Golden State Warriors Named Favorites to Land Timberwolves Star in Offseason
Golden State Warriors Named Favorites to Land Timberwolves Star in Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Golden State Warriors' season came to an unfortunate end at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Months of seemingly do-or-die games for the Warriors finally took their toll when Stephen Curry injured his hamstring in Game 1 after a quick turnaround from the prior series against the Houston Rockets.

At one point in the season, the Warriors fell as low as the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. Desperate to make a move, General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade that sent Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a top-10 protected first-round pick to the Miami Heat as part of a five-team trade for Jimmy Butler.

Golden State Warriors favored to land Timberwolves star
The Warriors had to make up for lost time with Butler and went on a 23-7 run with him in the lineup. Even before the injury to Curry, Golden State's weaknesses were on full display, particularly their lack of height.

The Warriors will likely look to address those needs in the offseason. Jonathan Kuminga is one of their best and most likely avenues to do so. As a result, the Warriors are favored to land the Minnesota Timberwolves' big man, Naz Reid, according to Bovada Sportsbook.
Reid averaged 14.2 points per game after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award in the 2023-24 season. The Warriors are +175 favorites to land Reid, an implied probability of 36.36%. The Brooklyn Nets are close behind at +220 and the Charlotte Hornets are +285.
Reid would be a good fit in the Warriors' lineup. While he won't have a player like Rudy Gobert anchoring the spot next to or behind him, his skillset, toughness and playoff experience is precisely what the Warriors need.

The Warriors are likely going to go all-in next season, as Curry would turn 38 years old in March of next year. It's also worth noting that, as of writing, Head Coach Steve Kerr isn't under contract beyond next season.

Rudy Gobert Shares Cryptic Three-Word Message About His Timberwolves Future
Rudy Gobert Shares Cryptic Three-Word Message About His Timberwolves Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves were close to reaching the NBA Finals for their second-straight season, only to fall to the top team in the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Advertisement Due to another failed attempt, offseason moves seem likely, despite how much some fans might want to see the team's core players remain in place for a championship push. Last season saw the addition of Julius Randle via trade to the starting lineup, replacing Karl Anthony-Towns after many seasons. Randle played a key role as the former All-Star slid right into the frontcourt alongside big man Rudy Gobert. Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert (27).Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images Gobert, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, spent nine seasons with the Utah Jazz before coming to Minnesota. He appeared in 72 games in the past season, averaging 12 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. Advertisement In the team's Game 5 against the Thunder, he finished with just a field goal and five boards in 19 minutes on the hardwood. The game was a 30-point blowout, and his numbers weren't the inspiring sort of performance necessary to help stave off elimination. On Friday, he shared a message with fans amid his uncertain future with the Timberwolves. "To be continued...," was all Gobert wrote in his X message, which also included a photo of him huddled with teammates on the court and praying hands, wolf, and championship trophy emojis. As mentioned, the team could make significant changes to the roster. There's ongoing Kevin Durant trade talks, with a deal expected near the NBA Draft. The Timberwolves are among the select teams that could pull off a big deal for KD. Advertisement As trade rumors swirl, ESPN's Dave McMenamin speculated that a deal could include Gobert going to the Phoenix Suns to make salaries work. The team's other option is Randle, who they would probably prefer to keep with Durant and Anthony Edwards. Last year, ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Gobert declined his $46.6 million player option and signed a contract extension to remain with the Timberwolves through the 2027-28 season. His recent message could suggest he believes he'll be a part of the team next season. However, adding a superstar of Durant's caliber would unite KD with Ant-Man, giving the team two of the league's best scorers, capable of taking over games. Fans probably wouldn't mind seeing that duo contending with the rest of the league's best. Gobert will likely learn what his future is with Minnesota in the next several weeks, as the team decides upon the best personnel to further contend for a championship. Stephen A. Smith's Kevin Durant-Heat fit comes with Timberwolves warning
The post Stephen A. Smith's Kevin Durant-Heat fit comes with Timberwolves warning appeared first on ClutchPoints. Although the NBA Finals continue to move forward, trade rumors are also beginning to heat up around the league. Recent reports suggest that Kevin Durant could be traded soon. Teams such as the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves have been mentioned as possible suitors for the Phoenix Suns star. Which potential landing destination does Stephen A. Smith of ESPN believe is the best fit for Durant? Advertisement 'Well, I think the team that desperately needs him more than any of them is the Miami Heat,' Smith said before Game 4 of the NBA Finals. 'They really don't have anything, they need a star. They need somebody that's a number one option on the offensive side of the ball… That's what Kevin Durant is.' The Heat make sense as a trade suitor for Durant. With that said, Smith believes the Timberwolves would instantly become a true championship contender by acquiring the 36-year-old. 'But if you're talking about a team that automatically elevates the championship stature, that's gonna be the Minnesota Timberwolves,' Smith added. 'You give Anthony Edwards Kevin Durant to defer to when he wants to? Look the h*ll out.' Smith later said Durant and Edwards would be a 'championship-caliber duo.' Advertisement Nothing is necessarily guaranteed as of this story's writing. A trade does seem likely to come to fruition, though. In addition to the aforementioned three suitors, the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs have also been listed as possibilities. Durant is still one of the best pure scorers in the entire NBA. He would turn many fringe contenders into true threats, such as the Heat. Meanwhile, a team like the Timberwolves — that has reached the Western Conference Finals in back-to-back seasons — would likely emerge as a realistic NBA Finals contender with Durant on the roster. The NBA Finals have been exciting up to this point, but the Kevin Durant trade situation is capturing plenty of attention as well. Rudy Gobert Addresses Concerning Details on Breakup With Pregnant Girlfriend
Facing backlash for his alleged breakup with his pregnant girlfriend, Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert attempted to clear the air just hours after news broke. According to a TMZ report on May 16, Gobert kicked his girlfriend, Julia Bonilla, the mother of his one-year-old son, out of his home in April after learning that a second baby was on the way. Advertisement Bonilla addressed the report in a lengthy Instagram story post, saying, 'one of the most painful times in my life.' 'I considered Rudy the love of my life. I left everything for him. I gave him a child and poured my heart into our relationship,' she wrote, getting ahead of any assumption that she had cheated. 'I NEVER EVER been unfaithful to the father of my children,' she added. Gobert addressed the report himself a few hours later and redefined his relationship with Bonilla. Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert (27)Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images "A lot of inaccurate information out there," Gobert wrote on his Instagram story on May 16. "Julia and I are currently in the painful process of redefining our co-parenting relationship. Being a father is one of the most profound and meaningful experience i will get to live. It is one of my most important life purposes and will be so forever. "I'm fully committed to keep supporting the well-being of all the people that I care about," Gobert added. "I'm asking everyone to please refrain from speculating and to respect our privacy in these difficult times." Advertisement TMZ reported that sources said Bonilla hoped to move back to her home country of France, but Gobert wants her and their son, Romeo, to stay so they can "figure out child custody" after the Wolves' season concludes.
