Gwinnett shootout leaves 17-year-old dead, 2 more teens injured
Andrew Gatlin died from his injuries after being shot on Pirkle Road around midnight, according to police.
Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson learned two other juveniles were wounded in the incident and taken to a children's hospital in Atlanta, where they are expected to recover.

Daniel Simonca, who has lived in the neighborhood for 35 years, said he was getting ready for bed when he heard the gunshots.
'I heard shots like an automatic weapon, and a scream, a terrifying scream,' Simonca said. 'It's scary because, you know, I got two daughters.'
Gwinnett County police say at least five teenagers met on Pirkle Road for unknown reasons when there was a fight that led to a shootout. A victim collapsed on a driveway, and a bullet went through a neighbor's vehicle.
Two juveniles have been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm.

Simonca said the area is a popular hangout spot where young people often gather. He questioned how teenagers obtained firearms.
'What was the reason they killed each other?' he asked. 'When somebody shoots like that, I mean, in all directions, it could have come through my window.'
The deadly shooting comes as Gwinnett County police prepare to ramp up a comprehensive summer safety initiative designed to increase police visibility and reduce crime. The program includes daily crime suppression operations and Saturday morning community walks with police chiefs.
Gatlin's family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral expenses.

Emergency workers later found the pair drowned and pulled them from the river. In an interview with CTV News, Heather Dodds, the children's stepmother, said that Kayden and Joyclyn had both been warned to avoid the water as Jocelyn didn't know how to swim and her brother didn't have much experience. 'Unfortunately, kids are very curious and sometimes, they don't always listen,' Dodds told the outlet. Dodds says that they recently moved to Dryden and were out exploring the area near their new home. At some point that day, Kayden and Joyclyn went near the water and Joyclyn fell in. Kayden then jumped in to try to save her. Elva Reid, the children's grandmother, told the CBC that her 10-year-old niece, who was with Kayden and Joyclyn, tried extending a branch for them to grab onto, but the current proved too much. "She did everything she [could]. More than a 10-year-old could ever be expected to do," Reid said. Dryden Mayor Jack Harrison previously said that despite the quick reaction from first responders and bystanders, the children 'tragically could not be revived.' 'This tragedy reminds us all of the preciousness of life and the importance of looking out for one another,' Harrison continued. 'Let us come together in support, reflection, and kindness.' Dodds paid tribute to siblings in a GoFundMe she organized to raise money for funeral costs and to help the family. 'Our Daughter Joyclyn was our only girl, our baby girl,' Dodds wrote in the fundraiser description. 'She was the type of girl that could walk into a room and light it up with her smile." Joclyn was also "OBSESSED" with the lovable alien from Lilo & Stitch. "Her favorite saying was 'Ohana means family, and family never gets left behind,' " Dodds continued. "Our world seems a little darker without her bright light.' Meanwhile, her brother had recently turned 15 and was remembered for his love of science and video games. 'Even though was more of an introvert but when he would create friendships, they were bonds that were unbreakable," she added. "But most of all, he loved his little sister.' Following the tragedy, Kayden and Joyclyn's family is launching a foundation in their memory to provide financial assistance to other families for their children's basic swimming lessons. 'We didn't have enough time to give them [Kayden and Joyclyn] the necessary skills. Had they had those skills, maybe we would be looking at a different situation,' Dodds told CTV News. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced baby Arham's arrival Monday. Tisch said New York City Mayor Eric Adams joined Islam's widow, Jamila Akhter, at Mount Sinai Hospital on Sunday night after she went into labor. "Out of tragedy, a new life has entered this world," Tisch said. "Arham joins his two big brothers, Ahyan and Azhaan. "Together, they will carry forward their father's legacy of service and courage -- a legacy the NYPD will guard and uphold with the same devotion Didar gave to this city. Islam was the first to be struck inside the lobby, where the suspect shot several other people before heading to the elevator. On the 33rd floor, the suspect shot another person and then himself. Islam, 36, was a three-and-a-half-year veteran of the department and an immigrant from Bangladesh. During his funeral at a Bronx mosque three days later, New York's police commissioner promoted Islam to detective, as thousands of officers and mourners lined the streets. Since the deadly shooting, two online fundraisers on behalf of Islam's family have raised nearly $500,000 to help care for Islam's wife and three sons. A GoFundMe has raised nearly $80,000, while another fundraiser by several law enforcement and NYPD organizations has received more than $416,000. "I know how special Arham's birth is for this family that is still dealing with heartbreak after losing their hero," Adams said in a post on X. "Rest in peace, Det. Islam. Your legacy lives on in your beautiful family."
