise history.
Saquon is a Super Bowl champion now. That can never be taken away from him. He's the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He should have been given the MVP trophy.
No disrespect is intended to Josh Allen, but somewhere deep down, he has to know that. Nothing we saw during the most recent pro football season compares to what we saw from Saquon.
How did he do it? Where does one of the greats draw his inspiration from? Recently, he provided some behind-the-scenes access while hanging out with one of the most popular people in the YouTube golf space, Grant Horvat. He credits his Christian faith, a relationship strengthened by new surroundings.
During their chat, Saquon also shared that he, too, is a fan. He revealed that he is a fan of golfing legend and 11-time PGA Tour Player of the Year, Tiger Woods. Studying one of the great athletes of an era has added to his fuel to be the best on the NFL gridiron.
"I've been trying to learn so much more about Tiger," Barkley told Grant Horvat via CBS Sports. "I had a really good season last year. But just like how dominant he was, his mentality. So in 2000, [he had an] amazing year. But 1999, he had an amazing year too, right? To be able to stack years like that. There's never been a back that's rushed for 2,000 yards twice, and definitely not back-to-back.
Tiger was the man. There's no doubt about it. If one is looking to reach the pinnacle of excellence in their field, he's a great person to look to and study. Perhaps Barkley says it best.
I think it's just the confidence. I think when you have the year like I had last year, I'm coming into this season, and to my training,it's not a fluke. I watch film. And, people talk about what I did and what I accomplished, but in my mindset, it should have been even more. When you have that confidence and you play with that swagger."
Well said Saquon. Here's to another dominant season in 2025.

Arizona Cardinals named one of NFL's most interesting teams in 2025

Bleacher Report named the eight most interesting teams in the NFL. See where the Cardinals are ranked. The Arizona Cardinals want to be relevant in 2025. They led the NFL West last season after 10 weeks but lost five of their final seven games. They made big moves on defense in the offseason. Now they hope to get over the hump and make the postseason. It should make for an interesting season, and Bleacher report agrees. Naming the eight most interesting teams in the NFL entering this season, the Cardinals come in at No. 5. Arizona Cardinals 5th most interesting team in 2025 The Cardinals doubled their win total from four in 2023 to eight in 2024 before continuing their rebuild with the addition of several potential immediate-impact defenders, including key draft picks Walter Nolen III and Will Johnson. Meanwhile, on offense, they're praying that veteran quarterback Kyler Murray stays healthy and takes another big step forward with shiny sophomore receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and revelation tight end Trey McBride. This team would still likely have its work cut out for it in tougher divisions, but the 49ers are dealing with substantial losses after a disastrous season and the Rams and Seahawks are fringe contenders at best. Arizona could easily be positioned to make a surprise run at the NFC West crown and could even be a potential playoff spoiler. And at the very least, I'd expect to see plenty of fireworks in Cards games in 2025. Here's how I see it. They were a "good" bad team in 2023 and won four games. They were the definition of mediocre last season, losing to playoff teams and beating almost everyone they faced who didn't make the postseason. They won eight games and had a bad defense and pretty good offense, albeit inconsistent. Their talent on defense is significantly better and the offense should continue to be good. If the defense is better (it will be), they will win more games. And they could have made the playoffs last year. The Cardinals will certainly be an interesting team to watch in 2025. Arizona Cardinals to face 3 of NFL's best aging veteran players in 2025

PFF named 10 outstanding aging veteran players in the NFL. The Cardinals have one and face three of them in 2025. It is said that the NFL is a young man's game. It is a league where players in their 20s thrive and few last long into their 30s. The Arizona Cardinals spent the last two seasons actively getting younger. But there are exceptions. PFF featured 10 aging veterans who are still playing at a high level. The NFC West has three of these 10 players and one other is one of the Cardinals' non-division opponents in 2025. DL Calais Campbell, Arizona Cardinals We focused on Campbell individually in another story. He will be 39 and enters his 18th season. Even in his late 30s, he has had three consecutive seasons with at least five sacks and has 14 such seasons in his career. He seems on track for the Hall of Fame despite never at any point in his career being widely considered one of the very best at his position. QB Matthew Stafford, L.A. Rams Stafford is 37 years old and his Rams squad is a potential sleeper to go all the way. If he manages to get another title, it will be hard to keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Oh, and he has really been good against the Cardinals over the last decade. He is 7-2-1 in the regular season in his last 10 regular-season starts against the Cardinals, dating back to 2017, and he beat them in the playoffs en route to his title. LT Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers Williams will turn 37 in July. He is still arguably the best tackle in the league. He dominates against the Cardinals. He made 11 straight Pro Bowls but missed last year, as he played in only 10 games. He was an All-Pro in the three seasons prior to 2024. G Kevin Zeitler, Tennessee Titans The Cardinals host the Titans in Week 5 this coming season. He is 35, and while he has only been a Pro Bowler once in his career, he has been one of the most reliable guards for years.
