Digital Economy Ministry operates smart gates at QAIA soon
In a post on X, the ministry indicated that the next phase will witness the official launch of the service, adding that: "Coming soon to Queen Alia International Airport... an easier, faster, and smarter travel experience. Get ready to embark through the smart gates."
This announcement complements previous statements made by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, in May, in which he confirmed that five smart gates for arrivals and four gates for departures had been installed at Queen Alia International Airport, and that these gates were in the trial phase.
Smeirat noted that the gates are scheduled to begin operating at the end of June, and will be dedicated in their first phase to Jordanian citizens only, both arriving and departing, in a move aimed at expediting procedures and improving the travel experience through the latest digital solutions.

The focus on domestic chip compatibility may signal that DeepSeek's AI models are being positioned to work with China's emerging semiconductor ecosystem as Beijing pushes to replace U.S. technology in the face of Washington's export restrictions. DeepSeek shook the technology world this year when it released AI models that compete with Western ones like OpenAI's ChatGPT while offering lower operational costs. The upgrade to DeepSeek's V3 model follows two other recent updates to its core models - an R1 model update in May and an earlier V3 enhancement in March. For domestic chip support, DeepSeek said in a WeChat post its DeepSeek-V3.1 model's UE8M0 FP8 precision format is optimised for "soon-to-be-released next-generation domestic chips". The company did not identify which specific chip models or manufacturers would be supported. FP8, or 8-bit floating point, is a data processing format that allows AI models to operate more efficiently, using less memory while running faster than traditional methods. The DeepSeek-V3.1 features a hybrid inference structure that enables the model to operate in both reasoning and non-reasoning modes, the company said in a WeChat post on Thursday. Users can toggle between these modes using a "deep thinking" button on the company's official app and web platform, both of which now run the V3.1 version. The company will also adjust the costs for using the model's API, a platform that allows developers of other apps and web products to integrate its AI models, starting September 6, the statement showed. CEO of Aqaba Development Corporation, Hussein Safadi, affirmed that the company is working under a clear strategy to enhance Aqaba's position both locally and regionally. اضافة اعلان In radio remarks discussing the company's projects and key investment sectors, Safadi highlighted the establishment of the International Exhibition Center, which hosted several events including the SOFEX exhibition, along with entertainment and musical programs organized by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. He revealed plans to host international exhibitions next year to attract exhibition tourism, noting future projects west of King Hussein International Airport, including a heritage aircraft museum and an international racetrack covering 1,000 dunums. Safadi emphasized that the company is focused on strengthening Aqaba's regional logistics role and is working according to an investment framework that includes 6–7 projects currently undergoing feasibility studies to attract investors, while providing all necessary investment support. He noted cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy to modernize internal systems and advance the Digital City project on the southern beach, in addition to collaboration with the Crown Prince Foundation to attract the G42 School and projects in technology and artificial intelligence sectors. Safadi also pointed to initiatives supporting the local community, including upgrading Aqaba Stadium to meet Jordanian and Asian Football Federation standards, partnerships with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Tkiyet Um Ali, as well as youth programs providing employment opportunities. He highlighted specialized projects aligned with royal directives, such as establishing an international academy for underwater welding and cutting, which has already graduated 20 civilian and military students to form the nucleus of a permanent academy in this high-demand regional and international field. Safadi concluded by emphasizing that Aqaba will witness a qualitative leap over the next ten years in industrial, logistical, vocational training, tourism, and creative industry sectors.
