JPJ officer dies in collision with ice delivery lorry in Temerloh

PETALING JAYA : A female officer from the road transport department (JPJ) was killed after the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a lorry carrying ice at KM137 of the Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan road near Temerloh today.
Temerloh police chief Mazlan Hassan said the 36-year-old victim, who served in the Temerloh JPJ prosecution unit, died at the scene during the 5.16pm incident.
He said preliminary investigations revealed both vehicles were travelling from Temerloh towards Mentakab before the 33-year-old man driving the lorry apparently lost control of his vehicle.
'The lorry nearly veered off to the left, but in an attempt to avoid crashing into the road barrier, it overturned in the middle of the road.
'The victim, who was riding a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle behind the lorry, was unable to avoid the vehicle and crashed into its midsection,' Bernama quoted him as saying.
Mazlan said the woman's body was taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh and the case is being investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 5,744 summonses during its Aidiladha special operations from June 4 to on Tuesday (June 10). Johor JPJ Director Azmil Zainal Adnan said that of the total, 1,264 summonses were issued for not having a Competent Driving Licence (CDL), 1,163 for expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), 1,021 for lacking insurance, and 134 for not possessing a Vocational Licence. "All these summonses were issued after checks were carried out on 45,395 vehicles. Additionally, 83 vehicles were seized, involving 66 motorcycles, nine cars, and eight other types of vehicles," he said in a statement on Tuesday night. He added that summonses were also issued for offences such as queue cutting or overtaking on the left (7), overtaking on a double line (15), and failing to obey red traffic lights (7). "Other offences included using the emergency lane (8), using a mobile phone (9), not wearing a helmet (72), not wearing a seatbelt (51), and other miscellaneous offences (1,993)," he said. Azmil Zainal urged road users and the public to cooperate and adhere to regulations, being tolerant of other users for the safety of themselves and their families. Bus in Gerik crash clearly speeding, say police

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The bus in the Gerik crash that killed 15 university students was clearly speeding based on dashcam footage from a car, say police. Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said investigators have received the footage from the owner of the car, whose statement will be taken soon, Harian Metro reported. 'The recording clearly shows how the bus was speeding. What made matters worse was when a road barrier penetrated the front of the bus after it toppled over. 'That is why passengers seated on the left side of the bus were among those who lost their lives, because the barrier penetrated all the way to the passenger seats. 'We leave it to our investigating officers to go through the recording and take the owner's statement,' said Noor Hisam. He added that the statements of survivors would also be taken, after several of the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students claimed the bus was speeding before the crash. He said the site of the crash was a downhill stretch of a hilly road and that the accident occurred around midnight after some rain. 'Based on my observation, there were no clear road markings and the area is very dark. We're still probing whether the cause of the crash was due to negligence or technical issues.' Noor Hisam also said most of the survivors were found in a drain next to the barrier, while the bodies of most of those killed were still in the bus after the crash. A total of 15 UPSI students died from the crash on the Gerik-Jeli East West Highway, near Tasik Banding. The bus was carrying 42 students, the bus driver and his assistant. A couple, along with their six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, were travelling in a Perodua Alza the bus collided with.

Muda's Amira summoned by cops over Azam Baki rally
In her speech, Muda's Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz had called for greater transparency from the government and not to weaponise the anti-graft agency. PETALING JAYA : Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been summoned to the Dang Wangi police station on June 18 over her involvement in last month's rally demanding the resignation of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki. According to Amira, she will record her statement under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act following an order from the Papar district police in Sabah. 'I have been summoned and investigated in connection with many previous peaceful assemblies,' she said in an X posting today. 'I remain steadfast in the struggle to bring truth and justice. As long as I can, I will continue to move forward with this struggle.' On the night of May 25, some 60 protesters marched to Dataran Merdeka to protest Azam's third-term extension as MACC chief. The participants, who included representatives from NGOs such as rights group Suaram, electoral reform group Bersih and political parties like Muda and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), marched from the Sogo shopping complex just after 8pm.
