has launched the Pixel 10 series of smartphones – all powered by
Tensor G5
. The company says that the new chip represents the company's most significant upgrade to its custom silicon yet, with a heavy emphasis on powering advanced, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) and delivering major performance gains.
"Our vision for Pixel has always been to create a smartphone that's defined by smart, helpful features," the company stated in its announcement. The Tensor G5, now in its fifth generation, is the core of that strategy, it added.
Tensor G5: Performance and efficiency leap
Built in partnership with
TSMC
on a 3nm process, the Tensor G5 features major architectural improvements. Google claims the new chip delivers a 34% faster CPU on average and a 60% more powerful Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), the component dedicated to machine learning tasks. This upgrade is designed to make the Pixel 10 more responsive in daily use while also being more power-efficient. The chip also integrates new security hardware to enhance device protection.
Gemini Nano for Google AI features
At the heart of the Tensor G5's new capabilities is a close collaboration with Google's DeepMind AI lab. The chip is the first to run the company's newest and most efficient Gemini Nano model directly on the device, without needing to connect to the cloud.

Looks can be deceiving. Because if you look at the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold side by side, you may think that the two Google phones are quite similar. And more so if you take into account the pricing, which remains unchanged for the Pixel Fold this year. Yes, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is launching at Rs 1,72,999, which is the same as that of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold launched last is that the case? Is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold just a minor bump over its predecessor? Not really, if you go beyond the looks. Despite identical shells and contours and the same price, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a significant step up from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. And not just because it sticks to last year's price. It's because, at the same cost, it delivers a lot more value — the kind Google didn't even highlight properly on stage. From what we can gather on the basis of its feature set and specifications, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold brings significant improvements that make it a much better package overall.A stronger hinge with real durability gainsFirstly, the very thing that makes a foldable possible — the hinge. Durability is the number one concern for buyers, and here the Pixel 10 Pro Fold takes a big leap. It features what Google calls a gear-less hinge. In theory, it is twice as strong and durable as the hinge on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. But the durability boost doesn't end there. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is also the first foldable to come with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Water resistance is something we've come to expect, but dust resistance has been a challenge for foldables until now. With this, Google seems to have cracked it. The phone also comes in two colours — Jade and Moonstone — while staying as slim and sleek as last year's model, though in India only Moonstone is going to be sold. The only trade-off is the weight: at 257 grams, it's going to feel heavier in the hand, especially when other foldables are starting to drop closer to 220 grams. Still, when you look at the hinge, dust and water resistance, and overall build, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is clearly a more robust product, even if it looks very displays, inside and outMoving to the display, again at the first glance, things may appear similar. But they aren't. The outer screen now measures a slightly larger 6.4 inches, while the inner screen remains at 8 inches. Both are OLED panels, but brightness is where the new phone really stands out. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold already had bright displays, but the Pixel 10 Pro Fold pushes peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. More importantly, it improves HDR brightness — 2,000 nits on the cover screen and 1,800 nits on the inner display, compared to 1,800 nits and 1,600 nits, respectively, on the 9 Pro Fold. This difference should be most noticeable when watching HDR content or using the phone outdoors on bright, sunny days. Simply put, the new Fold is always going to look brighter and clearer than the old battery and software take the biggest leapadvertisementThe biggest leap, though, comes with hardware and software. Pixel phones have always excelled in cameras and AI features, but aren't quite known for their performance and battery life. Google seems to be taking this seriously with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It packs a larger 5015mAh battery (around 400mAh more than the 9 Pro Fold), supports faster 30W wired charging, and now adds 15W Qi2 wireless charging with magnetic support, similar to Apple's MagSafe. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the new Tensor G5 chip built by TSMC on a 3nm node, which should deliver better performance and efficiency compared to the Samsung-made chips of earlier the software side, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold debuts with Android 16 out of the box and promises seven years of software updates. It also gets a suite of exclusive AI tools not found on the 9 Pro Fold, including Magic Cues, real-time Live Translate during calls, and conversational photo editing, among others. These are not gimmicks, but practical features designed to improve everyday are a strong point for PixelsFinally, there's the camera. While the hardware setup looks similar to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google hasn't confirmed whether the sensors are new or not. What is clear, though, is that the Tensor G5 brings an improved ISP (image signal processor), along with new photo and editing features. Given Pixel's track record in computational photography, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold should comfortably edge past its predecessor in camera performance the Pixel 10 Pro Fold worth it?All things considered, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold looks like a significant upgrade over the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The fact that Google has delivered a stronger hinge, dust and water resistance, brighter displays, a bigger battery, faster charging, new AI features, and Android 16 right from launch — all while keeping the price unchanged — makes it hard to argue against the value on offer here. However, having said that, this is an expensive phone and, like with any other expensive phone, the value is in the eye of the beholder. But if you opt to choose it, do know that on the surface, it may look the same as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but under the skin, this is a much better phone.- Ends
