A step closer to enhanced elders' rights
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said it is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year.
Nancy said her ministry plans to submit the draft to the Attorney-General's Chambers by the end of this year.
At the moment, she said, the ministry is engaging in further consultations with industry players and state governments, including those in Sabah and Sarawak.
'What we are doing now is that we need to go back to the industry players, the stakeholders, to talk to them again. And we also have to refer to every state.
'So this is an ongoing thing because the Bill is not just for us in the peninsula. It's also for various states, especially those in the Borneo side,' she told a press conference after launching the Asean + Republic of Korea Conference on Care and Support for Older Persons here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Also present were Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Asean, Lee Jang-keun.

Endometrial Cancer Cases Rising Among Young Women
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- Endometrial (corpus uteri) cancer is now the fifth most common cancer among women in Malaysia, with a prevalence rate of 5.6 per cent. Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Gynae-Oncologist at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City, Dr Andi Anggeriana Andi Asri said the cancer often silent in its early stages, is now increasingly affecting women under 50, including those in their early 30s. 'Abnormal uterine bleeding, either after menopause or irregular bleeding, is the most common symptom of endometrial cancer,' she said in a statement. She also emphasised other signs which include pelvic pain, unexplained weight loss, pain during urination or intercourse, and unusual vaginal discharge. 'These younger women often come for fertility consultations or hormonal imbalance issues, only to discover they have endometrial cancer. This revelation can be devastating, as it often comes when they are planning or have just started their families,' she said. Dr Andi Anggeriana said the trend is concerning as it affects both health and fertility, with obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and hormonal imbalances, especially those linked to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), being potential contributing factors due to elevated estrogen levels that may thicken the uterine lining. She noted that if diagnosed early, endometrial cancer may be treated with fertility-sparing options, depending on the stage and grade of the tumour. 'For women who are diagnosed early, there is a possibility to preserve the uterus and manage the cancer with hormonal therapy,' she said, adding that this approach requires close monitoring and carries a risk of recurrence. For those unable to preserve their fertility, the emotional toll can be significant, as many have not yet started or completed their families, making the diagnosis especially difficult.

The two countries exchange such lists on the first day of January and July as per a 2008 bilateral agreement on consular access to prisoners. KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested the Malaysian Embassy in Italy to immediately assist Dalila Zaidi, a Malaysian citizen stranded in Milan after her passport was stolen. He said the Foreign Ministry has also been alerted to ensure appropriate action is taken to resolve the matter. Anwar was responding to a post by Dalila on X, in which she appealed for help after losing her passport. "Salam PMX @anwaribrahim, my name is Dalila Zaidi and I'm a Malaysian currently stranded in Milan after my passport was stolen in the afternoon yesterday, 30 June 2025 near Santa Sofia station...I truly appreciate your attention to this," she wrote. In her post, Dalila claimed she had attempted to obtain an Emergency Travel Document from the Malaysian Embassy in Rome, but was informed that it was not possible due to the absence of an authorised officer to sign the necessary documents. The Prime Minister will be in Italy for a three-day official visit from July 1 to 3, at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. - BERNAMA
