Photo: Supplied / Customs Customs officers have found $1.6 million worth of cocaine "intricately" hidden in a suitcase at Auckland Airport. Four kilos of the drug were concealed in the panels of the bag of a passenger who had arrived on a flight from Chile yesterday, Customs said. Photo: Supplied / Customs Auckland Airport chief customs officer Ben Wells said the officers had to do a very detailed search. "This one was quite an intricate concealment - its detection relied on our officers' training and tenacity. They kept looking until they found it," he said. "Organised crime uses a number of ways to attempt to smuggle narcotics into New Zealand. Our experienced officers use a range of techniques to detect concealments." If it was sold, the drug would have been worth $1,552,000 and finding it has prevented a lot of social harm and cost to New Zealand, a Customs spokesperson said. A 25 year old woman has been charged with the importation and possession of a Class A controlled drug. Man caught with several bags of stolen perfume
Photo: RNZ / REECE BAKER A man has been arrested after stolen perfume was found in his car during a routine traffic stop. The 34-year-old was stopped in Clover Park, Auckland, and his car was searched when police realised he was a wanted man. "Our staff have discovered several bags of stolen perfumes inside the vehicle," Counties Manukau East Area Prevention Manager Inspector Rakana Cook said. "It's pleasing we were able to recover some of the items stolen from these businesses." The man faces 17 charges of shoplifting and one of theft.

Literal cat burglar stealing clothes on Auckland's North Shore
Residents in an Auckland North Shore neighbourhood are being warned about a literal cat burglar nicking clothes from their washing lines. Helen North's cat Leo has brought home everything from socks and undies to a $300 designer jersey. She told Midday Report Sunday afternoons were Leo's big day because everyone had their landary out. "He brings home a lot of things. He doesn't do much with them once they are inside, he just dumps them on the floors and just goes about his business." She said her family had now nicknamed him to Leonardo da Pinchi. Her family has nicknamed Leo, Leonardo da Pinchi. Photo: Supplied But North said returning items to their rightful owners was often a difficult task. "We've got a Whatsapp group that I take photographs of everything he brings in and send them round to that group, but we can't find everything that he brings in so yesterday I put a Facebook post out... and that got hundreds and hundreds of people just saying 'that's cute'. "We did manage to get a few things given back." North said the biggest thing Leo had brought home was a 1.5 metre stuffed snake.
