Women's College World Series live updates: Florida Gators vs. Texas Longhorns
Florida softball begins its 2025 College World Series journey on Thursday at noon with a game against fellow SEC powerhouse No. 7 Texas.
There's some history here as the Longhorns eliminated the Gators a year ago to advance to the championship series. This Gators team has new faces, of course, and won the season series against Texas without starting pitcher Keagan Rothrock. Just as in baseball, winning Game 1 of pool play in the College World Series is crucial. It's double elimination during this stage, and having a loss to give means everything with just a handful of games left.
Florida is a very complete team, but it's the power factor that's going to make the difference. The Gators have more than 100 homers as a team, and freshman phenom Taylor Shumaker is one of the young stars of the sport.
As the first pitch gets underway, settle in and follow along with this live blog as it's updated during the game.

Kayla Harrison fed up with Julianna Peña's trash talk: 'Just poorly done'
Kayla Harrison fed up with Julianna Peña's trash talk: 'Just poorly done' Kayla Harrison has had enough of Julianna Peña. Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Kayla Harrison media day interview UFC 316 co-headliner Kayla Harrison spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters at media day for her women's bantamweight title fight vs. Julianna Peña. MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Kayla Harrison can't wait till she's locked in the octagon with Julianna Peña. Sure, Harrison (18-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) dreams of dethroning Peña (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) at UFC 316, and getting a hold of the UFC women's bantamweight title, but she also just wants to get the pre-fight banter and trash talk over with. Harrison and Peña have gone back and forth over the last few months, with the champion doing most of the talking – which Harrison finds quite bad. "I think hands down this is the most trash talk (I've endured)," Harrison said at the UFC 316 media day on Wednesday. "The talk itself is trashy. I don't know if it's good trash talk, but it's trashy. This is the most I've ever had to endure. Yeah, it's the worst trash talk I've had to endure, it's just poorly done. I'll tell you what. Being a female in a male dominated sport, going to American Top Team, you don't think I hear sh*t all day every day? I walk in the gym, and they're starting to (talk trash). But this was just poorly done. I'm ready to fight. I'm done talking about it." UFC 316 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) takes place Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Peña vs. Harrison serves as the co-main event of the card. Harrison is not interested in going engaging with the pre-fight antics with Peña, nor tearing her down. She does, however, promise she'll be sitting at the top of the women's bantamweight division come Sunday. "I feel nothing. I focus on myself," Harrison said. "I focus on how I carry myself, what I can do. I try not to throw stones from a glass house. Nobody is perfect, we're all doing the best we can, but there's going to be a new face of women's MMA very soon."

Texas A&M has been in contact with Texas transfer outfielder
Texas A&M has been in contact with Texas transfer outfielder This summer is a big one for Texas A&M baseball head coach Michael Earley, who was surprisingly, to some at least, retained last Friday as Athletic Director Trev Alberts made the final decision to retain the young skipper after the Aggies' 30-26 (11-19 SEC) record, which included a shocking series loss to Missouri that ultimately ended the program's postseason hopes. Knowing that several offensive stars on the 2025 roster, including Wyatt Henseler, and, most likely Jace LaViolette will depart the program, Earley will need to replace their production, which will be tough to do, but isn't an impossible task in today's transfer portal age. After the portal opened on Monday, On3's Pete Nakos reported that Earley and his staff have reached out to Texas transfer outfielder Donovan Jordan, who redshirted with the Longhorns during the 2025 season. Here is what Burnt Orange Nation's Wescott Eberts had to say about Jackson's skilset despite not playing last season: "The 6'1, 210-pounder redshirted at Texas during the 2025 season after signing with the previous coaching staff ranked as the No. 429 player nationally and the No. 73 outfielder, according to Perfect Game." "Jordan arrived on the Forty Acres with a strong swing efficiency built on his hip rotation to produce exit velocities in the 86th percentile, but wasn't able to find playing time in a deep outfield for the Longhorns." While Jordan does not represent an immediate upgrade, he is a young player with plenty of power and potetial at the plate. Missouri is the only competition to land Jordan right now, giving the Aggies a leg up when comparing both program's standing. This is just the start of Earley's activity in the transfer portal.
