Panama City church celebrates mortgage debt payoff milestone

Yahoo05-05-2025
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – At United First Methodist Church Panama City the mood was nothing short of joyful.
The congregation and community came together to highlight the final mortgage payment on the church's $3.3 million Community Life Center. A debt that they've had for over a decade.
From youth sports and town meetings to Saturday morning breakfast for the homeless, the center has long served as a hub for outreach and support since the early 2000's.
It proved to be more than just a place to gather for worship; during Hurricane Michael, it served as a center for crisis.

'This building was standing, and all of our operations moved here, and we were able to distribute supplies to those in need in our community, and also hosted meetings for those who are city leaders to come and gather to discuss recovery plans. And during that same time, all of our operations for our offices were here. So, this has really been a vital part of our mission and ministry. And we are grateful to be debt-free today,' senior minister Jeremy Pridgeon said.
On Sunday, the congregation celebrated with a note burning ceremony to mark more than just the end of a mortgage, but the beginning of a new chapter free from debt and full of possibility. For many churchgoers, the community life center has made a tremendous impact on their lives.
'It's welcoming. I've made a lot of friends here, and I like the worship here too. It's been life-changing for me. I've gotten closer to God, and I've been able to play sports here. That's where I first started playing volleyball, so it's just really special to me,' Maren Freeman said.
Church officials say there are additional phases of the Community Life Center they may undertake. However, for now, they are celebrating the 15-year journey that has come to an end.

Nets star Michael Porter Jr dishes on what he's looking for in wife: 'Gotta bring something to the table'

Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. opened up in a recent podcast interview about his love life and what he's looking for in a future wife. The Nets acquired the 2023 NBA champion from the Denver Nuggets in a trade in the offseason for Cam Johnson. He started in 77 games last season, averaging 18.2 points per game in one of the best years of his career. The 27-year-old Indiana native spoke about his romantic endeavors on "One Night with Steiny." "My only thing with a girl, you gotta bring something to the table. I don't mind providing for you, I don't mind doing that," he said. "You can stay at the crib, you can do your thing. You gotta bring something to the table. … Positivity, you gotta help me mentally, you gotta be able to cook or something. You gotta bring something to the table … look, what value are you bringing to my life? That's the way I look at it now. "In a wifey, I don't mind if she's a stay-at-home mom. My mom was a stay-at-home mom but she raised all eight of us kids, she homeschooled us, she cooked for us when my dad was out working, she raised us. You gotta be able to do something. These girls nowadays it's like they just want to live like queens and do absolutely nothing." Luckily for Porter, he's going to be in one of the states that's ranked best for singles. WalletHub ranked New York the second-best state for singles overall in February. New York ranked No. 1 for fun and romance, and No. 2 for dating opportunities. If Porter happens to choose to live in New Jersey while he's with the Nets, the state was ranked 11th overall. It was 15th for fun and romance, and eighth for dating opportunities.

Morgan Stanley Starts Coverage of Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) with an Equal Weight Rating

Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc. (NYSE:ELS) is one of the best residential REITs to buy. On July 15, Morgan Stanley began coverage of ELS with an Equal Weight rating and assigned a price target of $67.5. The firm anticipates year-over-year growth in Core Income from Property Operations for ELS at 5.6% in 2025, 4.5% in 2026, and 4.7% in 2027. The company also maintains a robust track record of shareholder returns, with 19 years of consistent dividend increases. 20 Major Cities with the Highest Home Price Increases Since the Pandemic Morgan Stanley added that ELS is positioned for steady growth, with steady mid-single digit gains from internal operations and moderate external expansion, given tight cap rates on premium manufactured housing assets. Together, these factors are expected to support around 4.5% annual growth in FFO and AFFO per share from 2025 to 2027. Research indicates that manufactured housing REITs are expected to lag the broader REIT sector in FFO growth through 2025 and 2026, following a weak 2024. Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc. (NYSE:ELS) is an American operator of manufactured home communities, RV resorts, and campgrounds in North America, offering a range of housing and recreational options in high-demand locations to meet diverse customer needs. While we acknowledge the potential of ELS as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
