MARA education foundation provides RM1,000 aid to UPSI crash victims' families
MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the aid aimed to ease the burden on the victims' families, most of whom came from modest or underprivileged backgrounds.
'Today, I had the opportunity to represent Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in visiting the victims of the bus crash involving UPSI students at the JRTB and in handing over the assistance.
'So we hope this immediate RM1,000 contribution can help reduce the burden of the families who came today to visit the victims of this truly heartbreaking tragedy,' he said in a Facebook post today.
In the incident that occurred at about 1.10 am on the JRTB near Tasik Banding, Gerik, 15 UPSI students were killed in a crash involving a tour bus and a Perodua Alza.
The bus, carrying 42 UPSI students, was en route from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

Siblings drown in unfenced construction pond site in Ipoh
IPOH: Two siblings were found drowned in a water retention pond located within an unfenced construction site in Lebuh Perindustrian Sin Yong Seng, Taman Chemor Ria, here yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001, which pertains to child negligence and is punishable by a fine of up to RM20,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both. He advised the public to always prioritise children's safety, especially when near high-risk areas such as rivers, ponds, mining pools, or construction sites. "Developers and contractors are also reminded to comply with safety regulations, including installing fencing and warning signs at construction sites to prevent unwanted incidents. "Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector P. Munesuwari, at 016-5921325, or reach out to any nearby police station," he said.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali convicted Mangkok Mawa on his own guilty plea to a charge of causing death by negligence, framed under Section 304A of the Penal Code; and a charge of possessing a firearm without a permit, framed under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960. For the first charge under Section 304A, the accused was fined RM4,000 in default five months' jail, while for the second charge under Section 8(a), he was fined RM2,000 in default three months' imprisonment. He committed the offence at around 10am on July 23 at Kampung Engkeroh Mawang in Tebakang, Serian. Based on the facts of the case, police received a report from the public about a 52-year-old woman who had been shot dead in the village, and arrested Mangkok at about 2.40pm the same day. Seized from him were a shotgun, one spent cartridge, and a box containing nine live cartridges. Investigations revealed the accused was hunting squirrels in an orchard behind his house when he opened fire after mistaking the victim for an animal moving in the bushes. Ex-army veteran fined for submitting false claims
LABUAN (Aug 21): The Labuan Special Corruption Court today fined a former Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veteran RM48,000 after he pleaded guilty to 12 alternative charges of submitting false documents in claims exceeding RM336,000. Fairuzul Fazillah Musa, formerly attached to MAF Labuan, had initially been charged under Section 471, read with Section 468 of the Penal Code. He was accused of using forged documents as genuine in claims for local training and annual honorarium allowances between January 2015 and February 2016. The prosecution later offered 12 alternative charges under Section 471 read with Section 465 of the Penal Code, to which he pleaded guilty. Judge Jason Juga also imposed a fine of RM4,000 on each charge, in default four months' imprisonment, amounting to RM48,000, which was fully settled by the accused. Deputy public prosecutor Joe Randy Juster appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama
