Man (50s) dies after fatal incident at residence in Co Dublin
A man in his 50s died following an incident in Balgaddy, Co Dublin, on Wednesday night.
The man was injured in the incident at a residence in Foxdene Drive, Balgaddy, Co Dublin, shortly after 11pm yesterday.

He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, and the local coroner has been informed.
The scene remains preserved on Thursday morning for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The investigation is being led by a senior investigating officer at Lucan Garda Station, and gardaí are investigating all circumstances around the man's death.
The force have appealed to anyone who was in the vicinity of Foxdene Drive between 11pm and 12am and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.
Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash cam, and were in the area at the time are asked to make the footage available to investigating gardaí.

A jury has heard that a murder accused was recorded calling his friend a "supergrass" and a "rat", during an exchange in which the defendant also told his alleged victim: "I'll stab you straight into your neck." Det Gda Shane Gallagher on Thursday told prosecution counsel Bernard Condon SC that he spent 14 hours listening to a recording of a conversation between the accused and deceased. The audio recording was made by a neighbour of Mr Lawlor's at 9.38pm, minutes before the second fight between Mr Lawlor and Mr Ryan. Man who raped teenage girl (17) sentenced to over eight years in prison
A man who raped a 17-year-old girl has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison. The Central Criminal Court heard that that Jibola Moses Akanni (27) of St Laurence Drive, Drogheda, Co Louth, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault at an apartment on Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1, on February 15th, 2018. Advertisement He has 28 previous convictions from both Ireland and the UK relating to road traffic matters, as well as convictions for theft, public order and handling stolen property. Passing sentence on Thursday, Mr Justice David Keane commended the injured party in this case in the manner in which she conducted herself through the trial and wished her well for the future. Judge Keane said the aggravating factors in this case were the extended nature of the ordeal while the injured party was barely conscious, the disparity in the age of both parties and that she was an intoxicated and vulnerable person at the time. The judge set a headline sentence of nine years for each of the rape charges and four years for the sexual assault charge. Advertisement The judge said that a limited amount of mitigation can be granted for Akanni's cooperation with the gardaí, and with regard to his previous conviction, 'the best that can be said is that they are not for this type of offending.' He stated that 'no credit can be given for a guilty plea, as none was forthcoming, and he does not accept the jury's verdict, nor has remorse been shown.' Judge Keane noted that the probation report placed Akanni at high risk of sexual or violent reoffending. He accepted letters handed to the court by Akanni's parents, who spoke of his good and finer qualities. Judge Keane sentenced Akanni to eight-and-a-half years on each of the two rape counts and three-and-a-half years for the charge of sexual assault all of which are to run concurrently and backdated to November when he went into custody. She did not want to ruin the night for her friends and told them to go to the concert and that she would wait in the apartment. The injured party was upset that she could not get into the venue, and Akanni held a bottle of alcohol to her lips and told her to drink. The injured party said she was tired and was going to go to sleep. She complained that she was lightheaded, and again Akanni held the bottle to her lips, and he then turned off the lights in the bedroom where she was. Gda Cashel said that Akanni then asked her what she had done sexually and if she had had sex with her boyfriend, to which she said 'no' and stated that she was 'only 17'. Mr O'Loughlin said Akanni came to Ireland when he was two years old and is now aged 27. Counsel said there was no violence or threats made; only the act itself.

Jury finds man (20s) accused of three-in-a-bed sex assault not guilty
A man accused of a three-in-a bed sex assault was found not guilty by a jury Thursday. The man, in his 20s, had denied one count of sexually assaulting a woman who invited him back to her apartment and allowed him to go to sleep alongside her and one of her female friends in her bed after they met in a pub on a night out. Advertisement The three parties were studying in Limerick at the time, the man's three-day trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court heard in front of a jury of eight women and four men. The man told gardaí he was 'shocked' when they put the allegation to him after his arrest following the alleged assault, five years ago. The woman alleged the man used one of her hands to masturbate him while she was asleep next to him and another woman in a shared student apartment. Earlier on the night, the two women went to a pub together and met the man and all three went back to the alleged victim's home in the early hours of February 15th, 2020. Advertisement The alleged injured party said she cooked them a meal and the three of them slept beside one another in her 'double bed'. The woman told the court that on the night she warned the man she would 'hit' him 'in the balls' if he tried anything of a sexual nature with her, after he had sought a kiss from her in the bed. The man, in Garda interviews, admitted asking the woman 'in a jovial way' for a kiss. He maintained he had not pursued it after she turned him down. The accused refuted the woman's claims that she had told him she would hit him in his testicles if he tried anything of a sexual nature with her. Advertisement 'This didn't happen. Not once do I remember her threatening this or saying this to me,' the man told gardaí. The man told gardaí he and the two women were 'cuddling' in the bed, and 'singing songs' and 'chatting' before falling asleep together in the bed. The man was positioned lying between the two women with his arms around them, and they were turned into him before they all fell asleep. The man denied having any sexual contact with the alleged victim, telling gardaí 'absolutely not' when asked if he had removed his underwear while he was in the bed with both women. Advertisement When gardaí put to the accused — the woman's claims that he used one of her hands to masturbate him in the bed — he replied: 'I totally deny it, it didn't happen at all.' The man said he felt 'horrendous' at the allegation: 'I absolutely deny that. I'm shocked to hear that.' The man said he accepted that while he may have told the other woman that he fancied the alleged victim, he maintained he did not sexually assault her. The man told gardaí he consensually kissed the alleged victim's friend in the bed after the alleged victim had briefly left the room during the night. Advertisement The alleged victim's female friend who was in the bed on the night told the trial that she and the accused did share a kiss in the bed, and that it was '100 per cent mutual'. The investigating garda Ryan Hill agreed with the accused's barrister, Amy Nix BL, that the accused 'had no previous convictions', that he was from 'a decent, upstanding, hard-working family,' that he was 'supported' in court by his family, and that he is in gainful employment. Garda Hill agreed with Ms Nix that despite having the right to remain silent during Garda interviews after his arrest, the man 'cooperated at all times with the Garda investigation and he answered all your questions'. The alleged victim told the trial that after she and her friend invited the accused back to her apartment, she cooked them a meal and they all went to sleep in her 'double bed'. The alleged victim said three-in-a-bed scene was not unusual at the time in the college environment, as students were 'going in and out of apartments all the time and it was normal for people to crash and sleep wherever they could get a bed'. The alleged victim told prosecuting barrister John O'Sullivan that she did not invite sexual contact nor give the man the impression she was interested in any type of sexual contact on the night. In fact, she said, she warned him against it. She agreed that she and her friend were positioned on either side of the accused in the bed on the night. She said she warned the accused she would defend herself physically if he tried anything of a sexual nature, after he had looked for a kiss from her. 'That was me setting the boundary and the tone that I was only there to sleep,' she told the court. She agreed that after alleging the man had become 'touchy feely' and had looked for a kiss from her, she left the room to take a phone call and returned to the bed and eventually fell asleep next to the man with his arm underneath her. Read More She said she 'froze' and went into another bedroom that had been left vacant by another student. Two weeks later the alleged victim made a statement of criminal complaint of alleged sexual assault. Another friend of the alleged victim told the trial that the alleged injured party told her that the accused 'put his hands in her trousers and was touching himself and giving himself a hand job.' After deliberating for one hour and 38 minutes Thursday, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding the man 'not guilty'.
