F1 replaces Imola with Madrid on 2026 calendar
The 24-race Formula 1 slate for 2026 features a grand prix in Madrid replacing Italy's Emilia Romagna GP at Imola.
Governing body FIA approved the calendar on Tuesday during a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.
The final race on Imola's current contract was last month, won by four-time reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
The 2026 race in Madrid, first announced in 2024, is scheduled for Sept. 13.
The season opens in Melbourne, Australia, on March 8 and runs through Dec. 6 at Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
Three races remain on the U.S. calendar: Miami (May 3), Austin, Texas (Oct. 25) and Las Vegas (Nov. 21).

Red Sox's Lucas Giolito aims for improvements vs. Marlins
(Photo credit: Bob DeChiara-Imagn Images) The Boston Red Sox, in the thick of the American League playoff hunt, will look for a bounce-back performance from right-hander Lucas Giolito when they begin a three-game series against the visiting Miami Marlins on Friday. Giolito entered his Saturday start at San Diego as one of the hottest starting pitchers in the major leagues. He was 7-1 with a 2.03 ERA in his previous 10 starts, but he ran into serious trouble in the fifth inning vs. the Padres. Boston entered the bottom of the fifth with a 3-2 lead. San Diego's Fernando Tatis Jr. led off the inning with a single before Giolito retired the next two batters. Then Giolito walked four consecutive batters, two of which forced in runs to give San Diego a 4-3 advantage. The Padres went on to win the game 5-4 in 10 innings. Although he didn't end up taking the loss, Giolito felt responsible for it. 'I know the way baseball works,' Giolito said. 'The 'L' doesn't go next to my name, but it should. That was really bad. 'I lost feel. Lost feel for my mechanics. I just couldn't make the adjustment. It's inexcusable. I truly believe that if I had just gotten out of that fifth inning, made the adjustment, then we would have won that game.' After Giolito exited the mound, Boston's bullpen held the Padres to two hits and no earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. 'We've got to trust these guys to give us 100 (pitches), at least five innings,' Boston manager Alex Cora said. 'It just didn't work. He lost it. We were one pitch away, one out away from getting out of that inning.' Giolito (8-2, 3.77 ERA) will be making his second career appearance against Miami on Friday. On June 11, 2023, he gave up a run on six hits, struck out eight and walked one in seven innings during a no-decision. Miami is scheduled to start Sandy Alcantara (6-11, 6.55 ERA). The veteran right-hander is 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA in two career starts against the Red Sox. Through two starts this month, Alcantara is 0-2 with an 8.25 ERA. The Marlins ended a four-game losing streak by winning 13-4 at Cleveland on Wednesday, but then they dropped a 9-4 decision to the Guardians on Thursday in the decisive contest of a three-game series. 'I think that we'll just come out there (in Boston) and look forward to getting a good start from Sandy (on Friday) and offensively just continue to mount innings, stress the opposition and defensively take care of the ball,' Miami manager Clayton McCullough said. 'There's not a whole lot else other than we have to try to win a few moments that we haven't won here in the last four or five days.' Miami rookie Jakob Marsee began the Thursday contest hitting .436 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and six steals in his first 13 major league games, but he went 0-for-4 in the loss. The Red Sox enter the weekend in second place in the American League East, five games behind the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston, sitting in the second of three AL wild-card positions, has 40 games remaining, 24 of which are against teams that are currently below .500.

Elks aim to 'validate' their work vs. Argonauts

Fajardo has fared well since taking over for Tre Ford under center, throwing for 892 yards and five touchdowns over the last three games. The two-time Grey Cup champion threw for 289 yards and two scores to lead the Elks (2-6) to a 23-22 victory over the Montreal Alouettes last Friday. Fajardo found fellow former Alouette Kaion Julien-Grant for a 15-yard touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The late scoring strike enabled Edmonton to notch its first win since a 39-33 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks on July 6. 'You can't rest on your laurels, right?' Fajardo said. 'Just because we win a football game, 'OK, everything's figured out.' 'Like I said, you validate the work. But that doesn't mean that I'm not going to do the extra stuff, I'm not going to do what I need to do to get that win.' The Elks will now set their sights on a Toronto defense that yielded 429 yards of offense to Ottawa in a 46-42 setback to the Redblacks on Saturday. The defending Grey Cup champion Argonauts (2-7) saw their 21-point lead in the first quarter go by the boards, much to the chagrin of head coach Ryan Dinwiddie. 'I sound like a broken record talking to them after the game,' Dinwiddie said. 'I just told them I'm not going to quit on them and I don't think those guys quit on us, but I think we have some pretenders in the building who like to talk a big game and don't show up on game day. 'If you don't love it, let me know. I know I love it and I'm not going to quit.' Nick Arbuckle completed 32 of 38 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for another score. Arbuckle, who is second in the CFL in passing yards (2,651) and passing touchdowns (16), will now take aim at an Edmonton defense that has allowed at least 28 points on six occasions this season.

Revolution waive forwards Maxi Urruti, Luis Diaz

Urruti, 34, of Argentina, contributed two goals in 20 MLS matches (five starts). He has scored 72 goals in 315 MLS matches with Toronto (2013), Portland (2013-15), Dallas (2016-18), Montreal (2019-20), Houston (2021), Austin (2022-23) and New England. He won the 2015 MLS Cup with the Timbers and the 2016 U.S. Open Cup and MLS Supporters' Shield with FC Dallas. Diaz, 26, of Costa Rica, made his MLS debut this season and registered one assist in 19 matches (one start) for the Revs. The team did not disclose a reason for the moves, which presumably have opened up roster spots for players from MLS NEXT Pro side Revolution II or the Revolution Academy. New England (7-11-7, 28 points) is in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, eight points below the playoff line.
