Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe granted Freedom of the City
Howe masterminded the club's first domestic trophy win for 70 years in March when the Magpies lifted the Carabao Cup, and since then has steered the club to Champions League qualification.
Some 300,000 fans lined the streets of Newcastle to watch the players parade the cup through the city centre.
Days after the cup win, council leader Karen Kilgour put the wheels in motion for Howe to join Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn in gaining the freedom.
That nomination was backed at a meeting of Newcastle City Council on Wednesday.
The citation said: 'Eddie Howe's achievements during his time at Newcastle United are nothing short of extraordinary.
'Newcastle United is part of the fabric of our city with the fortunes of the club playing a huge part in the lives of supporters in Newcastle and across the world.
'Generations of supporters have never seen their beloved club lift a domestic trophy, and under his leadership we all now have treasured memories of a truly unforgettable day.'

Ms Kilgour, a lifelong supporter and a season ticket holder at St James' Park, said: 'Eddie Howe will forever be a hero to Newcastle United supporters for his achievements during his time at the club so far, and I'm thrilled members recognised the significance of his contribution to our city by approving to bestow upon him the Honorary Freedom of Newcastle.
'That special day at Wembley gifted Geordies something they hadn't seen in 70 years, domestic trophy success.
'For a city that lives and breathes sport with a football club around which so many lives revolve, the wait to see black and white shirts lift a trophy at the home of football had long felt it would go on forever.
'Since day one, Eddie brought hope, belief and ambition back to the club and its fans around the world, myself included.
'What it meant was clear to see from the celebrations around London and outside St James' Park on March 16, and was projected to the world during the unforgettable parade through our city which brought hundreds and thousands of happy fans together to celebrate with their cup-winning heroes.
'More than being the man who brought silverware back to Tyneside, Eddie is a fantastic ambassador for our city.
'He is passionate yet calm, inspiring and polite, and handles himself with grace in the face of both success and defeat.'
A date will be set for Howe to receive the Freedom of the City at a special event.
The highest honour the city can bestow, Freedom of the City means Howe will have his name inscribed in the wall of the Banqueting Hall at the Civic Centre, alongside the names of other recipients.

Final Mbeumo bid sumitted Manchester United have made one last attempt to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. An initial bid of £55m, comprised of £45m up front and £10m in add-ons, was rejected by the Bees, so United have upped their offer. They have now offered £55m plus £5m in add-ons for the Cameroon international, who banged in 20 Premier League goals last season. The offer appears to match Brentford's stated £60m valuation for Mbeumo. It would appear the final stumbling block in the move, given that the 25-year-old forward is keen to move to Old Trafford and has already agreed personal terms of around £200,000-a-week over a five-year contract with an option for an extra year. Gyokeres drops transfer hint Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Manchester United, due to his relationship with his old Sporting boss Amorim, and he has now ruled out on summer transfer. When asked about moving back to Sweden, the 27-year-old striker told Swedish Vogue: 'After living in a warm country, it would be difficult." Gyokeres is understood to be available for £60m from Sporting this summer, but Arsenal are considered to be front-runners, because they can offer Champions League football. However, the Gunners are still considering RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, so Gyokeres' move to north London is far from certain. Hojlund's future on hold Inter Milan are waiting to get their new manager in place before deciding on a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund. Inter boss Simone Inzaghi left the Italian giants to join Al-Hilal after their defeat in the Champions League final and his replacement isn't through the door yet. Cristian Chivu is poised to leave Parma to take over from Inzaghi and he will be given a say over a potential move for Hojlund. The Danish international has a good reputation in Serie A following his spell at Atalanta and could be offered a way out of Old Trafford. 'She obviously got injured with England at the back end of the season, and I'm happy she got selected to represent England going into another Euros. 'I've spoken to her briefly yesterday, I know she's focused on training and trying to get her body right for the tournament. 'The family are very much happy. Both of us representing our country, they're proud.' James has some competition if he wants to make the right-back position his own for next summer's World Cup, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker also in contention. The 25-year-old has had an excellent campaign for Chelsea, leading them to Europa Conference League glory and Champions League qualification, with the chance of more silverware to come with the start of the Club World Cup later this month.
