Uncertainty looms despite Hamas readiness to resume ceasefire talks
Islamic group Hamas has announced its readiness to "immediately begin a round of indirect negotiations" with Israel for a ceasefire, amid stalled talks between the two sides.
A statement by Hamas released on Monday also says that it welcomes ongoing Qatari and Egyptian efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
But as Israel and Hamas remain worlds apart, it remains to be seen whether the negotiations will take place.
The United States has reportedly proposed a 60-day truce in exchange for Hamas releasing 10 hostages on two occasions, and said that Israel has accepted the plan.
Hamas however is said to have proposed releasing 10 living hostages on three occasions, while demanding a wider withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, Israel is continuing intensive attacks in Gaza.
Footage taken at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza, on Sunday shows injured children being brought one after another to the facility.
The death toll continues to rise with local health authorities announcing that 37 people had died in the past 24 hours.

Armed anti-junta groups in Myanmar extend ceasefire to June 30
Armed ethnic minority groups in Myanmar have announced the extension of a temporary ceasefire. They said the truce will be continued until June 30 to prioritize earthquake recovery efforts. The move comes after a similar announcement from the ruling military days ago. Both sides declared a temporary ceasefire days after a major earthquake rocked central Myanmar in March. The military says the quake has left more than 3,700 people dead and over 5,000 injured. Three armed ethnic minority groups including the Ta'ang National Liberation Army, or TNLA, said on Monday that they would extend the ceasefire. The announcement cited ongoing rescue and clearance operations. Heavy rainfall has caused more damage including collapsed structures. US-backed group cancels food aid distribution in Gaza on Wednesday
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has said it would not distribute food aid to people in the enclave on Wednesday, as attacks by Israeli forces continue there. The private-sector foundation has provided food since May 27. But local authorities say Israeli troops have been repeatedly opening fire on residents waiting for aid, causing deaths and injuries. The foundation said on Tuesday that distribution centers would be closed on Wednesday for maintenance work, such as "improving efficiency." It added that operations would resume on Thursday. The Israeli military said roads leading to the sites would be blocked on Wednesday. The United Nations and other organizations are criticizing the foundation, which is backed by the US. It says food aid distribution should be carried out in a framework led by the UN. UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, said on Tuesday: "It is unacceptable. Civilians are risking, and in several instances, losing their lives, just trying to get food." He also called for an immediate and independent investigation.
