CF Montreal, D.C. United each score in first half of 1-1 draw
Luca Petrasso scored late in the first half to help CF Montreal extend its point streak to three matches with a 1-1 draw against visiting D.C. United on Saturday.
It's the first time this season that Montreal (4-15-8, 20 points) has earned points in three straight.
D.C. (4-15-8, 20 points) snapped a five-match losing streak but remains winless in its past 10 (0-8-2).
Petrasso pulled Montreal level in the 41st minute. Caden Clark deflected a pass attempt by D.C. defender Aaron Herrera, creating a rush with Prince Owusu. Owusu maintained possession of the ball inside the top of the box and then sent a feed to Petrasso, who put it by the right arm of goalkeeper Luis Barraza on the near side.
Jackson Hopkins gave D.C. a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. The 21-year-old kept pace with a bouncing ball high in the attacking third, catching up with it at the arc before firing a right-foot strike past the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Thomas Gillier.
Owusu appeared to put the hosts in front 2-1 in the 58th minute when Petrasso repaid the favor with a feed to the German striker deep inside the box, but the offside flag was raised, nullifying the goal.
Jared Stroud came within inches of putting D.C. back in front late in the second half, taking a pass from Herrera near the spot in the 85th minute, but his attempt rolled just wide of the left post.
D.C. had the better of the chances and spent more time in the final third early on but couldn't convert.
Montreal started to find its game as the half progressed and had one of its best chances in the 37th minute off a free kick opportunity, but Barraza dived to get his hand on the ball to punch it away. Then, seconds later, Hennadii Synchuk put one over the net.
Montreal defender Jalen Neal returned from injury as a substitute late in the second half, his first appearance since June 25.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan has issued no warnings or restrictions for mountaineering expeditions in the north, an official said Sunday, despite the recent deaths of climbers. Climbers were well aware of the harsh weather and all the other risks and challenges, said Faizullah Faraq, a spokesman for the government of Gilgit-Baltistan, the northern region home to some of the world's highest mountains. 'Despite that, they willingly accept these challenges and come here to attempt these summits.' Chinese climber Guan Jing, 37, was the latest person to perish on one of Pakistan's mountains. She died last Tuesday after being hit by falling rocks on K2, the world's second-highest peak known for its treacherous slopes and extreme weather conditions. Rescue teams recovered her body on Saturday. Her body was still in the mortuary of the Combined Military Hospital in Skardu on Sunday. Contact has been made with Chinese authorities in Islamabad, and 'now it is up to them to make further decisions in this regard,' said Faraq. Jing's death occurred several weeks after German mountaineer and Olympic gold medalist Laura Dahlmeier died while attempting Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range. Bodies of foreign climbers who die attempting to summit mountains in Pakistan are typically recovered at the request of their families. But if the family declines a rescue, the remains are left at the spot where the climber died. Faraq said authorities were trying to provide climbers with better infrastructure, rescue facilities, security and a friendly environment. Mountaineering expeditions are the backbone of the local economy, bringing in millions of dollars in direct revenue. A large number of people work on these expeditions from May to September, feeding their families for the whole year with these earnings, he added. Hundreds of climbers try to scale mountains in northern Pakistan every year. Accidents are common because of avalanches and sudden weather changes. Last August, two Russians spent six days stranded on a remote peak before they were rescued. Gilgit-Baltistan, in Kashmir, has been battered by higher-than-normal monsoon rains this year, triggering flash floods and landslides.

Rafael Navarro brace leads Rapids to victory over Atlanta United

Darren Yapi added his seventh goal -- and his fourth in his last four games -- as the Rapids (10-11-6, 36 points) earned consecutive MLS wins for the first time since May 17 and 24. The Rapids have now scored 12 goals in their last five MLS games, their highest-scoring stretch this season, while moving up one spot to seventh in the Western Conference. Alexey Miranchuk scored his sixth goal of the season for Atlanta (4-12-10, 22 points), which saw its winless run stretch to 10 matches and remained winless on the road.
