Vodafone Idea shares tumbled over 11% after the Supreme Court dismissed the telecom company's writ petition seeking urgent relief on its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues, as reported by cnbctv18. The court labeled the plea as 'shocking' and 'misconceived.'
Vodafone Idea had approached the apex court last week, requesting a hearing to seek relief on AGR-related dues totaling up to ₹30,000 crore, largely comprising penalties and interest. The company warned that without further government support, the entire telecom sector could be at risk of collapse.
This development adds pressure on Vodafone Idea, which is already struggling with heavy debt and intense market competition. In a strategic move last year, the government converted a portion of the company's dues into equity, acquiring a 49% stake to stabilize operations.
Vodafone Idea shares opened at ₹7.19 and hit a high of ₹7.21 before dipping to a low of ₹6.48 today, just above the 52-week low of ₹6.47. This sharp drop contrasts sharply with its 52-week high of ₹19.18, highlighting ongoing volatility. As of 1:47 PM, the shares were trading 8.96% lower at Rs 6.71.

United Spirits shares jump 3% as Citi maintains ‘Buy' rating with target price of Rs 1,800

By Aman Shukla Published on June 5, 2025, 10:45 IST Shares of United Spirits Ltd (USL) jumped 3% after Citi reaffirmed its Buy rating on the stock with a target price of ₹1,800. As of 10:43 AM, the shares were trading 2.87% higher at Rs 1,629.50. Citi's report acknowledged that the near-term demand environment remains challenging due to ongoing market uncertainties. However, the brokerage expects premiumization trends to bounce back over the next two to three quarters, driven by shifting consumer preferences towards higher-end products. As per Citi's report, a significant boost is anticipated from the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, which the management believes will enhance export opportunities and support premiumization in key markets. This trade deal is seen as a catalyst for expanding United Spirits' international footprint and strengthening its brand presence abroad. On the regulatory front, Citi noted improvements in the policy environment that could benefit the overall alcoholic beverages sector. A more favorable regulatory framework is expected to create a supportive medium-term outlook, encouraging investment and growth in the industry. Despite the evolving demand conditions, United Spirits is committed to maintaining its EBITDA margins at current levels for the next two to three years. This focus on margin stability underscores the company's efforts to optimize costs and enhance operational efficiency.
