"Waited 4 Hours To File Case": 15-Year-Old Bengaluru Stampede Victim's Family

The family of Divyanshi, a 15-year-old girl who died in the stampede outside Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday evening, said they had to wait nearly four hours before an FIR could be filed.
Relatives gathered at the home of the grieving family in Bengaluru's Yelahanka as the teen's body was taken for the last rites.
Her grieving father, Shivakumar, recounted how his daughter fell after being pushed at Gate Number 15. His wife and sister-in-law were also present then, he added.
"They (officials) came and visited (afterwards), but no proper support was provided. They didn't even give proper first aid. My wife said she was begging for some support. Finally, my daughter was taken in an auto, with no support from the police. Even to file an FIR, we had to wait four hours," Shivakumar said.
The girl's body has been taken to Andhra Pradesh for the last rites and cremation, he added.
He also said the government should take total responsibility.
"Why didn't they make proper arrangements? Go and see Mysore Palace Road -- for political events, they arrange everything. For this celebration, they should have had proper planning. Intelligence should have been there," he added.
Meanwhile, the body of Kamatchi Devi, a 28-year-old software engineer, who died too in the stampede, was taken to her hometown, Mayiladumparai, in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu for the last rites on Thursday.
Devi, who was working in Bengaluru, had gone to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL victory at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. She was caught in the crowd surge and died.
Her body was taken to Vivekananda School in Mayiladumparai, where relatives, friends, and local residents gathered to pay their last respects.
Late last night, after visiting the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Vydehi Super Speciality Hospital, where most of the injured were admitted, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, told the reporters gathered that the "unexpected tragedy" shouldn't have happened.
Stating that most of the victims were young, and included men and women, with several of them being students, the Chief Minister said the government has announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of each victim.
He also said the injured will be provided free treatment.

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday distanced himself from the stampede incident outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL win celebrations on June 4, blaming top police officials for the failed security arrangements. According to Mr Siddaramaiah, he was informed about the stampede much later. The Chief Minister also clarified that the government did not organise the event. "It was not a government-organised event at the stadium, and I had not been invited. Despite the victims being admitted to the hospital by 3:50 pm, I was informed of the incident only at 5:45 pm. The stampede should never have occurred. It is deeply saddening," Mr Siddaramaiah told the media. He said that the police department failed to share comprehensive information about security arrangements at the venue beforehand. "Five police officers have been suspended. The state intelligence chief and my political secretary have been transferred. The government is taking this case very seriously. Appropriate action is being taken. The government is not at fault, but the incident is undoubtedly distressing," the Chief Minister said, adding that they are treating the incident with "utmost seriousness". Eleven people died and many more were injured in a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium last week, where a large number of people had gathered to participate in the RCB victory celebrations. Since then, Siddaramaiah has been facing a barrage of criticism, with the BJP and JD(S) members calling for his resignation. Responding to this, he said, "The government has not taken any wrong steps. Action has been taken against the guilty. So, there is no reason for embarrassment. During the Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, many died due to a bridge collapse. Did their Chief Minister resign? Did BJP or JD(S) seek their resignation?" Mr Siddaramaiah also hit back at the BJP and the JD(S), accusing them of making politically motivated allegations over the stampede incident. 'Conditional permission' at Vidhan Soudha Siddaramaiah and the other leaders were present outside the Vidhan Soudha near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the day's victory march of fans ended and there, they had met the cricketers. According to officials, the police force deployed at the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru had warned against the idea of holding the RCB's celebrations at the grand stairs of the premises, and also raised concerns over the security challenges that would arise due to a shortage of staff at the state legislature's security wing. Despite this, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) had granted conditional permission, Mr Siddaramaiah said. However, no untoward incident occurred on the Vidhana Soudha premises. The stampede took place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where security arrangements by the police were found lacking. As a result, the concerned officers have been suspended," he said. A day after the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, against RCB, DNA Entertainment and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). According to the state government, DNA Entertainment managed the victory celebrations, while the KSCA organised the event.

Nepal: Corruption case filed against 18 people including telecom chief
By Shirish B Pradhan Kathmandu: Nepal's anti-graft body on Sunday filed a corruption case against 18 people including former and incumbent managing directors of the government-owned Nepal Telecom . The case was filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority ( CIAA ) at the Special Court over alleged irregularities in the contract extension for maintaining Nepal Telecom's billing system, according to CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel. Sangita Pahadi , Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Telecom, and former MD Sunil Paudel were among the 18 people against whom the case was filed. The case was filed over alleged billing irregularities in Nepal Telecom's GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) mobile, fibre internet, leased line, and wire lines due to illegal purchases and sales. "There was bad faith in the purchase of related equipment and also the misappropriation of public assets," the CIAA stated. The anti-graft body has demanded a compensation claim of Rs 334.8 million against the defendants. Investigations found that Nepal Telecom awarded a contract worth NRs. 3.15 billion to Chinese company Asia Info around two and a half years ago without following proper procedure, causing a huge loss to the state-owned telecom. How Aadhaar fudging aided Madhya Pradesh cop recruitment scam
BHOPAL: Paliganj town – 50 km from the Bihar capital – is in news nearly a thousand km away in Madhya Pradesh, thanks to one of its government school teachers, who has emerged as the key solver of an inter-state Aadhaar ID manipulation-enabled examination racket, which helped candidates from the Gwalior-Chambal region crack the 2023 MP Police Constable Recruitment Exam. Ranjan Kumar Gupta, a school teacher from Paliganj appeared in place of ten candidates, including one of the merit holders of the exam who secured 87 out of 100 marks. Besides Gupta, who is now in police custody in MP's Sheopur district, at least five more solvers from the same eastern state also appeared through the same modus operandi for dozens of other candidates in MP, in return for Rs 1 lakh to Rs 4 lakh subject to passing of the candidate. Another solver from Bihar's Gaya district, Amrendra Singh 'Bahubali' appeared for eight candidates, for Rs 1 lakh each. He is now in police custody in Alirajpur district, following the arrest of Ramrup Gurjar, the candidate from MP's Gwalior-Chambal region who managed to clear the written test by making Amrendra appear in his place and subsequently cracked the 2024 physical proficiency test on his own, to finally be selected for the constable's job.
