Lootah Foundation contributes AED 10m to Fathers' Endowment
Saeed Ahmed Lootah Charity Foundation has announced a contribution of AED 10 million in support of the Fathers' Endowment campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and the Ruler of Dubai.
The campaign honours fathers in the UAE by establishing a sustainable endowment fund to provide treatment and healthcare for the less fortunate.
The Foundation's contribution is part of a community-wide response to the campaign, an initiative of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI). The campaign promotes the values of honouring parents, compassion, and solidarity and helps strengthen the UAE's position as a leader in charitable and humanitarian work, while further establishing the concept of charitable endowments.
The campaign also aims to strengthen the values of generosity and deep human solidarity, for which the UAE is known, and create a community-wide movement that supports its aims.
Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Saeed Ahmed Lootah Charity Foundation, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, stated that the Fathers' Endowment campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, exemplifies the UAE's ongoing commitment to humanitarian and charitable efforts, reflecting the noble values of honouring parents, compassion, and social solidarity.
'Sustainable charitable funds represent a pioneering model that ensures continued giving and strengthens the foundation of philanthropic work,' he noted.
The Fathers' Endowment campaign continues to welcome donations and contributions to the endowment fund from institutions and individuals across six main channels including the campaign's website (Fathersfund.ae), as well as a dedicated call center via the toll-free number (800 4999).

Hamdan Foundation Advances to Judging Stage of 2025 Medical Awards After Screening 330 Submissions
Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has announced the completion of the screening process for the 2025 Medical Awards, which aim to recognize outstanding achievements in healthcare at both the local and regional levels. According to the awards committee, this year's cycle received a total of 330 submissions from 18 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Iraq, India, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, the United States, Pakistan, Tunisia, Syria, and Ghana. Following an initial review, 261 submissions advanced to the administrative and technical screening stage, which involved verifying compliance with the award's eligibility criteria and guidelines. Of those, 161 applications were confirmed as eligible and are now set to proceed to the judging phase, scheduled to begin on 2 June and continue until 15 October. The judging process will be carried out by specialized committees comprising distinguished experts in the field. Each submission will be assessed according to the specific evaluation criteria established for each award category. Dr. Salama Al Muhairi, Director of Medical Excellence at Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, emphasized the significance of this stage, noting that the evaluation and screening of submissions adhere to the highest standards to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. She added that these efforts reflect the merit and credibility of the Medical Excellence Awards, which seek to spotlight innovations and achievements that contribute to the advancement of medical practices. The awards also aim to encourage and support researchers in producing impactful and innovative studies in medicine and healthcare. The Foundation is committed to sharing the benefits of award-winning work, offering it as a source of inspiration and a model for excellence in scientific and medical fields. These achievements also contribute to the development of new solutions to address growing challenges in the healthcare sector. The Medical Excellence Awards consist of two main categories. The first is dedicated to supporting health and research achievements across the Arab world and includes the Arab Award for Health Sector Research and the Arab Award for Genetic Sciences. The second category focuses on recognizing exceptional contributions within the United Arab Emirates and includes the Best Research in Healthcare Award, the Innovation in Healthcare Award, and the Hamdan Award for Distinguished Personalities. Over previous cycles, the awards have garnered wide recognition and attracted high-quality submissions from both inside and outside the UAE. UAE to apply outdoor midday work ban from June 15
The annual outdoor work ban between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. is expected to come into force on June 15 and end on September 15, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced. For the 21st consecutive year, is part of a sustainable approach implemented by the UAE to provide a safe work environment that meets best practices and occupational health and safety requirements, thus protecting workers from injuries and damages that may result from working in high temperatures during the summer months. His Excellency Mohsen Al Nasi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Compliance Sector at the Ministry, said that the midday work ban has achieved a pioneering level of compliance, reaching more than 99 per cent for consecutive years. Fines will be imposed on companies violating the policy, amounting to a minimum of AED 5,000 per worker and a maximum of AED 50,000 in the event of multiple workers. He pointed out the Ministry's keenness to educate establishments and their employees about the importance of adhering to the provisions of the "midday work ban" through field visits by inspectors, which include work sites and workers' housing- contributing to enhancing awareness of occupational health and safety requirements, and protecting workers from sunstroke and heat stress. For her part, Her Excellency Dalal Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Labor Protection Sector, pointed out that the midday work ban has become a pioneering model of partnership between the Ministry, the private sector, and members of the community, as partners develop initiatives for workers during the ban period. This reinforces the concept of social responsibility and confirms the success of the awareness-raising approach and the consolidation of humanitarian concepts in the UAE's work environment, which hosts more than 200 nationalities to live, work, and invest. This aligns with the objectives of the "We the Emirates" Vision 2031. She commended private sector establishments that have, over the past years, taken the initiative to provide fully equipped rest areas to ensure complete comfort for workers during the daily work ban. This confirms these establishments' awareness of the importance of taking measures to preserve workers' health before resuming daily work after the suspension period. She called on private sector establishments to implement such initiatives, which will positively impact workers' health and enhance their productivity. The "noontime work ban" provisions require companies to provide tools and supplies for the ban period, provide shaded areas for workers to protect them from the sun during off-duty periods or while performing licensed work, as well as provide appropriate cooling equipment such as fans, sufficient quantities of water, and hydrating materials like salts and similar products approved for use by local authorities in the country, as well as other amenities and first aid equipment in the workplace. The midday work ban provisions ensure the continuity of work in a manner that serves the public interest. They stipulate the exception of some works that require continuous work for technical reasons, such as asphalt mix laying and concrete pouring if they cannot be implemented or completed after the ban period, and works necessary to avert danger or repair faults that affect society in general, such as interruptions in water supply lines, power outages, traffic disruptions, and other faults in essential services. The exception also includes works that require a permit from a competent government authority due to their impact on traffic and public life.

UAE Launches Initiative with WHO to Combat Malnutrition in Socotra Island
The United Arab Emirates, in partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has launched a humanitarian initiative to combat rising malnutrition rates among women and children on Yemen's Socotra Island. The effort, led by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, targets one of the region's most pressing health challenges. Recent data shows the Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) rate among children under five on the island has reached 10.9%, with the Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) rate at 1.6%—figures that cross internationally recognised critical thresholds. Mohamed Haji Al Khouri, Director-General of the Foundation, said the initiative reflects the UAE's enduring commitment to humanitarian support and global health development. He emphasised the project's roots in the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the current leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Foundation, an affiliate of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, will work closely with WHO to develop evidence-based solutions to tackle nutrition-related health issues. The two-year plan includes reducing maternal and child mortality, enhancing emergency preparedness, and strengthening local healthcare systems. Dr. Ferima Coulibaly-Zerbo, Acting WHO Representative in Yemen, highlighted the importance of the partnership in addressing urgent needs and building long-term health resilience in the region. The initiative also aims to improve food security, raise awareness on nutrition and hygiene, train medical personnel, and boost disease surveillance.
