Johor targets RM42 bil revenue for Visit Johor year 2026
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this target was based on the projected arrival of 12 million tourists over the year.
'According to official data from Tourism Malaysia, the average per capita spending for tourists is RM3,500,' he said during a session at the Johor State Legislative Assembly in Kota Iskandar today.
'If we meet the target of 12 million tourists, the expected revenue, both direct and indirect, will total RM42 billion,' he added.
He was responding to a question from Hasrunizah Hassan (BN-Pulai Sebatang) regarding the tourism revenue and tourist targets for Visit Johor Year 2026.
Onn Hafiz also emphasised that the state government is focusing on attracting domestic tourists and visitors from Singapore.
Last month, he announced an allocation of RM116.35 million to upgrade public facilities, enhance tourism attractions and improve the overall visitor experience in Johor for 2024 and 2025.

SST maintained for industry familiarity and revenue growth says MoF
KUALA LUMPUR: The government believes the Sales and Service Tax (SST) should continue as it is well understood by businesses and the public. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) stated that SST can be improved to boost revenue and deliver quicker fiscal benefits. MoF highlighted that SST has been operational for over 40 years, making it a stable revenue source. Reintroducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would require up to two years for businesses to adjust their systems. The ministry shared this in a parliamentary reply to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera), who inquired about SST's advantages. Expanding SST's scope is expected to raise an additional RM10 billion annually from 2026. MoF noted that both GST and SST have distinct pros and cons. GST applies at multiple stages but includes an input tax credit mechanism. SST, however, is a single-stage tax without input tax credits but allows targeted exemptions. - Bernama

Johor leads data centre investment, 42 projects worth RM164.45b approved as of 2Q
JOHOR BAHRU — Johor has emerged as the nation's leading data centre investment hub with 42 projects worth RM164.45 billion approved as of the second quarter (2Q) this year. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said these projects are expected to create over 6,000 quality job opportunities and contribute 78.6 per cent of the country's operational IT capacity. He also stated that Johor is targeting to house six per cent of Malaysia's data centre capacity by the year 2030. 'In line with this development, the state government aspires to position Johor as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and the nation's digital economy. This will be achieved through the integration of smart technologies in public services, enhancing the competitiveness of industries, and building an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem so that the benefits of technology can be enjoyed by all levels of society,' he said in a Facebook post. He added that the combination of large-scale data centre infrastructure, advances in AI technology, and progressive government policies will further position Johor as a potential regional digital innovation hub. 'This initiative will not only drive economic growth but also improve the quality of life for the people of Johor through high-skilled job opportunities, the development of new industries, and smart solutions to everyday challenges,' he said. In the same post, Onn Hafiz also shared that he met with Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo to discuss the direction of the state's digital development at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur today.
