World Series of Poker investigating after winner and runner-up at event accused of 'chip dumping'

Yahooa day ago

The World Series of Poker is investigating after the winner and runner-up of a Millionaire Maker event have been accused of collusion. The announcement came after the completion of a $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas, which finished on Wednesday night.
At the final table of the event, which began on June 21, James Carroll held a 9-1 chip lead over Jesse Yaginuma. But Yaginuma pulled off a comeback to win the event, earning the first-place prize of $1.26 million. Carroll earned $1 million as the runner-up.

However, in the wake of the matchup, Yaginuma and Carroll have been accused of engaging in "chip dumping," with viewers speculating that Carroll was intentionally losing hands to increase Yaginuma's stack as part of a prearranged agreement. Throughout the comeback, Yaginuma often won hands by raising or re-raising without Carroll contesting, per ESPN.
On Thursday, WSOP released a statement saying that it had opened an investigation.
"Last night, we were made aware of a potential breach of the official WSOP Tournament Rules during heads up play in Event 53," the organization wrote. "At this time, 1st and 2nd place have not been confirmed and neither the prize money nor the bracelet have been officially awarded."
In other poker tournaments, deals between players are allowed. But WSOP official rules state that chip dumping is a form of "collusion," and is considered an "illegal or unethical act." Under WSOP, collusion can result in forfeiture of prize money, ejection from an event, and exclusion from future WSOP events.

Chip dumping is usually done with the intention of splitting prize money. Though the difference between Yaginuma and Carroll's prize money was less significant, there was an additional $1 million on the line as a result of an independent promotion run by online poker service ClubWPT Gold. Yaginuma was eligible for the promotion as a result of a previous win; Carroll was not.
Yaginuma, speaking with Poker.org, denied that he and Carroll had colluded.
If WSOP upholds the win, Yaginuma will be the second person to cash in on the ClubWPT Gold promotion, after Michael Lavin won a similar contest earlier in June. While WSOP has scrubbed posts congratulating Yaginuma's win on social media, ClubWPT Gold's congratulatory post is still up.

72 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.72?

The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 72 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 72 No. 72 currently belongs to offensive lineman Jaylon Thomas, who should be in line to maintain his role as one of the top names on the practice squad who could get called up midseason. Last year, he was waived due to injury but the returned to the roster on the season-ending injured reserve after goining unclaimed. Through the early stages of training camp and OTAs, Thomas should compete for a job in terms of depth at either tackle spot, but no one expects him to start Week 1 when the Texans travel out west to take on the Los Angeles Rams. And since he's only played in one game for Houston on Sundays, it's hard to consider him the G.O.A.T. in No. 72. Best Player: Derek Newton What could have been with the great right tackle? After replacing Eric Winston in 2012, Newton became a stable option in run blocking during the days of the Arian Foster era. He started three straight seasons, helping Houston reach the postseason twice before inking a long-term, five-year, $26.5 million contract ahead of the 2015. Sadly, he'd never live up to the standard of the deal because of injury. On October 24, 2016, Newton needed to be carted off during the first half of Week 7's game against the Denver Broncos with air casts attached to both legs. It was eventually revealed that both patellar tendons were torn, effectively ending his 2016 season. While he tried to come back in 2017, Newtwon was never able to recover physically, thus leading to his release in 2018. Newton's career was cut short due to a horrific injury in Houston, but he still remains one of the team's best right tackles over the last 12 seasons.

Colorado's Julian Lewis receives program legend's approval to wear No. 10

Blessed to be able to wear 10 at CU @KSlash10 🐐 Before Colorado freshman quarterback Julian "JuJu" Lewis has even taken a snap for the Buffaloes, he is already acknowledging the program's legends. Lewis' No. 10 Colorado jersey was recently made available for purchase on Fanatics, with his father, T.C. Lewis, expressing gratitude to head coach Deion Sanders and the football program for allowing his son to continue wearing his number. "Little things like getting your number for kids go a long way," the elder Lewis said on social media. "Thankful for Deion Sanders and the staff at CU for how they've made Julian's transition to college life smooth." While JuJu's jerseys are available for purchase before he has even suited up for a game, he acknowledged legendary Colorado quarterback Kordell Stewart, who also donned No. 10. The dual-threat Stewart threw for 6,481 yards and 33 touchdowns in his time at CU. He also got active in the ground game, rushing for 1,289 yards and 15 touchdowns. His play, along with that of 1994 Heisman Winner Rashaan Salaam, headlined a golden era of Colorado football, which the Buffaloes have yet to live up to since. Stewart responded to Lewis, giving his approval for the five-star freshman to wear No. 10, along with gratitude and props from one quarterback to another. From day one you've been doing your thing. Proud of you and keep doing what you've been doing 10!! Let's SKOOOO 💪🏾🦬💪🏾 Lewis has yet to take the field in an official game for Colorado, but understands the weight of the number he wears. With Stewart setting the standard for what No. 10 means in Boulder, Lewis steps into big shoes and an even larger legacy. As the next quarterback to don the number, Lewis has a lot to live up to, but so far, he is doing everything the right way.
