3 Minnesota Vikings players who stood out the most during minicamp
The Minnesota Vikings had a productive minicamp last week after their entire team showed up for the workouts. They are looking to build on a promising 2024 campaign, and some players stepped up to make them believe they can.
We wanted to highlight three players we saw as the winners from the workouts, not saying there were not more. The three players we are mentioning, though, are the ones who not only spoke up, but also are the ones who, with strong enough seasons, could make the difference between a Wild Card season and a Number-One Seed.
Jordan Addison, Wide Receiver
Jordan Addison has proven his rookie season was not a fluke and that the production could be replicated, even without Kirk Cousins. With J.J. McCarthy coming in, it was a new set of questions around him, and all week, the talk and clips centered on how well Addison looked with McCarthy throwing him the ball. On top of all of that, McCarthy mentioned he would be staying in Minnesota with Addison so they could work together more ahead of training camp.
Dallas Turner, Edge Rusher
Dallas Turner was buried behind the likes of Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel on the edges of Minnesota's defense in 2024. So it is understandable that he didn't have many chances, on top of the fact that Brian Flores is very conservative in his approach to using rookies. That being said, Turner was one of the standouts on defense during minicamp last week. If they can add Turner to the rotation of pass rushers, they will be able to keep them all fresh, and we have seen that be a winning formula for Super Bowl teams in the past.
J.J. McCarthy, Quarterback
You thought we wouldn't include the quarterback who answered all the arm strength questions? All jokes aside, seeing McCarthy in action for the first time in 10 months was enough to get him on this piece. He moved well in clips posted to social media, his arm looked good, and while there were some reported interceptions, there will be growing pains. McCarthy will be officially named the starter during training camp but for now just enjoy him being back on the field.

Steelers sign GM Omar Khan to 3-year extension after offseason that included signing Aaron Rodgers
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed general manager Omar Khan to a three-year extension after an offseason that saw the team bring in quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers announced the deal Thursday that will keep Khan with Pittsburgh through the 2028 season. He was hired as the team's GM in 2022. 'Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL draft, strategic trades, and free agency,' Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement. 'We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.' Khan and coach Mike Tomlin are structuring their offense around Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP who's returning for a 21st season. The 41-year-old Rodgers signed a one-year deal after a season in which Justin Fields and Russell Wilson combined to lead the Steelers to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth. To bolster the receiver spot, Pittsburgh acquired two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf from Seattle. The Steelers quickly signed him to a five-year deal to bring some stability at the position. Earlier this week, the team acquired All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Miami Dolphins for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. The next order of business for Pittsburgh could be working out a new deal with star linebacker T.J. Watt. The four-time All-Pro and 2021 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is getting ready to enter the final season of the four-year extension he signed in September 2021. In April, Pittsburgh will host the NFL draft. The Steelers are scheduled to have a dozen selections to reshape their roster. A priority figures to be in finding a long-term solution at QB. 'I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the city of Pittsburgh and our great fans,' said Khan, who's in his 25th season with the Steelers. ___

Steelers reward GM Omar Khan with contract extension after star-studded offseason
Signing Aaron Rodgers has so far yielded two very different results for his last two teams' general managers. After a busy offseason, Steelers GM Omar Khan received a new three-year contract extension Thursday. Time will tell how Khan's moves turn out, but now-former Jets GM Joe Douglas was fired midway through last season with the same quarterback Pittsburgh currently has at the helm. 5 Steelers general manager Omar Khan received a new contract Thursday. Bill Kostroun/New York Post While Rodgers' performance will determine much of the Steelers' outlook, Khan's other moves were some big-time swings, too. Earlier this week, Pittsburgh acquired seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a seventh-round pick for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a fifth-round pick. The Steelers also parted ways with wide receiver George Pickens in a May trade with the Cowboys, and, in a separate deal, acquired DK Metcalf from the Seahawks at the same position. 5 Aaron Rodgers is on a one-year. $13.65 million contract for this season with Pittsburgh. 'We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.' Khan was hired as general manager in 2022 but is in his 25th season with the franchise, as he previously served as the team's vice president of football and business operations. 'I would like to thank Art Rooney II for his support,' Khan said. 'I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the City of Pittsburgh and our great fans.' 5 DK Metcalf is expected to be Aaron Rodgers' top receiving option this season. AP 5 Head coach Mike Tomlin has been with the Steelers since the 2007 season. AP Khan and the Steelers are coming off a 10-7 season in which they were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. The Steelers last won a playoff game during the 2016-17 season despite five more appearances since that campaign. The franchise will hope the 41-year-old Rodgers can pave the way for a successful year, as the roster around him is mostly strong. Rodgers went 5-12 as the starter in his lone full season with the Jets in 2024-25.

Patriots Super Bowl legend inducted into second Hall of Fame
New England Patriots legend Rodney Harrison can now say he belongs in two separate Hall of Fames. The Patriots inducted the two-time Super Bowl champion into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2019. On social media, the Los Angeles Chargers revealed they will be inducting Harrison into the Chargers Hall of Fame as well in a halftime ceremony slated for Thursday, October 23. Harrison played 15 years in the NFL, including nine with the Chargers. He appeared in 123 games and started in 97. He had 760 combined tackles and 21.5 sacks throughout those nine seasons. He eventually landed with the Patriots as a free agent in 2003 and instantly became one of the core leaders of the defense under coach Bill Belichick. Overall, Harrison had 1,206 combined tackles and 30.5 sacks throughout 15 seasons. "Rodney personified an era of Chargers football defined by physicality, emotion, relentless effort, toughness and grit," said President of Football Operations John Spanos, via "For nearly a decade, he gave everything he had to the Chargers, establishing a standard of accountability and setting the bar for competitive greatness. Some would argue that Harrison's career is worthy of a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was one of the most physical and dominant safeties of his era. The Patriots named him to their All-2000s Team and All-Dynasty Team. Both are worthy honors for one of the best defensive backs to ever wear a Patriots uniform. The Chargers obviously felt the same way and made him the 36th player in franchise history to be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
