Halal auditors must uphold fairness and integrity, says Mohd Na'im
BANGI: The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, has stressed the need for halal auditors to perform their duties with unwavering integrity and impartiality. Speaking at the Malaysian Auditor Convention 2025, he warned that negligence or bias could damage the credibility of Islamic institutions. 'Fairness must be upheld without differentiating the position of applicants seeking halal certification. This is the role that needs to be fulfilled,' he said. He also cautioned against any form of bribery or preferential treatment, emphasising that justice must guide the auditing process. Mohd Na'im highlighted the importance of ethical conduct, urging auditors to avoid accepting gifts from companies applying for halal certification. 'Sometimes, it's not directly requested, but we make things difficult for applicants, leading them to believe auditors expect rewards. Intentions must be correct,' he added. The minister reminded the 300 JAKIM-certified auditors to uphold ethical standards to protect the institution's reputation. The convention, themed 'Halal Malaysia, A Catalyst for MADANI Economy,' saw the launch of the Halal Auditor Guidelines, a key reference for auditors. A special training course will also be conducted to deepen their understanding of the guidelines. Malaysia currently has 380 halal auditors, with 202 officially recognised as competent. – Bernama

Halal Auditors Must Be Fair And Integrity-Driven - Mohd Na'im
BANGI, July 29 (Bernama) – The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, has called on halal auditors to carry out their responsibilities with full integrity and fairness, regardless of the background or size of the company. Speaking to reporters after officiating the Malaysian Auditor Convention 2025, he emphasised the important role auditors play as the front line in ensuring compliance with halal standards. Any negligence or unfairness could tarnish the image of Islam and religious institutions. 'Fairness must be upheld without differentiating the position of applicants seeking halal certification. This is the role that needs to be fulfilled. 'I stress the issue of halal sustenance (avoiding involvement in corruption or abuse of power),' he said. He highlighted that justice should be the key principle in the auditing process, including rejecting any form of bribery or preferential treatment towards companies based on their brand or status. 'Sometimes, it's not directly requested, but we make things difficult for applicants, leading them to believe auditors expect rewards. Intentions must be correct. Do not accept any form of gifts from halal certificate applicants,' he added. He also reminded the over 300 auditors certified by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) to maintain ethical standards and protect the reputation of the institution to strengthen efforts to ensure halal sustenance. 'Never get involved in accepting any form of gift from companies seeking halal certification. I hope this principle is instilled in all 300 auditors who received certification today,' he added. The inaugural convention organised by JAKIM gathered 200 halal auditors from across the country, with the theme 'Halal Malaysia, A Catalyst for MADANI Economy.'

RM3.3 mln aid for rural communities in Gua Musang
GUA MUSANG: The government has allocated over RM3.3 million to support rural communities in Pos Brooke and Kuala Betis through the Essential Goods Distribution Programme. The initiative, running from this year until 2027, aims to provide six essential goods—white rice, white sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil, LPG, and RON95 petrol—at prices matching urban rates. Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Azman Ismail said the programme will benefit over 9,000 residents. 'This effort ensures rural consumers access basic necessities without price disparities,' he told reporters after the programme launch in Pos Brooke. Transportation costs for the goods will be fully covered by the government, with a contracted transporter delivering supplies from source points to rural sales centres. The estimated cost for Kuala Betis is RM1,185,409, while Pos Brooke's allocation exceeds RM2,187,840. Azman emphasised KPDN's commitment to improving rural livelihoods through this initiative. – Bernama
