Komuniti MADANI Rolls Out Programmes Since July To Foster Patriotism, Unity
ALOR GAJAH, July 31 (Bernama) -- A series of programmes aimed at fostering patriotism and unity in conjunction with this year's National Month have been actively rolled out by the Komuniti MADANI members across Melaka since mid-July.
State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan said the initiatives involve participation from all levels of society, including school students and state constituencies.
'In Melaka, we have members of 84 Komuniti MADANI who have been actively organising various programmes and activities to enliven the National Day celebrations. These initiatives are supported through allocations channelled by the Information Department and the Ministry of Communications, ' he said.

He added that the programmes include a variety of activities such as debates, independence-themed storytelling sessions, and the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025.
'The implementation of these programmes has also been extended to government departments and private agencies in the state to encourage broader community participation in the National Month celebrations,' he said during the flag-off ceremony of the 2025 KMJG, marking its journey from Melaka to Negeri Sembilan, held here today.
He added that business premises and private shops are also encouraged to display the Jalur Gemilang as a show of patriotism and to help enliven the spirit of the National Month celebrations.
Fairul Nizam also emphasised that the initiative to fly the Jalur Gemilang, whether at government offices, private premises, or residential homes, must adhere to proper flag display etiquette.
He stressed that the national flag must be displayed in a clean and respectful condition, not worn, torn, or flown upside down, as had occurred in previous instances.
'Proper and dignified display of the Jalur Gemilang is important. It is not just our national flag; it is a symbol of our respect and love for the country.

The centre serves as a bridge to engage with the Southeast Asia region to develop an international land-sea trade corridor. It also plays a critical role in sharing Hainan's development narrative, including tourism, commercial expansion and policy reforms. Hainan Daily Press Group deputy editor-in-chief Niu Xiaomin said Malaysia was chosen because it is home to a sizeable population of Chinese descendants, particularly the Hainanese community, which has preserved deep-rooted cultural ties and continues to uphold strong traditions. He hoped the stories of Malaysian Chinese and Chinese citizens could serve as a cultural bridge, strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations while promoting mutual understanding and highlighting shared values across the region. He also said that Hainan would officially become a free trade port on Dec 18, allowing for some 74% of goods entering the island to enjoy zero-tariff benefits. "This marks a new starting point for Hainan's journey towards a higher level of openness to the outside world," he said at the launch of the HIMC–Asean Liaison Centre here on Friday (Aug 1). The event also saw the establishment of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor Asean Economic and Trade Station, and the Haifeng International Film and Television Base Asean Centre. Several agreements on media collaboration were also signed with Bernama, Nanyang Siang Pau and Kwong Wah Yit Poh to jointly produce programmes and conduct activities about Malaysia and Hainan. Partnerships were also established between HIMC and the Federation of Hainan Association Malaysia, Mila University and Lingshui Yingli Wanxiang Digital Media Industry. The HIMC–Asean Liaison Centre also serves as the Malaysia office for Guangxi International Communication Centre and the International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and TV Station. Also present were Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Kwong Wah Yit Poh executive editor-in-chief Tee Hor Yean, Nanyang Siang Pau editor-in-chief Evie Loh, the Federation of Hainan Association Malaysia president Datuk George Yong Ket How and HIMC senior advisor for Hainan-Asean international communication Dr Pua Eng Teck. Malaysia denies US exclusive rare earth deal claims, says Tengku Zafrul
KUALA LUMPUR: Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has dismissed rumours that the United States sought exclusive rights to Malaysia's rare earth products. He clarified that no such request was made during recent tariff negotiations. 'I don't know where it is coming from, because there are many speculations. But I can attest that there is no request from the US to exclusively have access to our rare earth (product),' he said at a press conference. Tengku Zafrul emphasised that Malaysia has no agreements to exclusively supply rare earths to the US or any other nation, including China or neighbouring countries. The Lynas Malaysia Advanced Materials Plant near Kuantan, operational since 2012, remains a key global rare earth processing hub outside China, serving markets in East Asia, the US, and Europe. Separately, the minister highlighted efforts to secure zero tariffs for Malaysian commodity exports like cocoa, rubber, and palm oil to the US. He noted that products the US cannot produce domestically stand a strong chance of tariff exemptions, currently set at 19 per cent. - Bernama
