Phasmophobia's next major update drops next month and here's what's in store
Hold onto your head gear, hunters! Kinetic Games has shared the release date for the next big Phasmophobia update as well as teasing what's in store.
The Phasmophobia Chronicle update rolls out in late June with a huge Journal overhaul, new equipment, a reworked levelling and progression system and more.
Following Phasmophobia 's console launch last October, Kinetic Games let us know what it has planned for its co-op ghost hunting horror title this year in the Phasmophobia 2025 roadmap. First up was the Beasdale Farmhouse rework in March, with the first major update of the year coming in the Chronicle update.
While we already have some idea as to what's in store, today, Kinetic Games has finally shared when the Phasmophobia Chronicle update is rolling out as well as revealing a few more details about the upcoming game changes, that are set to shake things up for old and new ghost hunters alike.
The Phasmophobia Chronicle update is set to release on Tuesday, June 24, and given the past patch rollout times, it'll likely go live at some time between 1am PDT / 4am EDT / 10am BST and 5am PDT / 8am EDT / 1pm BST.
As for what changes the update is bringing to the game, there's quite a few significant ones, scrapping the star-system for photos, introducing new media types, equipment and more. We also got a small update of sorts on the Grafton Farmhouse rework which is coming later this year with 'redesigned layouts, re-themed rooms, and a haunting new attic.'
Here's everything we can expect in the Phasmophobia Chronicle update when it rolls out on Tuesday, June 24.
Phasmophobia Chronicle update
New equipment – Sound Recorder
We already knew the Sound Recorder was on the way, available on three upgrade tiers like the rest of the ghost hunting equipment. That being said, we don't know what the Tier 3 Sound Recorder looks like, as Kinetic Games decided it was better left under wraps when first sharing the news in the roadmap.
You can use the Sound Recorder to record audio including Spirit Box responses, paranormal sounds (like the horrifically spooky ones you get on the Parabolic Mic), as well as audio from ghost events and, presumably, hunts. There's a short clip over on the blog post to demonstrate what it's like in action.
The Tier 1 Sound Recorder is available from Level 4 and when you turn it on, it'll be scanning for supernatural sounds to record nearby. If the range indicator starts going off, move around to get warmer, which will be indicated by the light meter, before the sound disappears.
Journal overhaul
The Journal redesign was also teased earlier this year, so no massive surprises here. As there will be new types of media to capture (not just photos) the Photos tab has been scrapped. Instead, it's been replaced by Media tab which is home to photos, videos, and sound recordings.
You still need to fill it up for a perfect investigation, but you get two pages for photos, two pages for videos, and the fifth page will be used for sound recordings, is my guess. Of course, Kinetic Games could've added an extra page in this section, but we've just got the teasers to work with for now.
Redesigned media system
In its current form, the media system sees players snap pics of ghosts, cursed objects and interactions for the Journal, which are graded on a three-star system to determine how much cash and XP you get for your trouble at the end of the investigation.
The introduction of new media types is one aspect of the redesign but the star-system is being tossed out. Instead, the first capture of any media type will be marked as 'Unique' which is where the big money is. Relatively speaking, of course, as we're out here risking our lives for pics that get a few dollars a piece.
Any subsequent media you capture of the same type will be classified as 'Duplicates' and come with smaller rewards. You'll also get additional tier bonuses for media based on the equipment you used to capture it. All of this goes towards the Reward Multiplyer at the end of an investigation.
For immersion, this new system and equipment is a great touch; trying to convince someone a ghost moved a cup from a photo of it on the floor isn't exactly convincing after all. I'm not sure about the tier bonuses, though, which will presumably be higher for higher tier equipment. While I'm still unlocking higher tier items, I know players in the community often opt for Tier 2 over Tier 3 equipment for certain encounters, so we'll see how that shakes out for everyone.
More teases...
While we've known about the above since Kinetic Games shared its roadmap, the dev team has teased a bit more along with the Phasmophobia Chronicle update release date. We're getting a brand new main menu UI, as well as a reworked levelling and progression system. We don't have any more details on these two features yet, but a future development preview may shed more light on this.
The blog post also tease an image that looks like a van revamp is happening, with a screen visible just behind a VHS player that has a camera sitting on top. Of course, I could be way off the mark, but whatever is being teased could be part of the Phasmophobia Chronicle update based on the blog.

Fallout 76 maintenance schedule for today's update and when you can start
Fallout 76 maintenance is scheduled for today, with the Season 21: Gone Fission starting after the downtime is over. Here's everything you need to know. The new season of Fallout 76, named 'Gone Fission', is set to go live today, introducing a fresh fishing mechanic and more. Today we welcome Fallout 76 Season 21: Gone Fission, as we say goodbye to Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul. If you've not made the transition from a smooth skin to a ghoul just yet, we've got a guide to get you on your way. Hopefully, you've managed to complete the current season pass in time for the Fallout 76 maintenance, as those hard-earned tickets won't be carried over. There's plenty to anticipate this season, which allows us to make the most of our time in Appalachia with a new hobby. Fishing is coming to the wasteland, although you might not want to grill and serve your catches without having any RadAway at hand. The rewards for Fallout 76 Season 21 are in line with the theme, allowing you to display fish and rods, as well as furniture and items adorned with seaweed. The Cannery is also set to drop after today's Fallout 76 maintenance with the full list of available recipes shared on the game's Discord server. We've included the full list below but feel free to scroll past if you're eager to get straight into the details of when today's Fallout 76 maintenance begins and ends. Naturally, there'll be more to come as the season progresses, but that's the entire list for now. Fallout 76 maintenance schedule Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 76 maintenance will commence at 7am PDT / 10am EDT / 3pm BST, today, Tuesday June 3. This aligns with previous instances of Fallout 76 maintenance which typically occur on a Tuesday at this time. As for when the servers will be back up and running, we reckon that Fallout 76 maintenance could last roughly three hours, which is pretty standard. So the game might be back online by 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST. There was an exception with the delayed Milepost Zero downtime, which resulted in a prolonged downtime of six hours. However, nothing from the game's social accounts suggests anything similar occurring with today's Fallout 76 maintenance; at least not yet!
