T20 cricket: Triple Super Over for the very first time, as Netherlands defeat Nepal

Sky News17-06-2025
The Netherlands came through an unprecedented three Super Overs to defeat Nepal in a T20 cricket tri-series match.
It was the first time a triple Super Over had been seen in an international cricket match.
A Super Over occurs when a match ends in a tie after both innings have been completed, with each team being given an extra six balls to pull ahead.
If a Super Over ends in a tie, another Super Over is played until a team emerges as the winner. In general, Super Overs are rare. A match had only ever gone into a second Super Over once before, after India and Afghanistan went to an extra 12 balls last year.
The Dutch posted 152 for seven after their 20 overs and appeared set for victory in Glasgow as Nepal required 16 runs from their final over, but Nandan Yadav scored a boundary on the last ball - leaving both teams with the same number of runs - forcing the first Super Over.
Nepal then made 19 runs, which the Dutch matched thanks to Max O'Dowd hitting a six on the final ball.
During the second Super Over, the Netherlands, batting first, hit 17 runs but Nepal again stayed in the match after Dipendra Singh Airee hit a six on the last ball to force the first instance of a third Super Over.
With Nepal failing to score a single run and with the Dutch needing just one run, Michael Levitt smashed a six to finally seal the win for the Netherlands.
The 2025 Scotland T20 Tri-Nation Series is taking place after the conclusion of the thirteenth round of the 2024-2026 Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-nation One Day International (ODI) tournament contested by the men's national teams of the Netherlands, Nepal and Scotland.
The Netherlands had lost their opening match of the series with Scotland on Monday and now have a rest day.
Nepal are straight back into action against the Scots.

Players 'put their hands up' for World Cup

Ireland head coach Scott Bemand says he has not yet finalised his squad for the Women's Rugby World a comeback win over Scotland last week, Ireland were beaten by Canada in their final warm-up match before the tournament that starts in England in two weeks' after a strong second-half performance against the side ranked number two in the world, Bemand said he was "delighted" that players are still fighting for a place in the final 32-player squad that will be announced on Monday."There's a lot of girls that put their hands up which is really pleasing," Bemand told BBC Sport NI."The girls are actually getting used to performing with that pressure. It's the nature of what we do. In elite sport, there's always a selection. "You're always competing, and I think over the last two years we've certainly got better in that space."Ireland have already lost influential forwards Erin King and Dorothy Wall to injury for the World Cup, while Aoife Wafer did not feature in either warm-up though, is pleased with the depth that has built in his panel."As that second-half showed, we've got more than just a 15 - we've got a squad and people that can come on and make differences to a game," he added."We're going to take stock of it now and then we'll see who is in the melting pot to get to the World Cup." 'We're not peaking yet' Ireland face Japan in their opening World Cup game in Northampton on Sunday, 24 will then have further Pool C games against Spain and reigning champions New Zealand as they look to progress to the knockout having just two warm-up games in the lead up to the tournament, Bemand refuted suggestions that Ireland will not be match sharp for the Japan game in a fortnight's time."I don't think we're undercooked. I think we're right. I think we've come out relatively well physically," said Bemand, who previously worked as an assistant coach with England. "If you look at it, we're about to go into a competition that's six weeks long if we get to the end so we're going to need our group, we're going to need fit and fresh bodies that are ready and prepared to play, so the more you take out yourself now, you've got to use competition to build as well."I've had the benefit of being involved in the last two World Cups and have kind of learned a lot from that. We're not peaking yet, but we certainly will be peaking as we go through the World Cup."

Community Shield buildup to Liverpool v Crystal Palace and more

Update: Date: 2025-08-10T07:22:43.000Z Title: Let's start with that Rangers reaction … Content: Russell Martin has told frustrated Grs fans there is 'no quick fix' after his side dropped another two points with a 1-1 home draw against Dundee – which was secured via a James Tavernier penalty in added time. Martin said: 'Every club I have been at, it's a bit of pain and when you get through that pain, it's so worth it. I don't think I expected anything less coming here, it's not going to be a quick fix. This club has not had success for a long, long time. I've been asked about the supporters' reaction and I just don't have a problem because I understand it.' Read more via the link below. Update: Date: 2025-08-10T07:17:28.000Z Title: Preamble Content: I guess we're now officially back? The Championship season is under way, we've already had a couple of weeks of the EFL and today's Community Shield between Liverpool and Crystal Palace will confirm that we are, indeed, so back. Bristol City's drubbing of Sheffield United and Southampton's late surge to stun Wrexham were the highlights of the second tier stuff yesterday, with attention now turning the other (far more) beleaguered Steel City club. Sheffield Wednesday travel to recently-relegated Leicester later, just glad they have a fixture to play and a team to play it. There's also Scottish Premiership action today and we'll have some reaction to Rangers' second successive league draw under new boss Russell Martin. Celtic go to Aberdeen in the Sunday lunchtime kickoff.
