Deutsche Bank, SeaTown join VinFast's US$510 million private debt: sources
The facility for VinFast, an electric vehicle maker owned by Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, pays high-single digit returns, the people said, who asked not to be identified discussing private matters. Jefferies Financial Group was the sole financial adviser for VinFast and Vingroup for the deal, according to a LinkedIn announcement.
A Vingroup representative confirmed the fundraising, saying it helps support VinFast's business operations. 'The loan has been secured on favourable commercial terms, given the current market conditions,' the representative said, without elaborating on the details of the deal. Meanwhile, spokespeople for Deutsche Bank and SeaTown declined to comment.
VinFast has been tapping the loan market to fund its expansion plans regionally as it looks to compete with other global EV makers. The sector has become highly competitive with deep price cuts that are eating into earnings.
Vingroup founder and chairman, Pham Nhat Vuong, who's also VinFast's chief executive officer, said last year that the company will continue to have his support until he runs 'out of money', Bloomberg News reported.
VinFast is in talks with local Indian lenders for a US$200 million loan, as it looks to expand in the world's third-biggest car market, Bloomberg News reported. It also secured a 1.84 trillion rupiah (S$145 million) syndicated facility in April from Bank Negara Indonesia and Maybank Indonesia to fund its factory development in Indonesia's West Java province. Hamilton, 40 and on a career low run of 13 races without a podium finish but a record nine-times home race winner, lapped a sunny Silverstone with a best effort of one minute 26.892 seconds on a bright but gusty afternoon. It was the first time this season the seven-times world champion has led a practice session, although he was fastest in Chinese sprint qualifying. McLaren's Lando Norris, favourite for his first home triumph on Sunday after winning in Austria last weekend, was 0.023 slower but ahead of championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri in third and 0.150 off the pace. Piastri leads Norris by 15 points after 11 of 24 races with Silverstone marking the season's midpoint. Champions McLaren have a dominant 207 points advantage over Ferrari in the constructors' standings. Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc was fourth with Mercedes's George Russell fifth. New Delhi has proposed retaliatory duties against the US at the World Trade Organisation, saying Washington's 25 per cent tariff on automobiles and some auto parts would affect US$2.89 billion (S$3.68 billion) of India's exports, according to an official notification. 'India reserves the right to suspend concessions or other obligations ... that are substantially equivalent to the adverse effects of the measure to India's trade,' the statement said. According to the notification, the duty collected by the US would amount to US$725 million and New Delhi will impose an 'equivalent amount of duty collected from products originating in the United States'. India did not specify the tariff rate or which goods it would levy duties on. India is trying to clinch a trade deal with Washington before a July 9 deadline set by US President Donald Trump, after which he has threatened to impose a 26 per cent tariff on all imported Indian goods. India has signalled it is ready to slash its high tariff rates for the US but has not conceded on Washington's demands for opening up the agriculture and dairy sectors. REUTERS
